timmyc1983 Posted October 9, 2013 Posted October 9, 2013 It looks great all together! And with the vehicles it looks very busy, you've done a great job getting it all together! Maybe you could have a little car accident, someone run up the back of someone else... Always good for a laugh Anyway, good luck with the rest of your prep, happy building Quote
Aussie BJ Posted October 9, 2013 Author Posted October 9, 2013 You need more straight road plates......that's why I went with 8x16 tiles though more costly it does allow for T-junctions where you like in a way. Do you have room for the train......noticing the train controller ? Oh, yeah.....street lighting you need as well. Brick On 'Aussie BJ' ! Edit - Did you remember to include Harvey Norman ? No more budget for straight roads so T section will have to do. Wouldn't it be good if we could just buy bulk straights from S@H. Didn't take long for someone to notice the controller! I was planning on having a train but there simply no room, well that's what I thought until I built the table and noticed all the room underneath. So as a BIG surprise at the fete I'll have a train setup underneath. No one other than me knows about it so it's should be great. I'll be running a HE with lights and a cargo train set. Harvey Norman. An interior would be great on this one but sadly no time before the Fete. It looks great all together! And with the vehicles it looks very busy, you've done a great job getting it all together! Maybe you could have a little car accident, someone run up the back of someone else... Always good for a laugh Anyway, good luck with the rest of your prep, happy building Thanks timmyc, sounds like a good little scene will do it for sure. Actually now that I think about it, not so long ago an elderly gentleman drove his car though a shop, his foot slipped apparently and he ended up reversing through the front window of a shop. Might be good for a laugh also, thanks Timmyc Quote
eurotrash Posted October 9, 2013 Posted October 9, 2013 You could always hide (in plain sight), say, Harry Potter, R2D2, Capt Jack Sparrow's, and other assorted minfigs (plus a brick built Tardis) and get the spectators to play spot the oddities.... Just don't tell them how many there are. Quote
lightningtiger Posted October 9, 2013 Posted October 9, 2013 You could have what I have in my town.......a rural fire service truck racing to a bush fire ? Quote
Aussie BJ Posted October 14, 2013 Author Posted October 14, 2013 You could always hide (in plain sight), say, Harry Potter, R2D2, Capt Jack Sparrow's, and other assorted minfigs (plus a brick built Tardis) and get the spectators to play spot the oddities.... Just don't tell them how many there are. Done, though no HP or R2D2 just Santa Claus a few bunny rabbits and Spiderman. You could have what I have in my town.......a rural fire service truck racing to a bush fire ? and Done except it's actually extinguishing a a fire in one of the buildings which actually happened a few years ago. Thanks for all the comment it's only a few days away and the i'm nervous and excited. It's my first time ever displaying so fingers crossed it goes well. I've allowed 8 hours to setup and a few more hours on Saturday morning for final touches. I'll post a few pictures once it's up and running at the fete. Quote
lightningtiger Posted October 14, 2013 Posted October 14, 2013 My advice to you.....just let kids be kids, some things are going to get broken so take it easy and enjoy the day. Brick On 'Aussie BJ' ! Quote
Aussie BJ Posted October 18, 2013 Author Posted October 18, 2013 Well today is the day of the Fete but yesterday was setup day and here a few pictures. All packed up. I'm such a purist I even used Lego numbers from the business card set to help with remembering the road plate locations. Heaps of room in the school hall has really made it easy to setup. I allowed 8 hours and it took like 3. All done, just a few finishing touches this morning before the crowds come. Not sure if I mentioned it earlier but for a fund raising I have a Lego guessing comp with Lego stationary as prizes and we have bags of Lego Man Poop for sale. Quote
TwoKnightsBicycle Posted October 18, 2013 Posted October 18, 2013 I really like this idea! It's original, well build and you can compare the houses very well with the original ones. Congratulations! Quote
lightningtiger Posted October 18, 2013 Posted October 18, 2013 Good luck 'Aussie BJ'......are you going to have a build table for kids to have fun at as well ? What's Lego man poop ? Quote
timmyc1983 Posted October 19, 2013 Posted October 19, 2013 Wow good luck, I guess it was today, so I hope it all went well for you, with minimal breakages it looks great in the hall, I'm sure you'll be the talking point of the fete! Great work Quote
Sir E Fullner Posted October 19, 2013 Posted October 19, 2013 *Whistles* That is pretty impressive work. I hope you will tell how it went at the fete. Quote
Aussie BJ Posted October 21, 2013 Author Posted October 21, 2013 Good luck 'Aussie BJ'......are you going to have a build table for kids to have fun at as well ? What's Lego man poop ? Thanks again LT, Lego Man Poop was packaged up M&M's. The kids thought it was hilarious. Wow good luck, I guess it was today, so I hope it all went well for you, with minimal breakages it looks great in the hall, I'm sure you'll be the talking point of the fete! Great work Thanks Timmyc, No breakages during transport and nothing was dropped on the way. It was the talking point and I'm still getting stopped in the street with people telling me how good it was. *Whistles* That is pretty impressive work. I hope you will tell how it went at the fete. Wish I had more time to tell you all how it went but I've been slammed with work and finding 5 minutes over breakfast is about all I've got at the moment. All I can say is it was a fantastic day with 100's of kids and adults commenting on the display. Some adult faces dropped when they realised it was actually replica of our town. Some said to me that looks like the Bank down town then I would point out all the other buildings and the look on their faces was priceless. Our Lego display manage to raise just over $100 for our school and all the stalls combined it was close to $10,000 raised. The school P&C is purchasing a bank of Laptops for the kids which will be great compared to the dinosaurs their using now. When I get a chance I'll upload a few photo's from the day. Thanks for all the comments guys and gals, it's be a great experience and I hope I can do it again soon. Quote
lightningtiger Posted October 21, 2013 Posted October 21, 2013 Good to hear it went well, and yes, people are shocked at what can be done in Lego. I'll look forward to seeing the photos from the day......but the challenge is not for one day but two and a half days not including setup......now that would test you (I do that every two years for Railshow). timmyc1983 Posted October 25, 2013 Posted October 25, 2013 Glad to hear it was a successful day out for one and all! And great for the kids in many ways by the sounds of it I too look forward to seeing some pics, well done and happy building Quote
