Hey guys, how's everything going? I see it's been quiet around here for a while so I thought be show make some noise! The holidays are coming up, obviously, anyone have big plans? Maybe perhaps with expanding their collection?

As for me, I haven't been active here for a while, I apologize for that, but nonetheless I have been busy and motivated for things to do here. As for my busy side, I sent an application in to attend a special class to get a head-start into the Department of Homeland Security, which I hope I get accepted into! But I have been motivated by this game called "Grepolis", which suits my idea almost perfectly for what I want to create here in Kaliphlin, which I plan to actually base it more off the Roman Empire. As for a city, I'm not sure yet but I like the idea of Bartering and Trading so I may do that. Any constructive criticism and thoughts are appreciated. :classic:

Hey all,

It's been a while since I've posted in this forum, but I should be back to the project soon (once I'm revitalized by a few bricklink orders). I'm aiming to participate in Challenge III and I'm compiling a submission for the Collectable Minifig Challenge, although my prologue build is shaping up to be a little larger than I anticipated. In any case, it's good to be back :classic:

BrickCurve - I kind of like the bridge idea, although both would be good.

Finished my challenge build A , except I can't find one minifig I need for it... Raining heavily the past few days here in Kaliphlornia (finally!), so I can't really take good photos anyway, but hope to have it up soon.

I was disappointed in the LEGO sales this November. Didn't buy anything at all, unlike previous years when I've found good deals to be had. Did anyone get any good deals?

@NiceMarmot- Thanks I will probably go with the bridge, assuming I can wrangle enough time over christmas.

I got one good deal- a 40% off voucher which I got as a prize at a local expo, I spent it on a modular pet shop. Not really anything to do with the november Lego sales at all but that was the only set I was interested in.

I agree that the sales were not that noteworthy... I did pick up a few sets but nothing GoH related.

Update for those helping with the introduction challenge for Challenge 4 -- I am going to move the date for intro builds back to the end of January. I would like to launch the challenge during the first week of Feb -- theoretically we will have judged Chal 3 by then.

Also pushing back the date helps a lot of you who are in the Christmas crunch, and frankly, I am swamped with work right now. Thank you everyone who has volunteered. And we can still take a few more if anyone is interested.

Phew! I was worried about getting this build finished in time, but end of January is totally doable.

Thanks, Ska! I did manage to get some building done for my part but December is always hectic for me. It's also good since I plan to be getting a lot of bricks and new minifig stuff to create the legion I've planned to make for a while. Don't worry though, I'm not going to go crazy and get like 50 minifigs, I'm thinking 13, at most, would be best since that's considered a lot of a 64x64 baseplate, especially if those minifigs fight for the same cause! I'll definitely have my part done that you've tasked me with but I'll try my best to get good quality pictures up with my amateur camera.

I hope everyone has a great Christmas and get ready for 2015 because we are just a few weeks away!

As someone who went crazy and bought parts for four 50 fig regiments, let me tell you that it is very hard to get those guys all in one build, unless you are doing a major battlefield. In the Wither Woods battle we still had units that never made it on the field because there was no room!

If necessary I'd be happy to take another one!

I would be happy to help with a smaller build although with christmas and various brickvention mocs I don't have time for anything too large.

Let me get through a destination wedding this weekend (I am at the age where everyone you know is desperate to get married... this is like the 4th wedding this semester) and I will go look at the list and do a readjustment (we had a few people drop) along with add some more builds.

That's basically like my problem - determining how much is too many. I do plan to get a lot more bricks this time around so my limitations may go to 10 "base" soldiers rather than 13. Armors, weapons, and minifig parts factor into that and it becomes costly faster than you expect. I suppose you could re-use the soldier minifigs into other types of soldier like, for example, a Hoplite rather than a Centurion just by switching out a fallen soldier. But it's just odd to explain what happened to the body...

And if possible, could I also get a new part to build after I finish my first one? I feel I should contribute more since it'll be a new year and I'd like to start if off by showing builds rather than showing posts.

Finally had some time to build a little and now finally got around to take some pictures also, here is my first freebuild since I don't know when:

My contribution has been a bit lacking here too. I've only spent maybe four hours on GOH builds in the last three weeks. I should be able to get some major building done next week, though. Hopefully I will get to finish Quest for the Egg Part Two before the end of the year. The two Nestlands Embassy builds will have to wait until January.

In other news, the Laurell K. Hamilton fan forum is being transformed into a more general literature fan forum. The thing that has be excited by this is that the site Admin and Mods chose my suggestion for the new name, Beyond the Bindings. I am feeling really good about this, and wanted to share. If I didn't already have three builds in the works already I'd do a build for this.

I went a bit further with the bridge idea and have ended up with 2 different bridges in the same moc and have no idea where to go from here.

Any ideas would be much appreciated.

I have to say that the transition from a small brown walkway barely big enough for two people to a finished looking bridge large enough for three horsemen to pass each other seems a bit sudden. I'm also not completely sold on the use of two different (though similar) kinds of water in the same build. What I would probably do is take the large bridge off, save it for another MOC, and end this one with a wall like on the other side. (I also might change the water under the swinging bridge to be like the water under the other one, which I think looks a good deal better.) Your landscaping is good especially on the second section of path, looking at it from right to left. On the first section I think you could do a touch more (I'm seeing a fairly straight line, especially from this top view).

Then you'd have either a free build or maybe a Cat. C build if you put your diplomat on it, travelling to Avalonia - providing you're on the men's team, can't remember the dwarf's category right now.

The differentiating water is there because I am currently ordering more 1 x 1 slopes to finish off the rock work in the second segment so then I can do the final layer of water. the 2 varying styles of bridge came about while I was experimenting with ideas, (I made this moc to test several of them). A later reincarnation of this would probably be the last large moc I will have time for considering that I need something built for Brickvention by the 14 of January at the latest.

The idea for the rope bridge mainly came from this- https://flic.kr/p/aGKhAg

My ideas for the stone bridge mainly consist of a tower or similar structure built on the next segment of the bridge, similar to this 9614728054_99aaeb53df_n.jpg

or a slightly more ambitious bridge ending with the gatehouse and wall, something like this 5260092366_f987c60acd_n.jpg

So you're considering continuing what you've got so far with another section? I still think the transition might look out of place but more context probably would improve it. (Frankly I'd still split it up, but that of course is up to you!)

I will probably demolish the 2nd segment and use parts from that as a base for the next part of the main bridge. The only problem is that there will be 8 studs of water and a row of burps left on the end of the 32 x 32 baseplate, I will probably have to move the whole thing over 8 studs and start again.

Is it fine if I use this armor for my faction? I'll be "recycling" this armor for Sci-Fi builds but the helmet I plan to use if the BrickForge Hoplite Helmet with the armor. The armor just looks a bit futuristic but I plan to have a story line go with the origins of that armor tied to the current challenge going on. Long story short, Dwarves created the armor and have implemented a type of core to the back that cools down the person's temperature if they're wearing the armor so the wearer remains cool and comfortable in the scorching sun of Kaliphlin.

Can you guys give me some opinions on this? I want to change my initial concept a little to a looser concept of a Roman Empire because of budget issues at the moment as well as certain items being out of stock. :sceptic:

Aesthetically, the armor would probably be fine for GoH (I can't see the back of the armor in your link, so it's hard to say for sure.) The story about the core, though, seems way too futuristic for a historical forum, even a fantasy one like ours.
