Rolli Posted April 1, 2014 Posted April 1, 2014 Just signed up for Lego Fan Weekend in Skærbæk in September Anyone else going there interested in doing a Kaliphlin/GoH collaboration of some kind? Great to meet other members there! Sign-Up is closed now, seems that all spots have been filled within less than 48h.. I'm planning something with Ecclesiastes on the Avalonian-Mitgardian side. Get in touch Quote
qiadris Posted April 2, 2014 Posted April 2, 2014 Sign-Up is closed now, seems that all spots have been filled within less than 48h.. Ouch! I guess I can still go as visitor Saturday/Sunday... (Why is that part of the site in Danish anyway? in fact, why is the site so terrible? o.O) Quote
Gideon Posted April 2, 2014 Posted April 2, 2014 (edited) Sign-Up is closed now, seems that all spots have been filled within less than 48h.. Wow! That's a lot of interest in the event I'm glad I got informed yesterday by a Swebrick friend that the Fan Weekend signup was open as I was travelling and had not checked the forum... 2014 seems to be the year for AFOL events for me btw, as I just signed up for Brickworld Chicago in June as well Right now I'm trying to figure out how much of the workshops on Thursday and the presentations on Friday we should attend or if we should spend those days seeing more of Chicago instead (arriving there on the Wednesday)? Gideon Posted April 2, 2014 Posted April 2, 2014 I'd love to! But that will have to wait until another year... Quote

Hmmm... if enough people are going to Brickworld, I may change my plans and come too. It would be great to meet a bunch of GoH people. Quote
kabel Posted April 2, 2014 Posted April 2, 2014 could you please add it to the thread I just made? Quote

SkaForHire Posted April 2, 2014 Author Posted April 2, 2014 I don't think I could bring a display piece (if there is still room, even.) but I could probably make it to Chicago that weekend, there is a library I have to go to for research in Chicago anyway, I could make it a business/leisure trip. gedren_y Posted April 2, 2014 Posted April 2, 2014 Going to The Newberry, are you? See if they have a copy of Son of the Morning by Linda Howard. I'd find it wonderfully amusing if they do. Quote
SkaForHire Posted April 2, 2014 Author Posted April 2, 2014 You would be correct, I couldn't find a synopsis of the book, but I assume that the Newberry plays a part? Quote
gedren_y Posted April 2, 2014 Posted April 2, 2014 Yeah. I'm not going to tell you how, though. If you want to know, read the book. It is worth the read. I may just dig out my copy tonight. We Kaliphlin are a very well read people. Our personal libraries can be quite extensive. Quote
Hammerhand Posted April 2, 2014 Posted April 2, 2014 (edited) We Kaliphlin are a very well read people. Our personal libraries can be quite extensive. That's only because you just read the books that we Avalonian's write, so you know how to do things. Without our books, you wouldn't know how to do anything. Thus, extensive libraries. Yup. You walked into that one. Edited April 2, 2014 by Hammerhand Quote
Scaevola Posted April 2, 2014 Posted April 2, 2014 Hmmm. Seeing as most Avalonians are elves and elves don't kill trees, I don't see how Avalonians would be major book producers. They could use other materials, but it is not as efficient, and not suited to the Avalonian economy . Quote
Hammerhand Posted April 2, 2014 Posted April 2, 2014 Hmmm. Seeing as most Avalonians are elves and elves don't kill trees, I don't see how Avalonians would be major book producers. They could use other materials, but it is not as efficient, and not suited to the Avalonian economy . Nah, we use parchment. We just have more money to spare due to our advanced knowledge, so we can afford parchment. Any books using paper are simply copies made by Kaliphlinian scribes learning the wonders of Avalonian literature. Quote
TheUtilityBelt Posted April 2, 2014 Posted April 2, 2014 And how did you get that advanced knowledge from? Hmmm? Quote
Scaevola Posted April 2, 2014 Posted April 2, 2014 (edited) Parchment! Your books probably stink of festering animal ! Edited April 2, 2014 by Scaevola Quote
Hammerhand Posted April 3, 2014 Posted April 3, 2014 And how did you get that advanced knowledge from? Hmmm? We've always had it. Evidently, Avalonian's climate is better able to support intelligent life... unlike some places. Parchment! Your books probably stink of festering animal ! They smell quite nice actually. The smell your thinking of is unwashed Kaliphlinian. I should probably stop now. I don't want to fill up the Kaliphlin thread with to many revelations. Quote
TheUtilityBelt Posted April 3, 2014 Posted April 3, 2014 Link to my sig-fig's topic! And you Avalonians have way more animals than us, so in the end, who smells worse? **cue "We are the champions" music** Quote
SkaForHire Posted April 3, 2014 Author Posted April 3, 2014 (edited) Ska, come to Brickworld! I got the OK from the Mrs. So this is a definite possibility. ----- Back to jiving back and forth: Hammerhand: but Avalonia is much younger than Kaliphlin (which is a couple thousand years old, and at one point ruled all of the continent), Avalonia only forming in the last few hundred years, it was a warring people, a people shrouded in mystery and magic. They filled the westlands and the graceful outer isles with story, but they were not well-read people. They had stories and oral histories, but it was we Kaliphlins who brought the common tongue, numerals, and writing to the fledgling civilizations to the west. Granted, some immortal beings such as the elves lived in Avalonia for many millennia, but they were not always keen on sharing their knowledge with the vast human population that ruled the many lands of the west. Kaliphlin have numerous universities, Avalonia has few major centers of learning. It is not a bad thing to be a young people, some say that gives you all more heart, where some of Kaliphlin's oldest blood thinks more callously with their pocket book. Out of the 9 Great Scholars of the Antiquity, only one is not Kaliphlinian. Edited April 3, 2014 by SkaForHire Quote
-Carson Haupt- Posted April 3, 2014 Posted April 3, 2014 Avalonia only forming in the last few hundred years, it was a waring people, a people shrouded in mystery and magic. Yeah, but we can spell warring correctly... Quote
