Was this set known for having a BUNCH of extra parts?

Like two 7-stud axles, one each 4- 6- and 8- stud axles, two 11-stud lift arms, in addition to the usual assortment of pins and single-stud plates and tiles.

...and everything works...

Not according to BL. Those liftarms, especially, looks to be missing their place somewhere

Cabover twinsteer (wreckers or otherwise) that 42008 might have been 'inspired by':

Kenworth

Truckworks K200 Wrecker

Those liftarms might be the same ones I missed out of the gearbox in the chassis, with the result that the gears can slide out of mesh. Oops. I swear I followed the instructions, but anyway...

42008 looked really good in the marketing images. I liked the green, the looks, and the combination of functions. Having built the set, it's pretty meh. I don't like slagging the designer's work, but something doesn't gel about this one. My kids (2 and 4) were really obsessed by it initially, but haven't gone back to it. It's got limited playability - the spades are weak, the winch is fiddly and prone to binding, the controls are awkward, the pneumatics are underwhelming.

It doesn't help that it's up against the 8109 tilt-tray truck and 8285 wrecker, two of my favourite sets. It's not a terrible set, but nowhere near the playability of those sets. Nice green though and nice array of parts.

I agree wholeheartedly. The haphazard mix of pneumatics and LAs just combine to make one big, hard to control mess. Should've gone either all-out on pneumatics or all-out on LAs.

How odd...

You'd think that if I'd missed putting them in somewhere along the line, another part wouldn't be able to connect properly, but I had no problems at all during the rest of the build suggesting that I'd missed putting them in, and all of the functions work fine.

And then there's the 5 extra axles, too!

Weird. I'll be disassembling it shortly anyways for another project I'm thinking of.
