mrcp6d Posted September 21, 2013 Posted September 21, 2013 My Collecting the Pieces build: Mikkel Winter-Stone was sent by Masa of Kaliphlin to retrieve a rare alchemy ingredient to aid in the resurrection of Dugal Maclean. In search of samples of Blue-Winged Stinger wings, his journey sent him to the great pine forests of southern Mitgardia. Retrieving the wings is tricky as Stinger venom can easily kill a man and Stingers are very territorial creatures. The crossbow came in handy, but after bringing down the Blue-WInged Stinger he needed, the only defense from the rest of the colony is speed... I built this mainly because I wanted to try out a big fir-like pine tree. I think it came out ok, though I'm not all that happy with how the top looks. But I ran out of both time and small leaf pieces. Flickr: http://www.flickr.com/photos/mrcp6d/sets/72157635735712074/with/9860952985/ Quote
kermit Posted September 21, 2013 Posted September 21, 2013 Nice little moc. I like how you made the birds. Quote
Captain BeerBeard Posted September 21, 2013 Posted September 21, 2013 I like it. That is a great tree you have there. Quote
Gideon Posted September 21, 2013 Posted September 21, 2013 Nice build, I especially like the ground and the insects (?), and the action you've captured there! The tree is also a very interesting technique, although I would probably have preferred another layer of plant elements on top to hide the hinges more. Quote
Duvors Posted September 21, 2013 Posted September 21, 2013 Nice little moc. I like how you made the birds. I don't think those are birds... Quote
Waylander Posted September 21, 2013 Posted September 21, 2013 Nice idea for an adventuring story. Like the wings. Quote
Infernum Posted September 22, 2013 Posted September 22, 2013 Very nice idea for the ingredient! Nice landscape too! I also love the insects and your fig's posing! Quote
soccerkid6 Posted September 22, 2013 Posted September 22, 2013 Great little landscape! I really like the irregular base you used here, and your tree design is excellent I like how happy your fig always is I think I have all the parts he's made of except his legs, are they from an old Castle line? Mike S Posted September 22, 2013 Posted September 22, 2013 (edited) Really nice MOC for the CtP community build. Great idea with the stingers and the tree also looks great! Edited September 22, 2013 by Masa of Kaliphlin Quote
Wedge09 Posted September 22, 2013 Posted September 22, 2013 Nice small work  you capture well the action Quote
mrcp6d Posted September 22, 2013 Author Posted September 22, 2013 Thanks guys, with it still being pretty warm in Texas, I thought I'd break out of the snowscapes and try to show off some of the diversity of the Mitgardian land. Nice little moc. I like how you made the birds. I don't think those are birds... Nope, they're bugs - big nasty dragonflies [...] I would probably have preferred another layer of plant elements on top to hide the hinges more. Me too. Next Bricklink order will probably have 20-ish small leaf pieces! (and some palm leaves so I can build in Kaliphlin ) I like how happy your fig always is I think I have all the parts he's made of except his legs, are they from an old Castle line? I grew up on minifig faces that were pretty monochomatic and always smiling. I love the variety we've been given in recent years, and have used some of the other faces in other MOCs. Legs are from Bricklink... Quote
Maxim I Posted October 2, 2013 Posted October 2, 2013 So much action in such a small build! Wonderfull Quote
mrcp6d Posted November 8, 2013 Author Posted November 8, 2013 I'd like DoH credit in Landscape Design - trees (2 of the 3 trees) for this MOC. Quote
Gabe Posted November 11, 2013 Posted November 11, 2013 I'll certainly give you +1 for the large tree - would give you a cert for the small pines as well, but you can only claim 4 adv. placement credits in total. Quote
mrcp6d Posted November 11, 2013 Author Posted November 11, 2013 Ths way I was reading the cert for trees is that it required all 3 tree different types to get the cert, thereby making this MOC 2/3 of a cert for trees. Can we get an official ruling? Also, loving the fact that you're being a stickler! We need some more of this in the forums. I've seen too much praise (my opinion!!) lately for mediocre or substandard MOCs. One comment containing constructive criticism is more useful than loads of random "oooh"s and "aaah"s; even on an awesome MOC. Keep it up. gedren_y Posted November 11, 2013 Posted November 11, 2013 (edited) I read the certification as being like the roof certification. You need a +1 for three different tree designs. You got my +1 for the big tree. Edited November 11, 2013 by gedren_y Quote

Kayne Posted December 10, 2013 Posted December 10, 2013 I will also give you the +1 on the tree Quote
