CabooseBM Posted January 11, 2014 Posted January 11, 2014 (edited) I'll be quite honest, if the Invasion from below cast was mixed in with the cast from the previous cast, then this would be perfect. The VAs from Invasion are good, Breez having the best. Surge's voice was different, but fit in nicely. The rest were, monotonous, and very bland, much like the plot. Problem-answer to problem-problem solved. Nothing else. Both pleased and disappointed with Invasion. Yeah, they seemed to fix the voices I didn't like before, and then made everyone else generic and boring to make up for it. And they even went and changed Bulk's race while they were at it. The plot was pretty lame too. Edited January 11, 2014 by CabooseBM Quote
Dorek Posted January 11, 2014 Posted January 11, 2014 I guess it's time for me to get back into the loop. I'll watch the episode soon enough, but first... NEW AND RESPONSIVE WEBSITE AHHHHH SO MUCH BETTER Quote
Bob C Posted January 11, 2014 Posted January 11, 2014 The faces scared the hell out of me - for some reason it doesn't match the voice (which is quite bad itself). It seems more like a 22-minute advertisement of the heroes rather than an episode. There's also almost no suspense. The invaders arrive, the beasts arrive, and the omnipotent heroes fight them. Quote
Vinyl Scratch Posted January 11, 2014 Posted January 11, 2014 It seems more like a 22-minute advertisement of the heroes rather than an episode. That's... Kind of the objective for the episodes, isn't it? Advertising the Hero Factory sets? Quote
TheRedGuy Posted January 11, 2014 Posted January 11, 2014 Just saw the episode, there seems to be about 99% more mass murder than any of the other episodes. Also, the voice acting is some of the best acting I've heard in my life. Quote
Kalhiki Posted January 11, 2014 Posted January 11, 2014 Another pacing issue that bothered me is that at many points, it felt like a more involved and memorable musical score would have been more appropriate to maintain appropriate rising and falling action. Even moreso than the Hero Factory series as a whole, the music felt generic and forgettable. There were no distinctive or iconic themes that stuck with me, unlike Ninjago or the original BIONICLE movie trilogy. It's a new composer for this episode: Simon Ravn. Whereas David and Eric Wurst did the music for the other episodes. Don't know if that plays a part in a sub-par soundtrack, but whatever. New animation, voice actors, composer. Changes everywhere. Oddly enough, you can still hear the main theme from the previous episodes in the intro. Thought that was a nice inclusion. Quote
Dorek Posted January 11, 2014 Posted January 11, 2014 I actually thought the soundtrack was pretty good, if a bit understated. Honestly, my biggest complaint would be too much dialogue. It's sort of the dilemma of forcibly inducting me into the new voices (which I did get used to by the end, so I suppose it works) vs letting the dialogue constantly remind me that these aren't the voices I'm used to. The whole episode was just a mass of exposition, which really interfered with the phenomenal art direction. Aside from that, I enjoyed it more than I thought I would. The voices weren't so bad, the sound effects were great, and the story hit all the right beats and even included nods to previous arcs. It was kind of silly that the battle machines were ultimately pretty disposable, but I guess that's what happens with a 22 minute runtime. Quote
Antrozek Posted January 11, 2014 Posted January 11, 2014 wow this episode was bland. weak script. terrible choice of voices. suddenly Furno is a hardened veteran, Surge is an aussie while Evo and Bulk are running a radioconference. Breez and Stormer voices were a bit in touch with their characters. IF they were kept in characters. Evo was given a total recharacteriation again. if that can even be called that way. terrible plot turnaround in the end. I decided that maybe I found this uninteresting because im older than the the target audience. but a friend of mine showed it to kids in her school. and everyone was so uninterested. while the action was okay,it was too hard to follow. EVERYTHING was hard to follow I praise the animation done with the small budget they surely had to work with. the enviromental design was great. thanks again to the conceptual artists. such as Faber. sadly that's just it. It really seemed like it could have been a really good episode. and turned out as bland as Brain attack. just with better action. I loved how Breez talked the problem out of the beast. and then after everything went caboots because one of the bugs. she and the other just went "OH OKAY. HEY EVERYONE. YOU'RE SAFE. JUST DONT GO MAKING ANY MORE HOLES KAY? *WINK*" like if nothing happened. I am really glad how they actually took off their helmets at the end. wish the faces werent so unexpressive, but I guess that Ghost and Advance didn't had much design freedom in the end. Quote

Aethersprite Posted January 11, 2014 Posted January 11, 2014 I will provide a link to my photostream that will show the new summer sets I saw in the movie. There are approximately 54 photos, and I apologize if some look blurry or low-quality. I took these pictures on my iPad. Thanks, these are great! I'm so glad Surge's machine doesn't look to have gold on it apart from the Rocka minifig. Quote
Zachattacx Posted January 11, 2014 Posted January 11, 2014 Meh. I mean I really did enjoy the new voices, especially with the wallis talkie effect they had. Totally reminded me of the Mahri. But the VAs were just uninspired and sounded like they didn't have emotion or a care in the world. But then again...aren't robots like that? The plot was simple. But what are you going to get when a story revolves around Beasts destroying cities and everything in their way. Seems more or less like a Godzilla movie to me. :P The animation was glorious though. I really loved the fight scenes, and the landscapes from the different areas looked really cool! But the terrible voice actors(not voice) and kinda bland story killed it for me. Did I expect to much from this episode, I guess. But I can't fault them, I mean to fit this much stuff in a 22 minute long episode is quite a task. But then it just comes off as extremely rushed. IMO these episodes need to be longer...they just need to be. And it seems we got another plot hole... So Villain Factory Plans, Brains Underneath The City, and A Beast Coming to Makuhero City. I could say this might be leading up to something...but I'm not sure at all. Seems to be leading to one heck of a finale if all these plot holes finally come together. Quote

For this episode in particular, I think you could pass it off as a joke, maybe explain why you see a Jumper in Makuhero City at a later date. But the "villain factory" points are pretty specific lingering plot threads, I can't imagine they'd abandon it. Quote
McSmeag Posted January 11, 2014 Posted January 11, 2014 I've seen a lot of criticisms of this because allegedly, the heroes seem too violent. But at the same time, I think this deals with the episode quite effectively. Breez does turn out to be right in the end in deciding to negotiate with the queen instead of relying on force. I think it is likely that the queen and much of her brood did survive in the end. And I don't believe any of the actual beasts, even the jumpers, were lost to the acid. All we saw fall in the acid were cocoons, which hardly amounts to "genocide" like some critics on BZPower attest. To quote "some critics": "How the hell do you survive falling into a pool of acid, or at least being drained away to the same location as one? Besides, whether or not YOU, PERSONALLY, think they did or not does not change the fact that their status ranges from ambiguous to flat-out deceased. Even on-camera when Breez tells the other Heroes to drop the bridge, we see Beasts in the crystal cavern fall into the acid. "All we saw fall into the acid were cocoons" OK buddy, if infanticide isn’t enough for you, I don’t know what is." Just sayin.............................. Quote
BrickBuilder3213 Posted January 11, 2014 Posted January 11, 2014 http://www.pockyland.net/forum.php?mod=viewthread&tid=59473 This has scans of the retailer's catalog, one of which features a slightly better pic of the Queen Beast set! Looks like her horns ARE a new piece... I can't access the page. :c Could you upload the pictures to Brickshelf so that I can see them? Quote
DraikNova Posted January 11, 2014 Posted January 11, 2014 (edited) The Queen's wing pieces match those in the show exactly; semi-translucent blue segmented versions of the piece used to make Flyer Beast's wings. Also, the colors seem to indicate the Queen's lower jaw and the bionicle hand pieces used to connect the "spikes" to the wing bones all seem to be Earth Blue or some darker shade than the Azure ones we've gotten earlier. Too bad we only have one pic showing only part of the Queen. What we can see (yellow Savage Planet multi-spike/scale armor add-on!) looks amazing and it's not even a whole set. Also, why are so many people hating the faces? They all look a little too much like the Bionicle Legend Reborn ones (and Stormer's reminds of his 3.0 form for some reason), but they're not that bad. Timeline15 Posted January 11, 2014 Posted January 11, 2014 oh, another issue I noticed. Breez tells Evo to push the bridge into the acid, evo does it, and bulk says "good idea Evo". Seriously? -_- Quote

coolcab1 Posted January 11, 2014 Posted January 11, 2014 I just realized why hero factory might end in 2015 it is because of us, we literally kill the franchise we put all these negative comments about what they did wrong not what they did right It is not because of sales but because of us. I hope you understand. Quote
Logan McOwen Posted January 11, 2014 Posted January 11, 2014 Soooo... Are these beasts robots? Or are they Lego's usual i-swear-we-aren't-robots-we-are-biological-i-promise kinda thing? Quote

Also, I just noticed that Evo's underground walker seems to have a Trans-Yellow windscreen. If it is the case, that would be great. Quote

They have scales and (and this is surprisingly enough true to reality) can take far greater punishment than the robots. Also, they hatch out of eggs, so it's pretty clear they're either organic or are robots which are designed to have lifecycles similar to organic creatures. Quote
