Well if it's not, there's easily enough space for an XL. What motor drives the gear shifter?

There will be an M-Motor mounted elsewhere for gear shifting.

:classic: UPDATE :classic:

All functions tested and working (I guess you could say they're...functional  ). Swapped out the steering worm gear and replaced it with a gear train. Takes up more space but you guys were right, worm gears hold no place in crawlers.

So now it's time for the bodywork. Always the slowest part for me, and it's gonna be made even slower because of school.

Wow! It's really coming together well, and it looks great! You're not the only one who hates bodywork.

I didn't notice this before : shock absorbers should be mounted as in the Unimog from lego, to allow axle twist without bending them !

It becomes greater and greater by the way !

The shocks are fine, there's not enough suspension travel to severely bend/damage them.

Even so, with only one degree of freedom, it puts strain on pins, and eventually will affect the shock absorber. Besides, with multiple degrees of freedom, the suspension works better and more smoothly anyway.

Are you so sure? This is my crawler from a while ago and it seems to be the same setup as his

The pieces which the bottom of the shocks are attached to have to be able to move side to side and I think his crawler has this setup....if not then he definitely needs to make it that way.

That's a nice crawler you got there. And the shocks are fine, Technyk32231. Lego can take some abuse.

They don't seem to be..

Yes, I know that Lego can take some abuse, but the suspension will work much better with two degrees of freedom, and with only one degree of freedom, it puts more strain on the suspension when it tries to articulate, and when going over obstacles, it won't always even function properly.

Started work on the front body...

...and now I'm off to school. Slow building process ahead!

Bonnet is looking a bit monotonous imo, might want to spice things up a bit with decals of strips or whatever ;-)

Do you have an example of some pattern that would look good on this model? And I'm adding strips on the side, kind of like this:

Progress! Finally!

I've gotten opening doors installed (not quite the final design) and also started on the rear. Can't finish front wheel arches until I get the third party tires (hopefully will go tire shopping tomorrow). Also headlights aren't mounted to the body yet, still working on a fixture for some LEDs. Also, brush guard is a mock-up, not sure if I like the look of it.

Can you take a picture of the front wheel hubs? They look awfully familiar...

Is this what you wanted?

Wow, it's looking great! Is there going to be room for seats, etc.?

Yes, and I was wrong. I thought they looked like these: http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?i=5828870

BTW, nice job on the steering. :) Can the u-joints handle the torque? If not, you should either use portal hubs or planetary gears.
