Lyichir Posted June 1, 2014 Posted June 1, 2014 Aren't HF sets due to be released in August ? Anyways, wait for the reviews. I'm sure VBBN will post reviews of the new wave a couple of days / weeks before the official release date. Yeah, seeing as the winter wave was only released three months ago (at least in the U.S.), I think it's a bit too soon to expect the summer sets. August (the traditional release period for summer sets) seems likely. Quote
Aanchir Posted June 1, 2014 Posted June 1, 2014 Did anyone else notice that the new HF sets weren't added to LEGO.com today? I'm worried that they might have cancelled the last wave, especially since it seems like everything else was added. I noticed, but I wasn't really surprised. We already knew from Toy Fair that they were due for an August release in the US. And unlike the Chima, Ninjago, City, and Friends sets, we haven't caught so much as a glimpse of these sets in stores. So there wasn't really any reason to expect a June release like those other themes. I am a bit surprised at how MANY themes are getting a June release in Europe, but the reason is obviously to cash in on hype connected with the home media release of The LEGO Movie. In the U.S., however, it seems as though all of the themes that were delayed until March (most notably including Hero Factory, Chima, and Star Wars) will be getting an August release, in accordance with the usual release schedule. Kalhiki Posted June 2, 2014 Posted June 2, 2014 Combat Machine don't look too shabby. Same with the Queen Beast, actually. Thanks for the pics, Aanch! I guess my biggest complaint with the Queen is that it just looks like they gave up once they hit the legs. The rest is actually pretty cool. The others, my opinion remains. They look great, if you ask me. And just look at that artwork. I hope they keep that look for future waves. Quote
Agent Fusion Posted June 2, 2014 Posted June 2, 2014 Oooh, I'm loving this box/bag art. I hope the next animation uses a similar style it would take longer to make, though. Quote
Mutant Orc Posted June 2, 2014 Posted June 2, 2014 They look cool yeas. I've realized I'll get a Bulk with the crystal beast so I might not bother with the mech after all. They red beast looks OK. I'll get it for the head and that, but there is a sad lack of plates there it seems. And the queen's legs do look a bit funny in the way they look like they're from another creature and stuck on the bottom; it's the way it looks about the connection. Like the torso/legs are meant to be separate... Thanks for the photos. Quote
Aanchir Posted June 2, 2014 Posted June 2, 2014 I dunno, I'm quite fond of Queen Beast's legs and how they're attached. Initially I was rather put off by the fact that the front legs are shorter than the back legs, but I realized that this is probably to make posing them easier. I won't be able to know whether making all four legs the same length is a worthwhile improvement until/unless I get the set. Still haven't committed to getting that one, since my brother and I already have the Furno and Evo mini-heroes and there are so many other sets competing for our attention, but it wouldn't surprise me if we end up picking that one up eventually. Tunneler Beast indeed doesn't have a lot of shells, but keep in mind that this is the largest $10 set by piece count and it DOES include lots of other useful parts in very useful quantities (including seven Bright Red Y-joints, six Dark Stone Grey 4M beams, four black talons, and two Dark Stone Grey pneumatic pieces to attach the fingers). I also think it's maybe one of the most elegant four-legged creatures in the theme to date. 19 points of articulation! Quote
Agent Fusion Posted June 2, 2014 Posted June 2, 2014 I agree, Tunneler Beast is great. I plan on converting him into a mini Red Queen (actually, that has quite a nice ring to it). Quote
Kalhiki Posted June 2, 2014 Posted June 2, 2014 The only thing that'd make Tunneler Beast better is if the cocoon leaf on his back was glow in the dark. Same with the Crystal Beast's quaza spikes. Quote
Aanchir Posted June 2, 2014 Posted June 2, 2014 Just found a watermark-free catalog image of the new sets here. In the lower right corner it includes our first glimpse of a combi model constructed from the three new beast sets! It appears to be a scorpion-like model with a cocoon at the tip of its tail. Pretty awesome! Quote
Vinyl Scratch Posted June 2, 2014 Posted June 2, 2014 Just found a watermark-free catalog image of the new sets here. In the lower right corner it includes our first glimpse of a combi model constructed from the three new beast sets! It appears to be a scorpion-like model with a cocoon at the tip of its tail. Pretty awesome! Oh dang for a second I thought you were talking about 2015 sets. Got excited a bit haha. That stinger tail looks weird, but looks like a solid combiner. Quote
Kalhiki Posted June 2, 2014 Posted June 2, 2014 Oh man. Return of the Zivon! But seriously, that looks sweet. Probably the most cohesive combi this year. Also, the tail makes me wonder if the cocoons can stay in a flipped open position. That would be neat. Quote
Shakar Posted June 2, 2014 Posted June 2, 2014 Oh, a scorpion! Haven't thought of that. But still, looks pretty great. Looking forward to see how it's built. And the three Beasts on their own are looking sweet. Loving the colours, the designs and the head prints soo much. I think the Beasts are my favourite HF villains to date. They're so varied yet consistent in style, and they just look so dang cool and menacing. Quote
Zenerius Posted June 3, 2014 Posted June 3, 2014 (edited) HOLY CRAP THAT COMBO MODEL. It's so cool. I love it. Now I want all the beast sets. Lego really kicked it up a notch for combos this year. The Chima 2014 ones are alot better than their first wave. Let's hope this trend continues! Edited June 3, 2014 by Zenerius Quote
Shakar Posted June 3, 2014 Posted June 3, 2014 Through Google Images reverse search, I found bigger pics of the Queen! No sign of the other sets though. Yeah, I'm wondering what the heck's up with that "translation" as well. Piattaforma di strategia? Wut? http://www.amazon.it/Factory-QUEEN-PIATTAFORMA-STRATEGIA-Bestia/dp/B00HUN0KF0 http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/71kMTZNCm1L._SL1300_.jpg http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/81xku7ZVLsL._SL1080_.jpg (the other two images are the same as these but of worse quality) Quote
Aanchir Posted June 3, 2014 Posted June 3, 2014 Great pics, Shakar! Incidentally, has anyone realized how PERFECT these cocoons would be for the Daikau plants from BIONICLE's first year? Not big enough to swallow a Matoran whole, but certainly big enough to grab one! Quote
Kalhiki Posted June 3, 2014 Posted June 3, 2014 Thanks for the pics. Definitely getting the Queen, but it'll need some modding. I think my biggest problem is the front legs. I feel that if they were raised a bit to be more in line with the rest of the abdomen, it would seem more whole and complete. How it is, the front legs look like they're just growing out of a stalk on its belly. And that may be due to how the lower body is built as well. It leaves a gap between the two pieces of cladding on the stomach and leg connection. But that may change when I see her in person. Also, I feel like making some uber super mech out of all the machines from waves 1 and 2 once I get them. And make a super beast as well. Just for kicks. Quote
Mutant Orc Posted June 3, 2014 Posted June 3, 2014 I think her torso just looks very long in comparison. I'm sure I'll like her when i get her...if I get her...I spend quite a bit though on Lego, often, so I probably will. And yes, I suppose Tunneler Beast is pretty cool. You managed to convince me to like it just as much as I did before I saw the lack of plates- it is nice as it is! Quote

I'm sure VBBN will post reviews of the new wave a couple of days / weeks before the official release date. Hey don't count on it; I've been fortunate this year so far but it's not a guaranteed thing every time around Great pics, Shakar! Incidentally, has anyone realized how PERFECT these cocoons would be for the Daikau plants from BIONICLE's first year? Not big enough to swallow a Matoran whole, but certainly big enough to grab one! I thought of that as well. And I would guess you could take the petals and build a larger cocoon if you wanted it to be more in proportion of a matoran. Quote
8BrickMario Posted June 4, 2014 Posted June 4, 2014 (edited) The Queen Beast looks great. But Stormer's position on the set art looks really creepy, considering where the leaf pod is. Edited June 4, 2014 by 8BrickMario Quote
ZORK64 Posted June 4, 2014 Posted June 4, 2014 The Queen Beast looks great. But Stormer's position on the set art looks really creepy, considering where the leaf pod is. Thanks for pointing that out, now I see it too. ... Uhm... ANYWAY, I'm still really psyched for Tunneler and Crystal Beast. Both look pretty great, and I'm looking forward to get Surge and Bulk, as their heads will be also very useful for my Transformers MOCs. I'm kinda unsure about the remaining sets. Maybe I'll pick up Breez, but perhaps I'll settle for Flyer Beast instead. Quote
8BrickMario Posted June 4, 2014 Posted June 4, 2014 Sorry, I don't usually point out stuff like that, but someone else was bound to. I don't know how to feel about Tunneler and Crystal. Splitter and Queen are the best Beasts, in my opinion. Quote
Shakar Posted June 5, 2014 Posted June 5, 2014 (edited) Indeed, Stormer being inside of her abdomen doesn't make much sense aside from being another play feature. You can pretend she ate him, but if you apply some logic it seems like he's ripping her abdomen open.. yikes. Anyway, looking forward to the cocoon leaves. They seem like awesome pieces to give characters an alien, bizzarre look. Like plant/animal hybrids. Sorry, I don't usually point out stuff like that, but someone else was bound to. I don't know how to feel about Tunneler and Crystal. Splitter and Queen are the best Beasts, in my opinion. Splitter Beast is a great idea (even if I reworked the two halves into two separate Beasts, it still stands as a cool feature), but the colour scheme leaves something to be desired IMO: the orange Beast's head and the cladding should be in the same colour, and the titanium metallic should disappear. My judgement is somewhat biased because I heavily modified Splitter Beast to the point they're, head aside, two completely different creatures. And I plan to do the same to Tunneler and Crystal. But my ranking, with the sets out of the box, is probably this: 6)Flyer Beast- nice overall look, but the awful wings and weak left arm make him drop to the bottom. 5)Jaw Beast- great little scout set, but there are overall cooler sets. 4)Splitter Beast- he would've probably been second place if he had a different colour scheme, because there are very little design problems otherwise. But...he doesn't, so he loses to 3 and 2. 3)Tunneler Beast- original design, great colour scheme (different than the other Beasts, sure, but I love red+lime), awesome head print. But again, there are bigger, more striking sets. 2)Crystal Beast- I love this guy. He looks menacing, regal and has a totally awesome colour scheme and a great head print. And I can't wait to get some black/lime Quaza. Aside from the rather short limbs, he's basically perfect 1)Queen Beast- despite the wings (still better than FB's), and some other design issues, she's just awesome. Possibly my favourite large HF villain so far. So, well, she wins. Of course this might change. I wish we got less Machines and more Beast though- the 1:1 villains-heroes ratio of 2012 (and 2013, Jet Rocka aside) was perfect. *I cannot stress how much bright orange and tr. reddish orange clash- they're NOT the same shade like tr. light blue+azure! Tr. reddish orange is closer to red, while bright orange is closer to the sadly underused tr. flame orange. Edited June 5, 2014 by Shakar Quote
DraikNova Posted June 5, 2014 Posted June 5, 2014 (edited) I tried using orange in place of tr. orange on Splitter Beast. It looks horrible; the translucence is necessary to balance out the vibrant hues of the rest of its colorscheme. Anyway, I am highly amused by how unimpressed people seem to be about the summer wave. So far, it seems like one of the best waves of HF to me, and quite possibly the best. As such, my current plans are to buy one each of the mechs, along with the following assortment of the Beasts (including the ones that I've already bought): 9x Jaw Beast 3x Flyer Beast 2x Splitter Beast 3x Tunneler Beast (so that I have a full cocoon) 6x Crystal Beast* 4x Queen Beast As you can probably tell, I'm spending all of my LEGO budget on Hero Factory this year. *I may change my decision about this one, considering the amount of tr. pieces available from the Chima sets. I will be getting at least three, as I need their heads for a MOC. Edited June 5, 2014 by DraikNova Quote
VBBN Posted June 5, 2014 Posted June 5, 2014 3x Tunneler Beast (so that I have a full cocoon) You're getting him purely for the fact of making a full cocoon? I'd think with how many other beasts you are getting you'd have a bunch as it is (IMO his selling point looks to be all of those red sockets, a good amount in a small set.) Quote
