Look at Splitter Beast's bag and look closely at Evo. There's some kind of a pin sticking out of his back, which goes in a hole at the back of the cockpit piece,

Other than the pin on the back, if you look at the bag art of FJM, you can see that he's gripping on handles made out of Exo-Force arms that are connected to the cockpit piece.

which means there are two different ways to attach the minifig. interesting. using the method mentioned by Lockon, we'll most likely be able to put regular minifigs in there too. if this is the case, then we probably can remake exo-force mechs using ball-joint system.

I've tried putting a figure into the seat and clipping the handles on the hands. Very sweet and easy fit. Comparing to how cumbersome it usually is to fit a handlebar or similar to a regular minifigure, this is heaven.

Sadly I will wait a while to get these new sets, first I need to get the 2013 sets in multiple amounts, at sale in the new year. I can not have too many bones and shells. But maybe I'm lucky and get a 2014 set for christmas

Hey Lyichir, if ever possible, could you provide us with the .lxf of that build? I'm sure most of us are curious as to how the set is put together. I myself am testing out some different builds, but from this, I cannot see how the torso is built.

He's a part designer for Lego. Even if he doesn't own the sets, I'm sure he can get access to the new parts.

If you insist! Here it is. It's not the cleanest (the extra parts in the back are either parts that can't be added without parts that aren't there, or placeholders I used to get closer to the right part count, and I just noticed I failed to add a placeholder for the cockpit piece itself). There are some parts I'm unsure about (it's impossible to know what's inside the waist, for instance, and I'm still not totally convinced that the "T" liftarms are used in dark grey to attach the containment unit). But it should give you a good idea of how the set seems to go together.

So... This is basically Hero Factory Pacific Rim.

Awesome, can't wait to pick these up. Are the mini hero heads compatible with minifigs? because I can think of so many custom figs I want to make with them.

Posted

everybody said that these hero factory vibe give a huge vibe of pacific rim. sure, the monster looked like kaiju, i guess. but the mech, rather than jaeger, they actually reminded me to exo-force mech more.

I just meant the concept of monsters coming from beneath and building mechs to fight them, the mechs themselves do give off a very exo force vibe. One of the reasons I like them

Thank you Lyichir, and thank you Takanuinuva for the cockpit. Sadly I can't fit the cockpit in on this, but the torso build allowed me to accomplish...............

THIS: (w/ original legs for comparison)

And......... the lxf for those who want it.

I never understood the fascination with dissecting every little bit of the sets before they're out. Must make it really boring to actually own the sets.

I was sure I didn't want Evo XL. But now that I see it from different angles... I may actually consider it. I'll wait for a review, though. The legs really hurt the figure for me.

Not necessarily. I built Dragon Bolt on LDD long before he came out in stores because I was fascinated with his build and wanted to find out exactly how it works. Also, building a model on LDD presents the opportunity to view it from different angles than you see in Toy Fair photos or official product shots. It didn't reduce my enjoyment of the actual set at all — Dragon Bolt was still amazingly fun to build and play with.

Same goes for the skeleton of Furno Jet Machine. It was pure curiosity that led me to try and build it in real life — I'd never seen a torso skeleton built that way and I wanted to see just how sturdy it was (answer: very sturdy). Plus, seeing just how a model is built gives us something more to discuss as we try to pass the time before the sets are actually released, and provides ideas for MOCs to build in the meantime.

Naturally, I don't try to build EVERY set before it's released, just the ones with builds that particularly interest me.

I wanted it so I could plan my improvements ahead of time.

Lol. Read some books or watch a movie. Whatever.

IMO, the big yellow mech reminds me that one which was used in Alien movies. A cargo mech with claws. They must have been inspired by it.

I can understand Jetrax. Planning mods on LDD is the best thing to do for me, since you know in advance the pieces you need (and BL the ones you don't have yet).

Set the compatibility mode to zero. I used to have the same problem, then I messed with the settings and stumbled upon that. Works like a dream now.

I was very happy when I got my new computer (a MacBook Pro) last year and could experience the more advanced graphic options, like outlines on bricks, for the first time. Nowadays my LDD almost never crashes except sometimes when I am using the flex tool. I imagine a Windows machine with a really good graphics card could also run some of the more advanced graphical options, but I've never been much of a tech guy so I can't say what options would be most effective for their cost (certainly I'd never have gone with the "expensive new computer" route if it hadn't been a requirement for the academic program I was in).

But yeah, the lower graphic options make it run a lot better on more devices, though you still want to save frequently in case the software DOES crash.

Finalized pics of 44015 and 44016 apparently just showed up recently:

Turns out Jaw Beast's 3M bones ARE transparent. Guess I was wrong! Interesting how his torso is armored — the main torso shell goes on his back, and he has a printed 3M shell on his chest. Hard to tell if any of the shells on his legs and arms are printed.

Also interesting that the build for Evo Walker is so custom! I expected it to at least use a torso beam, but nope, it doesn't! Of course, I hope that the build is still sturdy enough that it's not awkward to play with — seems like the alignment of the cannon and cockpit could be thrown off very easily.
