John Hill Posted September 17, 2013 Posted September 17, 2013 This might sound really weird but has anyone made a "vertical transverser"? (A horizontal transverser is a system where sections of track move horizontally to carry tramcars, locos and other rail vehicles between parallel tracks serving a purpose similar to a turntable.) In my case I have a special LEGO room that shares a wall with the garage and I would like to have a number of trains set up in the garage ready to go through a hole in the wall out into the "real" LEGO world! I could use a few switches and have about four storage tracks in the garage (or even a regular style transverser) but space in the garage is limited. So, the notion is that several tracks could be mounted on a frame attached to the wall so that it could be moved up or down to bring the desired train to the level of the track going through the wall. Has anyone seen such a system? Quote
dundarach Posted September 17, 2013 Posted September 17, 2013 John I've planned a wagon lift, a crude crane based lift...if I can build it would be another thing... Quote
AC_ Posted September 17, 2013 Posted September 17, 2013 Not seen a Lego version, but I do recall seeing a system for model railways for sale somewhere online. I can't find where I saw it at the moment other than a reference to a german company, but the link doesn't work. I have found this though. Don't know if it'll be any use to you; http://www.rosewarnejunction.me.uk/VerticalTraverser.htm Quote
JopieK Posted September 17, 2013 Posted September 17, 2013 Well, there are people that created one... The German term is: "schiebebühne": (Dutch:) http://legotreinforu...brug-t1527.html http://www.brickshel...lidingPlatform/ So I think that answered your question. The English term is "Transfer table": http://en.wikipedia..../Transfer_table Apart from that, we welcome you to the Train forum, but be careful that you don't act like a 'gatling gun' and open new topics without searching etc (http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?app=core&module=search&do=search&fromMainBar=1). MAke sure you also introduce yourself in the Train Tech forum and at EB general of course :) Quote
John Hill Posted September 17, 2013 Author Posted September 17, 2013 Thanks for the comments and advise everyone and especially to AC_ as that link is exactly what I have in mind! Quote
Bamos Posted September 17, 2013 Posted September 17, 2013 (edited) There was one in a back issue of Model Railroader and this page has instructions and a wiring diagram. http://southpacificl...ain-ho-elevator We call them elevators in the U.S. Transfer tables are side to side. Bill Edited July 18, 2015 by JopieK Typo: eletators -> elevators Quote
JopieK Posted September 18, 2013 Posted September 18, 2013 That is indeed different from the traditional horizontal one's :) sorry my mistake... Quote
paul_delahaye Posted September 18, 2013 Posted September 18, 2013 James May built one of these on an episode of ManLab to get his model train upstairs, obviously not out of Lego bricks. Quote
JopieK Posted September 18, 2013 Posted September 18, 2013 I think the best solution would be: a. A Technic solution b. A non-LEGO solution Quote
Hrw-Amen Posted September 18, 2013 Posted September 18, 2013 It is an interesting thing to make, I could see one would be very useful to a lot of people with limited space. Quote
