ShadowWolfHount Posted February 3, 2014 Posted February 3, 2014 It sounds like you got a pretty good deal, LewiMOC, as those are some of the most useful parts of those respective sets. Anyway, my current plans are: Jaw Beast: 4x (maybe 5x if I'm lucky) Flyer Beast: 2x Splitter Beast: 2x Each one of the hero sets: 1x Crystal Beast: 3x (maybe 4x) Tunneler Beast: 1 or 2x Queen Beast: 3x Well i going to get almost 2 of all of this year HF sets, but I am only be getting one Evo Walker because it the worst one and don't have that much of good parts and it looks really bad but I'll be getting a lot (and i mean a lot) of Jaw Beast because you know me, I Love Purple . Quote
DraikNova Posted February 3, 2014 Posted February 3, 2014 (edited) Yeah, I'm a sucker for purple too. But mostly I need him to be capable of building a giant azure/tr. light blue cocoon for my revamped Kaiju Queen. What do you think the diameter of the bottom of cocoons is, anyway? My guess is 3 centimeters. Edited February 3, 2014 by DraikNova Quote
ShadowWolfHount Posted February 3, 2014 Posted February 3, 2014 my guess is 4 centimeters Also good luck on that Kaiju Queen revamp Quote
VBBN Posted February 3, 2014 Posted February 3, 2014 Well the caccoons seem a bit big in comparison to the beasts set wise as compared to the episode so you may be better off using the standard sized caccoon with the revamped queen. Quote
Aanchir Posted February 3, 2014 Posted February 3, 2014 Thanks Leewan! Yeah, but it's strange how few uses I've found for the XT4 torso. It's shape makes it hard to use for adding back armor (although that may just have to do with my deficit of armor shells), and the "axles" that connect the shoulder balljoints to the main body make attaching more parts horizontally rather than vertically impossible. The Queen, however, uses this part to great effect. It's definitely a useful part in my opinion. I have used it for feet on Koboldon and Caitlyn Gauss XL, for a torso on Unikitty's Chicken Walker and Geiger Tiger, and for connecting additional torso armor on Poison Dart. I also used it either as a torso beam or as connection points for back armor on various creature MOCs. am i the only one here who never have double for each sets? I rarely do. I have some duplicate sets that I won as contest prizes, but I plan to keep one signed set unopened and haven't decided what to do with the unsigned sets. One of them, Dragon Bolt, is such an excellent set that I'm somewhat inclined to give it to a friend so they can enjoy it for themselves. Quote
DraikNova Posted February 3, 2014 Posted February 3, 2014 (edited) Actually, the first double I ever got was a priced-down XT4, before buying Dragon Bolt in tripl quadruplicate. Anyway, for a 1:6 up-scaling of the Queen, would a 20 cm base for the cocoon seem reasonable? Edited February 3, 2014 by DraikNova Quote
CabooseBM Posted February 4, 2014 Posted February 4, 2014 I really wish I had bought more copies of Drilldozer, considering his upper torso piece is still exclusive to him. I only have two! =C Quote
DraikNova Posted February 4, 2014 Posted February 4, 2014 Really? I have only found one use for it so far, and I found a better way that didn't use it within a quarter of an hour. Quote
Mandate Posted February 5, 2014 Posted February 5, 2014 Interesting thing I just noticed. Since Breakout, we've had a "hint" of sorts to the next plotline of HF... or there's just been incredibly coincidental things. What I mean is, in Secret Mission #2, it was said that Thresher retired and became a security guard (well, something like that) on a research facility to do with protection from mind control. The next plot for HF? Mind-controlling brains (from outer space ), and at the end of Brain Attack (this one is more likely a coincidence) there was the whole fixing-up-underground thing, which is kinda odd, seeing as we never saw the Heroes fighting in that kind of environment, and as far as I know it was never mentioned in the books (haven't read Brain Attack Secret Mission books, sorry). Probably completely false, but still, just something to note. Can't find any links between Ordeal of Fire to Savage Planet, or Savage Planet to Breakout, so it probably is false. Or we're just getting another bunch of seperate-plots next year (which wouldn't be too bad, actually) seeing as I can't find anything abnormal about IFB so far Quote
Zenerius Posted February 5, 2014 Posted February 5, 2014 Or we're just getting another bunch of seperate-plots next year (which wouldn't be too bad, actually) Hmmm.... The images that come to mind..... This would be kind of intriguing, actually. Since it hasn't been done with Hero Factory yet (and maybe even Bionicle) it will be pretty interesting to see how it pans out in the end. Maybe they will do this for the final year? Quote
Lyichir Posted February 5, 2014 Posted February 5, 2014 I really wish I had bought more copies of Drilldozer, considering his upper torso piece is still exclusive to him. I only have two! =C Aanchir and I bought a bunch of those torso armor pieces at Brickfair a few years back. Believe me, you aren't missing much. Because they cover up most of the best connection points on the torso, it's hard to use a single one of them creatively on a model, let alone multiples. Quote
Dorek Posted February 5, 2014 Posted February 5, 2014 A good carpenter never blames his tools~ It's true that it covers up some connection points, but I just loved the overall look it had, and wished they had explored it a bit further. It was a nice compromise between the overly specific armor pieces of 2010 and the new plating system. Quote

It was a nice compromise between the overly specific armor pieces of 2010 and the new plating system. I like the look as well, and it has some versatility for sure, due to having connection points on not just the chest but also the shoulders. Other advantages to the part is that it allows the crotch to be lowered beneath the hips (if you used an 8M shell as the lower torso armor, as Drilldozer himself did) and that it provides a modicum of coverage for the back of the set. The way it connects to the torso (two ball snaps attached four modules apart) and the way it uses or covers so many connection points are really its major limiting factors. The fact that it only exists in one color is another issue, but I don't think it makes a whole lot of sense to create various recolors of a part that isn't very versatile in order to make it useful, when you could instead recolor parts that are useful and versatile to begin with. The main sets that I think it could have possibly improved are ones like Flyer Beast, Voltix, and Waspix that already use fairly generic torso designs. But adding a piece as bulky as that to those sets might mean cutting corners elsewhere in the design (not to mention having to redesign how things are attached to the backs of Flyer Beast and Voltix). The shape and proportions of Drilldozer's torso always reminded me a lot of the 2004 Knights' Kingdom constraction sets. Anyone else get that vibe, or is it just me? Quote

Considering that Flyer Beast already has a gimp arm, it's probably for the best =P. But yeah, it mostly just created a cool look as opposed to being supremely useful as a piece. I always liked that it paired well with the Hero chest plate, but then they stopped using that shortly after anyway and went with the Breakout torso armor (which ALSO pairs very well with the old chest plate). Couldn't say about Knights Kingdom, never got into that. Quote
CabooseBM Posted February 6, 2014 Posted February 6, 2014 Man, whether or not you guys can find uses for it, I want more. I need to build more fat robots. =V Quote

By "seperate plots" I meant like Ordeal of Fire, Savage Planet and Mission: Von Nebula (though I'm not sure if the last one really counts) in that they were short, one waved plots that introduced new heros to help flesh out and try new parts in different colors. I thought you meant having multiple story arcs in a single year/wave. In an unrelated note, I will be checking Toys R Us soon for the new HF sets, possibly over the weekend. Quote
Aanchir Posted February 6, 2014 Posted February 6, 2014 Perhaps I'm just out-of-the-loop and this isn't actual news, but club.LEGO.com has an inside scoop featurette about the sets, and the Hero Factory site has nine wallpapers based on the new TV episode. Kind of a surprise to see them on the U.S. version of the site since most of the sets aren't out over here yet! Quote
DraikNova Posted February 6, 2014 Posted February 6, 2014 That scoop lacks a forth wall. What kind of irresponsible person throws a minifig across a room anyway? Too bad we don't have a wallpaper of the locations themselves, though, just the actual scenes from the movie. Quote
Dorek Posted February 6, 2014 Posted February 6, 2014 The club scoop is pretty old (did I mention it? Seems like something I should have mentioned...) but the last three wallpapers are new; it was only up to 6 until just yesterday. Nothing much interesting in the new ones, though it is funny how Splitter Beast's model uses the "exo-force arm plus claw piece" combination, instead of the single claw piece it has in the set. Quote
Shakar Posted February 6, 2014 Posted February 6, 2014 I just realized, not only Tunneler Beast is the only one without azure whatsover, he's the only one without a printed shell (from what I can see). Which is a shame, I could've really used it. And I totally agree about the Drilldozer chest. I have two of them, and I really don't know what to do with them. One MOC of mine used it, in his first version (he's at his third one now)..I wanted him to look bulky, Core Hunter style, but it just didn't work. And looks like I'm not the only one who thought about the KK figures! Quote
BrickBuilder3213 Posted February 6, 2014 Posted February 6, 2014 Thinking about it, Crystal Beast will stand out pretty well with trans-bones and a trans-head. The only problem is that he'll stand out too much, being the only beast (except for Jaw Beast) to have trans-blue bones. Quote
ShadowWolfHount Posted February 7, 2014 Posted February 7, 2014 Me and Mephek was looking at products on the new Hero Factory site and if you look at Evo Titan Machine (still not calling it a XL) on 360, you can see that there is a White Jumper. We already know that there is not going to be one but I just like to show this little thing me and Mephek found. But from seeing this, I do like to see a white jumper. Quote
Aethersprite Posted February 7, 2014 Posted February 7, 2014 (edited) Just bought and built FJM today, and wow, I'm impressed. Not just by FJM's specialized build, but by how well the CCBS manages to pull off the mech feel. The new cockpit part integrates perfectly, and although I was a little annoyed by how hard it is to position the Herofig's hands on the controls perfetly, overall I'm in love with the set. Unfortunately this is going to be the only set I'm getting from this wave, going to be saving up for other themes and the summer Chima/HF wave. Looking forward to the summer HF walkers! EDIT: Just noticed that the blades on mine are a little bent (my first time owning this piece, I know...), does anyone know how to straighten these? Hot water perhaps?
