Posted August 27, 201311 yr G'day all, I recently acquired a rather used 8369 Dirt Crusher RC and I have been looking at it to see if its parts are useful or not... Its basically just a simple RC car without much effort required to build the thing. The only thing noticeable that I think would be remotely useful are the fat 11.5L Shocks (x2) I have no experience with the RC products at all so I was hoping someone could shed some light on this simple but tough looking car.. (I know the panels on mine are incorrectly mounted, that's the way I received it) Cheers Ben
August 27, 201311 yr Parts are not useful elswhere, except shocks, but It would not be worth taking apart otherwise complete set for them. I have two (dirt crusher and extreme offroader) and I dont even treat them as lego. They are RC cars, which can give you solid amount of fun.
August 27, 201311 yr I don't know its useful through, but it is such as rare! I looking it for everyday to buy it through... the point of this set is it have the strongest, most powerful and fastest motor that lego company Ever made. but I know it doesn't fit to regular Lego. Do we have any solution for add some Technic panel to it? Also, the wheel can be used with 24t regular lego gear. Parts are not useful elswhere, except shocks, but It would not be worth taking apart otherwise complete set for them. I have two (dirt crusher and extreme offroader) and I dont even treat them as lego. They are RC cars, which can give you solid amount of fun. What do you mean for 'Extreme offroader' ? Model Number?
August 27, 201311 yr I messed up name. I was meaning this set: http://brickset.com/detail/?Set=8675-1
August 27, 201311 yr Author So I pulled it apart, cleaned it, then built it as per the instructions. It appears to be in decent shape but its missing the charger so I can't test it :-( I just ordered one from BL so I will see if it works when it arrives in a few weeks :-D There are plenty of pin holes on the body so I might mess around with it a bit if I can get it working.......
August 27, 201311 yr the point of this set is it have the strongest, most powerful and fastest motor that lego company Ever made. ah - is this another motor than the buggy motor which is e.g. in 8366 or 8475???
August 27, 201311 yr Author ah - is this another motor than the buggy motor which is e.g. in 8366 or 8475??? Yeah it's a big chunky lookin thing with fat axles and the front steering motor is similar in size.
August 27, 201311 yr Can you tell us something about the driving? I thought about getting one for my kids.
August 28, 201311 yr so how does this motor compare to the one in the 8376 etc ? The 8376 has 2x the motors in the 8421 crane. Very powerful, and 2 mechanical outputs (low/high speeds). Check philo's webpage on motor performance/comparison. The motor for the RC 8369, can't tell as I do not have one. Though, 8376 and 8369 share at least one other component ... the remote+antenna. August 28, 201311 yr I used to have this set. The motors are very powerful. If you tried to use them with gears the gears would probably break quickly. The model itself is nearly indestructible. I used to go out after it had rained and find a puddle and do donuts until the puddle was too small to continue. Also finding places to jump from is nice. Eventually i got tired of it but now i regret getting rid of it. As for parts, well then this is mostly useless. You might be able to use the shocks as stated before. Other than that i recommend keeping it built and race it till the sun goes out. I've never owned a proper RC-car (only toys) but i don't think even those are as durable as this one.
August 28, 201311 yr I got this set for Christmas in grade 3, as I was really impressed by what I saw of it on "Lego.com". I have not found reuse for any of the parts. The springs might work, but I have never tried them, and I don't yet have enough Technic to build large vehicles anyways. The part that might be reusable are those light grey parts that hold pin-holes together. It's a strange alternative to actual Technic pins. The electronics are just 2 large preassemblies, with duplofied versions of Technic axles to attach wheels (refered to as "superaxles" on Bricklink). It's a strange design decision of making it based on Technic, but mostly its own system for Racers RC with little intercompatibility. It could be disappointing if you expect what you normally do from a Lego product, so it is better to think of it as an upper-toy-grade RC buggy. I would personally prefer a true Technic automobile with decent performance, preferably with a dirt-blocking panel and semi-waterproof electronics for cleaning. The reason for the special parts may be to protect from water and dirt, and because you probably would be overprotective with standard Technic parts. I didn't realize this back in the day, but the decided to get fancy with the battery. Now I identify it as Lithium-ion Polymer, the best rechargeable battery available. These batteries are expensive, as Lego now sells them for Power Functions at $60 CAD. I would have to look-up some other RC in that price range, as there could be some high-performing hobby-grade for a similar price (but I don't know). Didn't someone make a post early on the thread saying that this thing is rare, but they have wanted to buy it for a long time? I can't seem to find the post, so it may have been deleted or edited. But I probably wouldn't mind selling it, finding-out that it could be valuable. I have the car assembled in my bedroom. But the buyer would also have to buy a few parts from other sellers. I have not used it for years because the antenna on the car is broken. I never got extra because my parents were generally downright terrible with online purchases. I could probably dig-out the controller somewhere. I recall seeing the fancy Li-po battery in recent times, and I think the charger too. But I might not be lucky to find both at once. But good to hear that it is a standard plug that other brands produce.
August 28, 201311 yr Well if by Lipo you mean the rechargeable battery box then the plug would be different. Also a third-party lipo would be too small to fit inside the compartment and risk getting damaged as the car drives. Just go with a nimh-pack like the one included.
August 28, 201311 yr Battery is also standard for RC cars. I bought "Ansmann Racepack 2700mAh" for around 35euro and it works great.
August 29, 201311 yr I bought the bigger 'outdoor challenger' for 10€ second handed, and i putted a third party battery pack of 3000mAh in it, and this fantastic thing just keeps going If you have the chance of buying it, then do it, Tibivi
August 30, 201311 yr The rubber pieces that hold it together are cool and definatly have other uses, the shocks are actual shocks! Not just springs, they are worth a mint. This thing is very fast and capable, super fun.
August 30, 201311 yr ah - is this another motor than the buggy motor which is e.g. in 8366 or 8475??? yes. The 8369 motor is two times faster than buggy motor and really stronger than buggy motor......I think people don't know much about it, maybe they don't think that motor is lego... so how does this motor compare to the one in the 8376 etc ? the 8369 motor is faster and stronger than 8376 motor,
