I'd love to see someone do heavily armoured elves- at least in a more frequent way!

That is what I'm going for [hopefully]! But in a non traditional Elf way, to say the least. I just like the Uruk Hai parts because the torso and legs could easily be used for a Leather Armor type of feel and the heads are interesting, menacing, and have nice coloring.

Oh wow. Every other post is by Behemoth! I'm glad to see your first build though!

...Anyway, i've run out of steam now, although i'm sure i've forgotten a bunch of useful parts that ppl consider essential. If anyone wants to add thier fav/go to parts to the list to help the new members out, i'm sure they would appreciate it!...

I think this needs to be sticky-ed somewhere. This is an incredibly useful list. I've come to learn these truths the hard way, through much Bricklink ordering and then ordering again after realizing I really needed more pieces and more plates! Thanks for putting this together Gabe. I hope it helps some of the new members.

Yup, I'm not really busy today so I'm kind of on a posting frenzy! And thanks! I also know it's not too awesome but it's a start.

I also agree, there should be a stickied topic dedicated to new MOC builders and useful parts for certain builds and such. It definitely helped me but I'll try to get some orders placed by the end of this month for more parts and minifigs. Though, I should take a look around for other people's signature figure and soldiers so I can try to replicate them.

Not sure if the GoH subforum is the best place for another sticked topic with info to new builders, not directly GoH-related. Maybe in the general History forum? Gabe's excellent tutorial should be made available to new builders in some way at least, maybe include a link to that post in the GoH new member guide?

As much as I like that the Kaliphlin thread is very active now, it feels like it's sliding a bit off topic?

So, what is going on in Kaliphlin except for the battle of the Wither Woods? I'm still one-armed but hopefully I will get rid of the plaster a few weeks before LFW in late September, and in that case a part of Barqa will be built for that show :classic:

That could work.

Yeah, we are getting a bit off-topic. I blame Monday!

I'm not too sure as to what has been happening but my concepts are slowly drifting into place each day.

Also who, what, and where are the Drow?

I was actually on vacation with TUB, however a car accident has left us in Idaho for a couple more days. The collab is almost done, (at least my part, not sure about his), and might be up soonish!

Welcome back TUB and Carson! :classic: Bummer about the car accident though. I assume you guys are ok and weren't injured?

Yep, congrats on your first GoH moc Behemoth! First of many we hope!:thumbup:

Ah, i'm glad that the little list i put together is proving helpful, that's very gratifying. :classic: Keep in mind though that i wrote it quickly and without too much reflection, so it's by no means an exhaustive guide. Since it's more of a reference for general castle/landscaping/fantasy building, if it does get stickyed it probably belongs in the History forum, perhaps with a link from the GoH new member's thread. (Also, some of the information might be duplicated in DC's awesome "building a medieval village" sticky)

I don't mind the chatter as long as it's getting advice, asking opinions on ideas and stuff, i would consider that on topic, although personally i would try to bring more fully formed ideas to the table, rather than asking advice for every step of something that's being fleshed out.

Personally, i am still chugging along on my Sultan's Gate freebuild, with some time taken out for building something for the "Mount up!" challenge. (nearly done with that now) Time will be a bit of an issue this month though, as i have a couple of other project deadlines looming, as well as getting a new job! It's all good, but the SG freebuild might be as much as a month away from completion atm.

Also who, what, and where are the Drow?

Drow are dark elves that principly live underground in Nocturnus, although drow tunnels extend into Avalonia territory as well -the previous challenge saw participants fighting a drow invasion of Avalonia. They are militarily aligned with The Black Spire faction in Nocturnus. (For more info on The Black Spire, see challenge I )

Sounds awesome!

Perhaps my little faction could have a secret alliance with them..?

Anyways, I just thought of the BEST idea for the concept of my race! I think you guys will like it, care if I write a few of my ideas?

My city of Mpya Stedor has (a well-known secret) alliance with one of the most famous Drow tribes Historica ever had. Had, because they are banned to places only some people know about :) After those all-mighty Drows were banned, other Drow tribes tried to take over their place and alligned with the Black Spire.

(I am talking about the Drow cities of Angeli)

Feel free to share your ideas! :)

Okay, so my thoughts were that my race where originally Elves (not sure what type of Elf, originally, maybe just a regular Elf) and they seeked the knowledge for technology and science. This unpleased the God(s) (not sure how much Gods are in GoH realm) because these Elves turned their back against them and strived to challenge the power of Godly deities. So either on on the summer solstice or an eclipse (haven't decided which one yet), the Elves were cursed. Their skin color began to turn that of blood or wine, their teeth began to grow sharper (and maybe began to look a bit less like Elves and look more like Orcs, that I don't know yet). All these Elves were forever changed, they dreaded their metamorphosis and wanted to gain revenge against the Gods. The Elven king began to go mad, but a few of the Elves did something to the king. No one know if they killed him or changed him into a beast that shall protect the city for the crime of treason against the new Elven kind by skinning some alive, which was know as the "Bloody Sunset". These Elves then created a council, swore their duty to continue on with their advancements in technology and science without challenging the power of the Gods. At the first council meet, one of the Gods spoke to them.

That's what I have so far and I will try to make these in some scene in MOCs. Tell me your thoughts on my back-story so far about this race! :sweet:

A little something about technology in Historica: no guns. What little gunpowder has been worked with is too unstable. The closest to any real firearms that can be made are highly reinforced bombards, and those are few and far inbetween. The practical reason behind this decision by the Staff is to keep Historica in a Medieval Fantasy realm, and avoid straying into Steampunk with fantasy elements.

Thank you!

Yup that's right! I really like Elder Scroll lore and that's what made me think of the concept. Almost a mix between Dwemer and Dunmer lore

Well Lord Damaximus is mainly occupied with the siege of Eastgate.

His substitute in Mpya Stedor, Lord Tomvaximus, is longing for a good old fashioned bath in the therms of the city. He is kinda busy lately with keeping the peace between the different warlords of Mpya Stedor. They all want the new elephant in their army, so they are parading in the city with their soldiers.

Meanwhile the workers started renovating the Western Wall and its quays.

Lord Max Samu is somewhere around Everlast as they found a new mount for the I.A.M.S. Assassins

Maestro is looking to send a trademission to Auner and maybe to establish a shop there.

Furthermore, there are some Alleenridders wandering all-over historica looking for missions. One of them will visit Sultans Gate.

Anyway, those who can read between the lines, have an idea of my upcomming projects this month :)

Sounds great DM! Looks like we can expect a lot from you :classic:

Especially looking forward to your interpretation of SG as you after all was the one who sparked the whole CB

What do the rest of you guys think of my concept?

I think it definitely could work, Historica would be an even more diverse place with a tribe of fallen elves :classic:

It sounds as it can be done by starting with a focus on the characters (small MOCs, centered on a few minifigs) and be expanded to include their dwellings/surroundings/fortifications/army/... as much as the brick and time budget allows.

My plan with the first few MOCs is going to be based around how these new Elves came to be. I like the thought of them being prosperous with a pretty large city with pretty big walls and fortifications but I don't know if others will like it. I also had this interesting idea with armor and weapons made from Ivory but the Brute Armor from BrickWarriors don't have it in white so I'll just stick to using steel colored stuff.

Hello all. Back again for a short visit after a few months... Haven't touched a brick in over two months -- we have a new puppy who loves to chew things, so all the bricks have been put away for a while. (Anyone have any good suggestions for building while you have a puppy? Unfortunately, we're unable to dedicate a room to LEGO.)

I'm going to Bricks By The Bay this weekend in Santa Clara, CA. Is anyone else going? If so, look for me -- my brick-badge will have "Kaliphlin" on it.

Nice to hear you again NM!! Erm I have no experience with puppies. I would suggest to brick on a huge table? :p

California is just a little bit too far away from Belgium (Europe) to fly over for a weekend :p I want to do it sometime in the future (exposing at an American convention) when I have a good working contract :) (I just graduated so you will have to wait a few years).

Welcome back! I'm new to Kaliphlin in case you didn't know. With a new puppy, just get parts away from him/her so he/she doesn't chew or eat them. Tables help out best from my experience.

Yes, I suppose a table is best. Although he's starting to be big enough to jump up on things, so it would have to be a high table. And I suppose we could do a better job training him not to jump up and chew things.

The bummer is that all our bricks are in plastic bins, which we used to lay out on the floor. It would take a very big table to have room for all the bins. Perhaps moving the bricks to a drawer system would be better.

There's a session at Bricks by the Bay called: "Sorting and Storage Roundtable." Maybe I'll get them to discuss storing and building LEGO with a puppy!

Anyone feel up to quickly recapping the past three to four months of GoH for me? Or should I just read a hundred pages of posts...
