Representing all four (playable) guilds of Historica at the Lego Fan Weekend, with Kaliphlin in the center spot of course! 15378671805_241a472895_c.jpg

(My castle which is Avalonian-ish is the biggest build I brought however, but that is not at the same table )

Does any one have any suggestions for this W.I.P.. I was experimenting with making a modular building and this was the result.

Well, I think the roof really looks great. So simple, yet it totally has the right look! Except -- I think the roof needs to overhang the front wall by a stud or so.

Similarly, you might want to try recessing the windows on the front wall a half-stud (or maybe a full stud). That front wall looks too flat. And if you have any more of those 1x2 plates with door rail, you could try putting them right above the windows, so the rails stick out to form a bit of a ledge over the top of the window.

Nice job on the walls. If you have some gray 1x2 masonry bricks, you might try replacing a few of the regular 1x2 gray bricks with the masonry ones, for added texture.

And I'm not too sure about the sloped wall with windows above the front door. It looks a bit odd -- are those windows or skylights?

Good job, I think it's almost there!

Two builds in a week! I now think the key to building is to keep the MOCs small and manageable. Previously I was always getting lost trying to perfect very large builds. New mantra: keep it simple and small, and tell a good story if you can.

I am coming to the same conclusion that I need to "build smart" rather than "build big" which I always tend to lean to as the default option. Especially with a second kid due any day, a new job with much more responsibility (and no overtime compensation...) since this morning and the bad judgement to sign up for a 90 km cross-country skiing race in February (which means I need to step up my workout a lot the coming months).

Can't wait to see it! :classic:

Ha ha thanks Gideon. Monumental for me is pretty small by your standards :classic: . I ran out of bricks half way up the first building already.

BrickCurve, I really like your building. It's quirky and differentiated. I agree with everything NM said, except about the sloping wall and windows, which I really like. You might want to put some sloped bricks right behind them to rest on.

I've had the songs from Disney's Aladdin stuck in my head for a few days now. I've got Robin Williams on the brain. "Prince Ali, fabulous he . . ."

There, I've done what I could to spread the affliction.

@ BC: I'm guessing you have those walls and roof designed to be removable. I may have to try a modified version of that roof.

I have one build on a grand scale, a second on a moderately large scale, an LDD build that if in real bricks (not possible) would dwarf the first, and possibly a more standard build for Ruahd.

Thanks for nothing! Ugh. That is one catchy tune. Now I'll just have to think of something equally catchy and annoying to get it out of my head.

Especially with a second kid due any day

I hear you there. Although when they get older (my youngest is seven), you get to build LEGO with them. Not to mention the excuse of "I didn't buy this set for me, it's for our son!"

I'm going the other way with my current WIP. Monumental scale and not so detailed for the architecture.

I'll guess that in your case "not so detailed for the architecture" is still much more detailed and innovative than most of us! Can't wait to see it.

Hey guys, how's everyone doing? You guys have been uploading some great MOCs with unique stories, speaking of which, I have to get a new build up soon. I'd try for the weekend but I'll be at a Zombie-Walk on Saturday, so I'll do my best to get something up on Sunday. Not sure what to actually build, I'm sure I'll think of something.

And Ecc, that is a pretty good teaser but one problem - I hate teasers! Now you got me so excited for Challenge III now. I'm not sure what to expect the actual challenge to be though...

Wow, Ecc, just..wow!

Behemoth, great to see you back under a different but still very large name  Actually my new WIP is inspired by you.

I wanted to flag this set for 2015. I have 5 of the tigers already, but I am loving the carpet prints and the walls. Need at least 2. Jasmine would be great in Kali, I expect a flame war over minidoll use though....and another flame war when she ends up in the Duke's harem

Oh and please would you all consider voting for my dragon in the Exo suit challenge? It's number 6 in category A

robuko, I already voted for you before I saw that comment, you're build is fantastic. I agree about the set, that has some very nice parts in it, so I might get it.

I think with minidolls, tall dwarves, and all other types of malarkey going on this here GoH is turning into a bit of a free for all. :p

That's a great Kali set though!

I've actually been planning to use "Goliath" as my username for a while and I'm glad I decided to use it. I was primarily inspired by "David & Goliath" for the username. :classic:

I can't wait to see your WIP, if it's inspired by me especially!

Kinda quiet in the guild last few days... Everyone must be at the Qarkyr Rocktoberfest!

I'm home from work today with a bad cold, and can't concentrate on work stuff, so I'm sorting LEGO! Three huge bins to go through - ugh. :hmpf_bad:

I've just been chilling, haven't been doing very much to be honest. I got some ideas for the looks of the soldiers for my future project. Torsos and legs are still to be determined.

I should also organize my parts soon, I accidentally stepped on one of my BrickWarriors' weapons and broke it.

I have this interesting idea using wedge bricks, but will have to wait until the Nestlands Embassy is done because most of my supply is there now. I have to get back to that tomorrow. Lots of bricks are spread out on my small table, and I have yet to fully dismantle the Nestlands Trading Post in Mpya Stedor.

I am also wondering if I should dig out some more pink for the Nestlands Embassy build. I think I have just the way to make it seem really creepy. There are also a few other ideas that need testing.
