Posted September 14, 201311 yr Meet Delwyn. He's my entry in BZPower's System-Based Creations Contest #2: Build Free or Die Hard! Delwyn's a nice fellow, once you get to know him. Sometimes he gets a bit upset or angry, but he always means well. All images link to Flickr! A bit of backstory to this MOC: I've been trying to build a nice, streamlined human face on LDD for quite some time (I came up with the concept for the mouth, nose, and chin well over a year ago, though I changed the nose design slightly after the debut of the 1x2 bow element this year). I recently made some meaningful progress with this on LDD, which I posted to Flickr. Shortly thereafter I learned that BZPower was having a System-Based Creations contest, so I decided this fellow would become my entry. I ordered the parts I needed to build the head from Bricklink, so that I could experiment a bit more with the build in real life. After I experimented with coloring the hairline black, he started to resemble a ventriloquist's dummy, so that look inspired my design for the chest and shoulders. I was going to call him "Il Fantoccio" ("the puppet"), but decided that was not the best name since it was just a bust and not a complete or functional puppet. I ended up settling on a much sillier name that suited his comical appearance. Thanks for reading! I look forward to hearing people's thoughts on this MOC! Edited September 14, 201311 yr by Aanchir
September 14, 201311 yr Incredible! Such a great concept and your techniques are perfect! Good luck!
September 15, 201311 yr Fantastic! I've been trying to build something simular, but I couldn't fill all the gaps. Yours looks very sleek instead, and the curves are a great simplification of the human forms. The only section that could use some covering up, are the sides of the eyes (those look beautiful btw). The hair looks very flat, but I find that fitting for this MOC. I like the angled section there. So a very good build. One of the best realistic heads I've seen so far.

The sides of the eyes were a bit problematic for me. I couldn't find any way to cover them up without the parts used to cover them sticking out somewhat awkwardly. The contest ended a couple days ago, and I ended up tying for fourth place. I don't get any special recognition or prizes for that, but I'm still proud of how well I did since Delwyn was up against a lot of amazing MOCs! I went ahead and finished my digital model of Delwyn! Here's a screenshot: You can download the LXF file here. The only difference between the LXF and the physical model is that the LXF uses part 93571 instead of part 32174 for the eye sockets. I only wish 93571 were available in white! It would have helped make the black spots on the sides of the eye sockets a lot less noticeable.
