ReZourceman Posted January 29, 2014 Posted January 29, 2014 I would be really concerned to see what you people who do not like these designs would have dreamed up if you were in charge! The designs are modern, cool, bulky, dark, tough-looking and large! They are wicked. Shredder looks like the kind of guy that no one should mess with. What were you guys thinking? Really intrigued to see how LEGO handles the transition now! I am sure they'll look wicked. Quote
BrickG Posted January 29, 2014 Posted January 29, 2014 I was thinking something less ridiculous and over the top. I think it's so ridiculous and over the top it's stupid. Especially Shredder. Kind of comparable to the needlessly messy designs of many of the Transformers in his Transformer movies. More detail =/= better design. It's like sticking belts on every part of the body in the 90s comics. The turtles aren't that bad. They remind me more of Samurai than Ninja though. Also they're supposed to be like 15 last time I checked and now they're suddenly quite large and imposing. But again, not bad. Also more whitewashing going on in Hollywood. Shredder is Japanese. Splinter is Japanese. We literally suddenly have zero Japanese people :P. They've all been white-afied. Anyways back on topic... I'd suspect they could use all the existing molds for these guys, just with different printing. Maybe not though. Quote
Rinzler Posted January 29, 2014 Posted January 29, 2014 More likely just part of the prelim-ness of the picture. I don't think they'd throw in a reference to the comics that would confuse the youngest members of their target audience with regards to turtle identification. Could have been an inside joke Quote
CM4Sci Posted January 29, 2014 Posted January 29, 2014 (edited) Ok, I take it back, these are pretty cool. EDIT: Also, super disappointed I come home today and ZERO news on ANYTHING LEGO. -Sci Edited January 29, 2014 by CM4S Quote
just2good Posted January 29, 2014 Author Posted January 29, 2014 They still look odd to me, but I can't wait to see 'em as minifigures. Though, I thought the name of this film wasn't "Ninja Turtles" but rather "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles"? Quote
Dr.Cogg Posted January 29, 2014 Posted January 29, 2014 (edited) Those Turtles look HORRIBLE!!!, the Ninja Turtles in that picture, look like a combination of the turtles and Gremlins. + Edited January 29, 2014 by Dr.Cogg Quote
The_Chosen_1 Posted January 29, 2014 Posted January 29, 2014 The turtles themselves look ok, but I HATE how they're calling it "Ninja Turtles". Quote
lord raphael Posted January 30, 2014 Posted January 30, 2014 Hey those gremlins would look pretty good as minifigs. And by the way i like yoyr picture just2good. Quote
BlueberryWaffles Posted January 30, 2014 Posted January 30, 2014 I actually like these designs. Pretty nice. The only thing is Don's nerd glasses. Really? I was kind of wishing they'd use the OOTS video game turtles. Quote

Brickmasta Posted January 30, 2014 Posted January 30, 2014 I love them, when they manage to get those animations going realistically they sold me it ^^ The new Turtles look great, way more realistic and up to date, love them. I think this is going to be an AWESOME movie!! Quote
Lord Rahl of Clannad Posted February 3, 2014 Posted February 3, 2014 I don't suppose anything was seen of the movie sets in Nuremberg? And what are the odds of anything coming from New York in relation to the movie sets? Quote
Legoman123 Posted February 4, 2014 Posted February 4, 2014 I don't suppose anything was seen of the movie sets in Nuremberg? And what are the odds of anything coming from New York in relation to the movie sets? I should imagine they weren't there. I think they will be at NYTF though. Quote
Godtshep Posted February 4, 2014 Posted February 4, 2014 The Bike Chase looks like a decent set, but I'm not sure about the rest. Quote
Zzz Posted February 5, 2014 Posted February 5, 2014 I should imagine they weren't there. I think they will be at NYTF though. The movie set were on display un Nuremberg and the boxes and sets itself looked pretty final to me. Still, they were in the last room with Agents, SW, Marvel and other themes, and it was not easy to get a good view and memorize in the short time I had. Information overflow! The boxes and the sets were much darker than the animated sets. They had a different logo than the animated show, and to my surprise also a nickelodeon logo, but it was different in size and style. There were three sets, IIRC. I didn't make out any minifig details, sorry about that. The biggest set was once again called "Turtle Lair Attack", which was strange to see so soon after the first one. It was huge, dark and full of detail. Three floors I believe with street level top floor and sewer as the lowest floor. I don't think there were any vehicles coming with it, but it was really huge and I would say it was a little over 100€. The mid size one was a truck with trailer plus a smaller vehicle. It didn't look bad but I remember asking myself in how far this is a turtles set. It could have been anything, actually. But it's just me and I remember the turtles from the 80s and had a very specific idea about their universe. This looked like 70€ The smallest was the new party wagon - or whatever it is called. We all have seen the pictures, it is basically a van with huge wheels. In the middle a door / ramp opens. I think it was 6-wide but I might be wrong. So it seemed really not that big, which I liked. Difficult to estimate a price, but probably 40€ There should definitely be a small set, or they take the animated sets as small and count all the turtles sets together as one line, might be. The animated ones we have all seen. I saw the Rawket in person and I seriously don't know what to think of it. The other ones seemed whacky but nice. Especially the big figs looked like straight from the show. They're not my cup of tea but if you like them in the show, these are for you! Quote

There were three sets, IIRC. I didn't make out any minifig details, sorry about that. I think Nikolodean actually owns the entire property lock stock and barrel these days. While the new movie was not made by Nik, and I think the license for the movie was issued before Nik bought out the IP, they are now the ultimate owners of the property. Much like Spider-man is still a Marvel property and Marvel appears on the movies, regardless of Sony's license. Quote
gedren_y Posted February 6, 2014 Posted February 6, 2014 IMDb has as the production companies, Platinum Dunes, Gama Entertainment Partners, and Nickelodeon Movies in that order. Kevin Eastman and Peter Laird still retain writers credits as the original creators. Will Arnett is in both this movie and the Lego Movie. My biggest hope for a movie character fig is Bernadette Thompson played by Whoopi Goldberg. Quote
Lord Rahl of Clannad Posted February 6, 2014 Posted February 6, 2014 Thanks for those descriptions of the movie sets Zzz. They certainly sound very interesting so far. I doubt we will get pictures from New York of those sets, but it is very much possible; we did get pictures of The Lone Ranger sets from New York after all. I'm hoping the quality of these sets is more consistent than the TV show sets have been so far. Bring on NYTF! Quote
Steph 104th Posted February 8, 2014 Posted February 8, 2014 I'm interested in what the movie based lair looks like and seeing if its better than the one bassed on the show Quote
CM4Sci Posted February 8, 2014 Posted February 8, 2014 Does anyone know what this is from? -Sci Quote
Pulp Detective Posted February 8, 2014 Posted February 8, 2014 I guess it's from the turtle sub marine set that it's coming out this year. Quote
