Crystal Beast: CONSIDER IT BOUGHT!!

Tunnel beast: awww. co cute. probably the first small set of the summer wave that I'll get.

Flea Machine: basically Evo walker, with a slightly better design, colour I like better, and pilot I like better.

Drill Machine: looks pretty cool, just not massively exciting.

Digger machine: LEGO, why downgrade Rocka to a smaller mech when you could have given this to Stringer or Nex? -_-

Combat Machine: meh, may be good for pieces, but set looks like a moc. idk why, I just get that vibe.

Queen: love it. Plus, new gold pieces. Evo's spider is better than his walker. Plus the cocoons are cool. Wish the Queen herself was bigger though, rather that them just including a small machine to bump up the piece count. I miss the days of truly massive sets, guess they didn't sell well or something, but I would love a Skopio scale set for HF.

All the sets are just awesome.

Not really all, because Surge Combat Machine is the worst thing, because one of the big reason is THOSE LEG ARE HORRIBLE, i mean look at them, i don't beleave that will walk at all and i don't know if it will be better with the jet back on but without it, it's not good at all and just make the set mad in my opinion.

My opinion! Those legs are fine.

Oh wow, I didn't realize just how huge the pictures were- even the phone's zoom in didn't do them justice!

I can see a few things more clearly. The Queen DOES use a cocoon as abdomen- which does go well with her wings. She also has a chain on the staff tip so to limit how much the blades can open, and another blade on the other end (good thing!): overall, a pretty good staff IMO.

The cocoon halves (thirds?) look much more interesting than I thought. I like the color variations and the overall shape. Draiknova( I believe) pointed out a few pages ago that they could be useful for plant-like characters, and I do agree. While they limit the pieces budget like the Brains did, there is no contest on which are more useful pieces: the Brains were completely useless, while these do have quite the potential (and the fact they're already being used in two completely different ways- as cocoons and as body parts- shows it).

Other details. Well, the new printed shells for Combat M. and Drill M. look fantastic and I can't wait to see the one(s?) on Flea M. . Crystal Beast's limbs are the second shortest ones afterall (just like in the movie), they're tr, light blue and not azure though (I was looking forward to those- oh well, they're still useful)- which means that yes, he's kinda small (though I guess his long necks makes up for that). I was looking forward to seeing which colours Surge's and Bulk's heads are, too bad we can't see anything. On a final note, I'm surprised no set uses the new claws from Chima..ah well.

Oh, and the new Chima and Ninjago sets bring some interesting recolours that can definitely be useful for HF. The obvious ones from the CHI figures aside, there are:

Gold Rocka blades

Keetorange paws and wing pieces in a new colour (sand purple? Dark bley?)

Dark red wing pieces and (maybe) a new colour for the Zamor spheres (keetorange?)

Zamors in a new blue/white mix! Those look so pretty!

Crystal Beast has a tr. light blue jaw. Huh, might be interesting (especially if used for the tail of a creature as in the winter combiner). Also, 4m bones in tr. light blue, but no sign of the new Chima claws, which would be a perfect fit. The new variation of Quaza spike is nice, however, and I definitely didn't expect it to be lime (which, while it doesn't make the set look better on it's own, will make MOCcing with it much more fun).

I like the Surge&Rocka Machine even more, although it hasn't really changed. It is and was pretty much perfect anyway.

The Breez Anchor Machine is one of the best of the wave, and while I don't like the use of SILVER (always with the metallics, LEGO. What is it about metallic colors that always disrupts a good colorscheme?) bohrok eyes, the set is pretty great.

Bulk's Driller is more or less identical to LEGOJang's version, although it does not seem to have an incredibly hollow-looking beam connection. It will be interesting to see how that's done.

Tunneler Beast is nice and simple, pretty much perfect for it's size. The cocoon piece seems a bit too large to fit on him comfortably, but you can see Surge's new helmet; a little too squashed-down, perhaps.

Rocka is again, pretty much identical to LEGOJang's interpretation.

The Queen is beautiful, although the most interesting parts are obscured. The wing construction looks as badly as it does because of poor posing, from the look of it. Too bad it only includes one green cocoon (along with the blue one). The gold is far too shiny for the set's overall look.

The cocoons are apparently semi-transparent, which makes no sense, seeing as the show versions were completely opaque. Also, the bottom of the cocoon pieces are all black, which will reduce their usefulness.

Best of all, all of the sets have the other construction of claw, providing many sources of the pneumatic piece.

And, yes Shakar, I was the one who pointed that out.

In summation: this wave rocks.

I'm still torn about picking up a few sets from the current wave, and now we get the pics of the summer wave which look far more appealing to me.

Aside from Crystal Beast and his wonderful amount of trans-blue, I kinda like Bulk's tank cannon thingy, the Alien Queen and Surge's weird walker.

Two things I've noticed: massive usage of the Waspix connector (there are two in the Kaiju Queen alone (one for the walker, one for the Queen and possibly one more for her wings) and that we can now make a nearly fully translucent creature, with only the torso bone and possibly the lower jaw being black.

Well I've decided on what sets I'll get from the Invasion From Below wave

All six Beast sets

Furno Jet Machine

Stormer Freeze Machine

Rocka Crawler Machine

I may get Breez Flea Machine and Bulk Drill Machine

These look stunning. Absolutely amazing.

I hate Bulk's Drill for some reason... I don't know why...

Tunneler Beast and Rocka's Climber look alright, but purchasable if I have the funds

Surge Battle Machine looks good. The main reason that we're complaining is that this is how it looks without Rocka's flyer attached. I may get this

Breez Machine, Crystal Beast, and Queen Beast are all MUST HAVES. They all look great (especially the beasts).

I never knew that the Queen had a god crown until I saw this then looked at the movie again. I hope that Breez's machine has a retractable anchor, and good to see all of that translucent on Crystal Beast.

My main question is:

Pros and Cons on either Tunneler and Rocka Climber or the Surge Battle Machine? I'm getting either the pair or the single.

Please help me on this! Thanks!

Hmm, so it looks like my focus for Summer sets will be NINJAGO, HERO FACTORY and the new Ultra Agents line.

Another thing, while very off-topic, I honestly hope they take the mini-movies or TV episodes back to whoever was previously doing them. While I love the new 20-minute one, I think we all know it fell short in terms of, well, a lot of things. I also hope next year they go back to the whole "hero vs criminal" plotline. It just featured more depth than Brain Attack or Invasion From Below, and it would probably give them a chance to explain what was going on at the end of Breakout. And if Brain Attack was the result of that, well, enough people have said why it was a terrible conclusion if so.

Anyway, back on-topic, these all look amazing. I wish they made more actual mechs, rather than crawlers, but it can't be helped at this stage in development, so I'm happy camper.

HELLA.

And thus you have summed up my thoughts.

But I'm just going to blather on anyway, so here we go!

Seriously though, can't believe we're getting a machine, three hero-figs, two cocoons, and the Queen Beast all in one set! Really like the cocoon as part of her body, and I can't help but feel reminded a little of Nocturn from the old days. You know, that guy under the sea that did the thing with the other thing. That guy.

I agree with whoever said the Combat Machine looks like someone's MOC. The front legs give me that impression for some weird reason. Still can't believe it's got six flick-fire missiles! Those rear feet don't look like they fit in right to me...

I wonder if Breez's Anchor Machine's anchor has a System winch on it? Would be cool. Bulk's Drill Machine looks okay, wonder if those leg cladding parts are printed? Really wish there'd be another set with 5M orange cladding..

Those other two smaller sets are cool too. I like that we're getting a red beast this wave, and another beastie with a transparent head!

Lots of shiny see-through action on that Azure one..

Most of these look really good. I really hope to see them on shelves and in reviews soon.. of course, I'm still waiting on the first wave to get to me, so there's that too

Tunneler Beast only has one cocoon piece, compared to the Walker's three, and the color seems slightly and strangely off somehow. However, you're going to be getting Rocka's new mech as well, which features three of the red cocoon pieces, which might help you mod Tunneler Beast a bit. However, whilst the first option gets you one more cocoon piece, blue is a much rarer color than either black, gold or red, and is often useful if you want to avoid or tone down the infamous "so much fluorescent/translucent pieces it burns out my eyes"-effect. So it really depends on what you want.

EDIT: Zoom in as far as you can onto Tunneler Beast's middle pair of legs. See? There's something that looks like a 4m bone, but with two ball joints. I'm probably just looking at a normal 3m bone wrong, though.

Does anyone know what material the cocoon is? It looks like goo but that would be megabloks-ish.

I think it's like the same rubbery plastic the brains were molded in. That'd make them flexible enough to get the Heroes or jumpers in or out I think.

So. Amidst all the news of new toys, it seems this slipped under the radar:

The US Toys R Us site has some of the new sets online. Can't order them yet, but it says they're sold in stores. Hopefully I'll be able to go there if the weather's decent to see if they're there. I have my doubts, but their appearance on the site makes me hope they'll be worming their way out into stores soon (pre-March 1st, that is).

Posted (edited)

TRU does tend to get them a bit earlier, but there were a few sites that uploaded them ahead of the release date (possibly before being informed of the date change?), so I wouldn't put much stock in it. I imagine around mid-to-late February is when we'll start seeing stores get them in.

It's always funny to me how street dates for LEGO aren't taken nearly as seriously as, say, books or video games.

If you look at the packaging of the Kaiju Queen, you can see that the edges of the cocoon can be folded aside, which means it's a flexible plastic, far more so than the brain material if I'm any judge.

The beast heads look so much better with the larger piece on the bottom, glad all of them have that setup in the summer wave. Still haven't picked up any of this year's HF stuff, but that summer wave is looking really nice, with the cocoon pieces and everything.

Does that mean it's more flexible? Or does it just mean it's thinner? Even the flexible tails of the brains were pretty heavily reinforced, which made it somewhat difficult to pose the figures they were attached to at times. A thinner, sheetlike part made in that material could very well have the kind of flexibility necessary to be folded down.

It could very well be a different material (lord knows Lego has options), but I was just giving an example of the kind of material that might work.

Even though the sets haven't made it to Arizona yet I've decided to still buy all of this years sets! they are so cool and MiniFig Heroes :wub_drool: are awesome! Now my Uni-Kitty can be saved from the "Antropolis Beast"! Anyways I kinda was hoping for the return of "The Brains" because they are still kinda a threat to Hero Factory but then again LEGO tries to freshen up the story but this year is still cool too. Again I'm planing to buy all Invaision From Below sets plus some extas for MOCs
