"I've got some gold to front too, don't ask how I got it. I think I'll give it to B, since she seems decent 'nuff. For a Paladin. Who's with me?"

Skrupp leans back in his chair.

"Ahhh. Ain't it half boring being locked in here on our lonesome with nothing to do? Best get this buisness over with if ya' ask me. Let them Nephilum gits come and get it, sure I can take 'em if they try."

He grins wolfishly.

"But, ain' t no point in complaining, that won't get us outa' this mess. Anyhow, we're stuck here, isolated... with only a helpin' of ale and a handful of women to pass between us. Kharybdis, my old girl, why don't ya' slither on over here and keep me company? Them tentacles of yours get me going ev'ry time."

Kharybdis pointedly ignored the old Nord. She knew that he would lose interest in her quickly and move on to the next woman who caught his eye, the lecherous buffoon had the attention span of a gnat. Okay, so she had slept with him once or twice when she was new to the surface world and still naive about the ways of the land-dwellers. It had helped dull the pain from her divorce, and he had seemed like such a gallant fellow. Of course, there was no such thing as chivalry in Eubric, as she had been quick to discover when she found the raider rolling around on the floor with a barmaid... in the middle of a Quest, no less. Just thinking about it made her blood boil. Deep breaths... 1... 2.. 3... Don't want to end up writhing about on the floor as an octopus. Gotta keep my temper under control. She figured they called him 'Ox' because of his stupidity and he had tacked 'strong' on there himself. Her patience was rewarded when Skrupp took some pale lass down to the wine cellar, the noises of their passionate lovemaking easily audible in the main hall. She rolled her eyes and began to mingle with a group of heroes, some of whom were familiar and some of whom she;d never met before. They were planning on pooling Gold to purchase a Magnifying Glass, although there were of course squabbles about trustworthiness. She stepped up and asked, "Well, as far as I can tell it seems only abilities are tallied at the end of the day, not all actions. As such, we'd be stuck on an honor system, which would make passing around the magnifying glass hard to trust (at least initially) since if a Nephilim gets it they could just claim their scumbuddies to be good and pass it to them, so on and so forth. My idea is that we write all our names on a parchment and use a RNG spell to randomize it, then give the magnifying glass to number 1, who checks and gives it to number two, and so on. That way the only way a Nephilim could escape notice is if there was a Nephilim directly above him on the list... and once we've found someone who we all agree to be trustworthy, they can backcheck the unsure results."

"I've got some gold to front too, don't ask how I got it. I think I'll give it to B, since she seems decent 'nuff. For a Paladin. Who's with me?"

"That's really suspicious. We have no way to trust anyone yet, so why are we pushing for one person to have such a powerful tool?"

Posted

"Pretty sure it'd be the person looking through the glass, Gramps..."

Precisely, and if it's them announcing the results, and the 'them' happens to be a Nephilim, they'd fully have the ability to lie, child. Hence my question if this would be announced as public knowledge or not.

I will give my gold, as it's the only lead we have, but I'm still hesitant on whether we can trust this or not.

"Yes... the Nephilim will greatly desire the glass. Maybe no one should get it? If we all agree for now not to use it, they will not be able to lie. And anyone caught buying it alone will be very suspicious, and we can all attack him/her. The only way to buy it is for us all to vote. That way we know who is using it, and with out consent."

How would that help? If this is like similar situations, the Nephilim know who they are; they won't buy a Magnifying Glass if we've agreed not to; they have no need of it. I highly doubt that would catch anyone. On the other hand, it could easily impede someone who actually is on our side and can purchase the tool, but wants to do so as quickly as possible without the scum knowing until the action is carried out.

"Kharybdis, that is actually incredibly clever."

"I meant, the scum might pool their gold to buy it, or get 1 person to do it, and get everyone to trust all the heroes pushing to buy it. Though I suppose you're right, coupled with the RNG plan."

"Because, Fangs, it's gotta go to somebody, and she's been really cautious about how we got about using the thing. You got any better ideas?"

"Jeez, you got back here quick. Nord duty fail to satisfy you?" the halfling grinned mischievously.

"Be, that may, caution, councilin', I am."

No, you're not; you're just agreeing with someone and then telling them not to mention the flaws in the plan — that's a great way to ensure that we don't see a flaw in a plan, especially since we were already discussing ways to counter possible scum responses to the plan... and it's also a way for you to seem more helpful when you're actually not doing anything to help.

I think using the Magnifying Glass is an ability, and I also notice that the word 'ability' has been used in reference to what results are posted even though it is then said in parentheses, "Day-actions" and "Night-actions", so it isn't quite clear what we are told and what we aren't.

As for passing the item, I don't see anything that says we can't do that in public, so we could insist that the item only be passed around in public, otherwise we attack the last one known to have been given the Magnifying Glass.

I would disagree. I'd want to RNG the list of our names in the first post myself, or have Brienne or someone who's been more sensible than you do it.

I disagree. You haven't done anything but agree with others, seemingly without listening to things relevant to what you're agreeing with, and try to appear more helpful that you are being.

I meant that if a Nephilim got the glass, he could publicly use it on another Nephilim, and tell us, "That guy's Town", then pass the magnifying glass to that guy, who would use it on another Nephilim, say "that guy's town", and so on.

Oh, yes, of course, let's not discuss the flaws in our plan, because then we know that the scum won't think of exploiting any flaws that are still in our plan because no one considered whether or not they were there because we haven't discussed them. :hmpf:

And by the way, telling someone that it would be dangerous to do something and telling someone not to do something is close to the same thing, except that the former allows you an escape where you don't have to technically be responsible for any advice or opinions you gave. :hmpf_bad:

Oh, got it, right; we do definitely need that list that everyone knows.

Now you're just claiming that you're trustworthy because of your backstory; it has (At least, it shouldn't, if this situation is set up correctly, as if this was some sort of game. ) no effect on your alignment.

"I like it. It may prevent us from investigating any particularly suspicious folk, but it's, like, totally perfect to prevent Nefflemem from messing around with things."
