Thanks for the positive vibes everyone and those aren't bottles.....they are oil cans....more typical of the 1930's gas station forecourt fare.

My other new builds will be coming forth next week.....so keep watching !

Very nice!! I like how you've done the lamp post and the bowsers.

Thanks 'Kristel', I have the likes of 'ER0L', etc., for the inspiration for this the first of a new series of creations.......though New Mannum is not to be forgotten as there will be at least one new and unplanned before today structure.....an original one too.....but that is for another day......as I've been bitten by the art deco bug first !

Keep watching !

I like the sign you made and the colour scheme worka too. Are you going to put an extended roof to cover the gas pumps?

Thanks 'kermit' for those kind words, actually now it was quite typical that gas/petrol stations of the 1930's art deco era not to have driveway roofs.....a Google Image search will prove that.

Plus I didn't want to extend the roof.....it cost a small fortune to do the last one.:laugh:

Thanks 'timmy' and 'monsinjor' for your kind words and very positive vibes.......I'm still nutting out the next building.....choosing window and wall styles......I'll start early in the week...keep watching ! :classic:

Wow, this looks gorgeous, I love it! The sign works very well, same for the lamp post. The slanted display is a great idea. Great job on this!

Thanks 'ER0L', I have moved the whole MOC to a 32x32 base plate now......so it can fit along with the standard road plates.......keep watching !

Very nice LT....

You've captured the spirit of the very first LEGO gas station of 1956-66... the 310 Esso Service Station.

Here is an early 1956-58 box version showing the old style (no notches) macaroni bricks. This set was one of the main reasons that macaroni bricks were developed in 1955. TLG even put a red hand painted edge to the early waffle plates at the top of the roof line. The red edge to the bricks above that however were an error by the artist... since that was never done.

This image is from my 2800 page Unofficial LEGO Sets/Parts Collectors Guide on DVD/download... the chapter on LEGO garages and service stations...

Thanks for the kind words and interesting info on that classic town plan set (oh, I would love to have one of those sets on display in my glass case at home  ).

I'm currently working on that new art deco styled hardware store.....I have just made the coolest counter/cash register combo ever, but everyone with have to wait until I have done more to it.

Keep watching !

LT.... here is an American early gas pump and lamps. Ironically these lamps are almost identical to the LEGO Esso Gas Pump lamps of 1955-67....

But the "Red Crown Gasoline" petrol pump very much resembles those of your model...

Also, here was the 1950s Town Plan board (Masonite) block for the service station...

And this is the 1960s 200/246 Town Plan board (cardboard) service station block....

And... here is an example of a very rare LEGO item... Esso Service Oil Cans. These were only ever sold in Denmark from 1955-58, and command about $100 each today in excellent condition. They are 1x1 round bricks (no lip at base) with an Esso sticker...

Oh, man I love that oil can......oh, why don't they do it these days eh ?

I used early ESSO and Mobil gas pumps to base mine on......besides that now the hardware store is slowly coming together....sadly old man Hooper has been kicked out of his old hardware store to make way for a newer building......keep watching !

I have a question to ask everyone......should I add any more to the gas station design....i.e. tyre/tire stack, air dispenser, etc., ?

The hardware store design is coming along nicely......I hope it will impress even as good as the gas station has......keep watching !

I think a tyre stack and air pump would be great additions to put on the station near the wall.

I'll look at period air dispensers and tyre displays shortly then see how I can do them true to period in Lego.....Keep watching !

I think a real old timey Coke machine would be perfect.

LOL.....how did you know I just knock one up on LDD !

It will be a simple one.....no logos on it (printer is still out of ink  ).......keep watching !

Good job with the tire rack and I just love that coke machine!

I was thinking about those old service stations, and you know they used to have a penumatic hose laid out across the driveway that would ding a bell inside. That of course would notify the attendant that a customer had arrived. Maybe you could try to add a little hose like that. Maybe that would be too much, I don't know, but it would be period correct.

Still, this MOC looks wonderful, and keeps getting better!

Thanks 'Only Sinner' for your kind words, and yeah, I know that bell trip wire to sound a bell or buzzer when a car drives over it.......I wonder when they were first used eh ? Hello, Goggle right ?

Keep watching !
