Don't worry about having these extravagant first few builds. Take your time and evolve your builds as you go along. Most of the time when someone new joins, they have pretty small builds and some aren't that good, (no offense to anyone) but the evolved over time and might make huge fortresses like SK. Know what I'm sayin'?

Alright, thanks for the pep-talk! I'll try to get a few microscale builds up by this week. I'll try to make them as best as possible to go with my stories too.

Feel free to make a thread that display your stories and ideas. You can add as many posts as you'd like, and you can go back and edit your post afterwards.

Ska is the Guild leader for Kaliphlin, so his word is law in this thread as well. Each guild has different contests - Kaliphlin has the University challenge at present, which is far more comprehensive then the Avalonian mini-challenges have been.

Okay, thank you. And I can post them here in GoH?

I'll also have to look into the Kaliphlin challenge then, I've always just been hearing about it.

At Behemoth: don't be bothered because your first MoC already disappeared from the first page. There are just a lot of new entries being posted everyday :) especially nowadays due smaller AOM-builds and Mount-Up entries.

Also, have some patient, one of the next days I will comment on all the new Mocs of the last 2 or 3 weeks :)

And everybody else: part 1 of 3 is ready of project "renovating West Stedor" and has a 96x48 base :)

Will be photographed soon :D

Well every time I look at what other people make, it just makes me feel like my MOC's are decrepit compared the everyone else's. I just don't want to disappoint people like I did with my first one, it got knocked off the front page super fast because it wasn't as nice as other MOC's you see here. I just want to blow your guys' socks off when you see my stuff. But I suppose I can make microscale MOC's to give insight how my city would look like.

It is a bad idea to compare your builds to others in terms of worth. If your only incentive is to get a big "wow" from everyone, you will burn yourself out very quickly. While it is always nice to noticeably impress others, your first order of business is to be pleased with your build yourself. Lego is an art and like a painting, everyone has their own "taste" so while a build might be awesome to one, it will not be so to another.

Alright guys, I made my temporary sig-fig. I just don't know how to upload the picture from Flickr...

I've also got some custom made concept art as to how I want to future race to look like.

At Behemoth: I'm sorry I seemed to come across as a jerk, that was not my intention. The downside of only ever communicating via typed words is you can never communicate with body language or tone of voice. This can often lead to misunderstanding because we are prone to read into someone's comments our own assumptions which may not be correct. I find it's best to always give someone the benefit of the doubt when you can't see them in person as they communicate. I guarentee you will go farther in life if you do.

It's good you're asking for advice here. I hope the input you are getting helps. My input would be to try to post fewer posts per day. If you really want more input, go back and read from the beginning of each guild's forum. You will learn the answers to many of your questions that way. You can also go back to Book 1 and read what happened there. That will give you some foundation for the world of GoH that already exists and will help you know how your characters and story will fit best.

Okay, apology accepted. I'll try to limit my posts that are questions to about maybe 5 a day, maybe less. I'll go take a look at Book I and read what happened.

[Niro Goldwine, born in Kaliphlin, raised in The Siccus Badlands by a family of desert marauders whom killed traveling merchants and adventurers. He still lives there, but not as a marauder anymore. By the age of 9, soldiers and angry merchants from Barqa came down to The Siccus Badlands and slaughtered all adults and elders. Niro, and many other children, where taken back as slaves and sold to wealthy merchants or were recruited to local armies. Niro was one of the few to be recruited as a soldier because he was one of the sickly children that no merchant would buy. By the age of 18, he became of Lieutenant of Barqa's military for being taller than most other soldiers and his excellent fighting abilities with a sword. He was gifted a special battleaxe made from bronze called "Mercy" because the edges were sharper than any sword in Barqa and lighter than any battleaxe. One slash with the thing has been known to dismember the legs off of a Giant. Now at the age of 30, present day, he is still part of Barqa's military but as a Commander. He's defended the city from Bandits to Orcs and to Giants with his trusty battleaxe, Mercy.]

Sorry for the double post, I wanted to post my temporary sig-fig as soon as possible.

@ Behemoth

If you really want to show some of your building skill, I really recommend building 8x8 vignettes. Usually it gives you enough room to work on a particular technique, while at the same time it does not require tons of pieces. Just my $0.02.

Anyways here is my last GoH build period: http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=98875

I figured I should kill off my character and wrap up what happens to my forces. Hope you all continue to build awesome MOC's! I'll always be somewhere in the Historic forum watching this guild's progress.

Not a bad idea to build 8x8 vignettes. It seems very tiny but I'm a bit more use to building smaller vignettes if it's focused on one certain thing.

Okay, thank you. And I can post them here in GoH?

You should have one thread that contains your stories and concept ideas. (DaMaximus has one thread for his City, I believe Gedren has 1 thread for his Nestlands storyline... maybe?) Once you get pictures of your finished MOCs, you can start a new thread for each MOC.

Alright, I'll do that. I made my sig-fig but he's just going to be temporary. most likely, so once I have all the stuff I get from BrickLink, I'll be posting even longer and more detailed stories and MOC's. I'll still be doing some ones with Niro, but not as much.

Nice Sigfig, Behemoth! I will be looking forward to follwoing his adventure and how your story develops!

Great to see your sigfig Behemoth! =)

Try to add some more light when you take your pics :)

Thanks guys, it only took a few minutes to think of him. Overall, he came out awesome and I like him a lot. But, like I said, he won't be my future sig-fig. Depending on how much you guys like him, he'll have a different fate. It's he's like a boring character, he'll just die. If he's an interesting character, something "odd" will happen to him.

I'll try to add better lighting but my MOC's and vignettes but my Kodak EasyShare C140 is a pain to focus in with when I try to take close pictures.

A friendly advice, don´t think so much how we will like your charachters. We all build for we like it, not because someone else like it. Of course it´s fun to hear positive feedback from your fellow afols friends but we don´t want to control your own story in GoH! =)

Alright. Well when the time comes, Niro's story and my future sig-fig's story will someone be connected and make for something... "interesting" then. That way it doesn't seem odd and make you guys confused. Niro's story will begin sometime this week as soon as I figure out how to take nice and crisp close-up pictures.

Now with a sigfig I can say: Welcome to Kaliphlin Niro Goldwine! May your continued service to the great city of Barqa help us keep the city safe and let you prosper! :classic:

One simple advice: Good lighting! (There are tutorials here on EB if you look for them)

Thank you for the welcome, it seems odd since I've been here for almost a month though.

The story of Niro won't be very long so prepare for another intro next month or so!

As of lighting, I'll look at tutorials and try to make use of some of the lights I have.

@nightstalker Noooooooooooooo! I hope this will prove to be just a cliffhanger or that you can find time to come back with another character.

Kai, many congratulations on your graduation!

Siedna Ruadh welcome to Kaliphlin, great to have you with us. May Ruadh prosper and flourish.

Niro Goldwine a warm welcome to you too. Behemoth, I love your enthusiasm and energy. My tip is to remember that "you control the action ", so you don't really need to ask for permission as long as it's within the overall story and fits the stuff on page 1 of this thread. If you go over the line on anything, the rest of the guild will get you back on track.

I'm not building anything or active in comments at the moment, I have to unpack all of our boxes before I can play Lego. Shame, I wanted to join the mount up challenge... Muad'dib!... But I did just visit a PaB wall and the global HQ of games workshop, so I'm stoked with ideas and fun colours. Oh and I got some highly exciting new bricks with my lug!

Outdoors with a cloudy sky is probably the best light you have

Thanks robuko! :classic:

I've always loved telling fantasy stories but can never illustrate them as much. That's why I'm usually all post, no MOC. But I'll be trying to change that.

Okay, but it's unfortunate that it's been raining all day by me and it's been dark and cloudy.

I'll give that a good but last time I tried it, I didn't have too much luck with it.

Again, thank you all for your kind welcome! :sweet:

I might have to hire one to paint some portraits to hang in Castle Burnby!

I will incorporate a Ruadhi in my WIP !

Marvelous!

Have Ruadhi something special so you can easily recognise them?

I'm afraid you're a few steps ahead of me! Here's what I'm thinking so far:

  • I haven't yet finalized any characteristic Ruadhi accessories -- I still need to order some parts and see how they actually look, and it'll probably be a few weeks at least until I reach that point in my builds. Right now, I'm leaning towards the BrickWarriors City Watch Tassets in red (which could look like a sort of work apron.) The BrickForge gunbelt in red (with a paintbrush tucked in the holster) is also a possibility I'm considering.
  • I've looked at using specific minifig pieces, but I don't want to be limited to using only male or only female artists. In general, Ruadhi favor work clothes, rather than formal wear. Think peasants, blacksmiths, etc. -- something you can get dirty in. (But not too ragged -- we're not slobs!)
  • Tools include palette and brush for painters, and hammer and chisel for sculptors.
  • Finally, Ruadhi artists are often accompanied by their Belville Mastiffs, an ancient breed of dogs who serve as companions, protectors, and pack animals. I was going to save this one for a surprise, but the mastiffs are probably the easiest way to identify a Ruadhi! :classic:

I'm open to feedback and suggestions as far as wardrobing.

Um, super cool, even though I don't play any GW games anymore, I would so like to go there. Such an amazing bunch of models artists.

Hmm, I got a fig or two with some artist clothing but not the dog :p otherwise I can create a herald for Ruadh if you tell me what has to be in it :)

Or Ruadh van have a specific flag combination (like orange-purple or blue-dark green or ...) :)
