It must be something small. Like: try to build a better backhoe than 42197, with a given bucket.

That is very specific and subjective.

True...

Build something with 4x 56mm tractor tires?

It will include monster jams, agricultural vehicles, construction equipment, fantasy vehicles...

Lol, we just had a [TC26] 49.5 x 20 Tire Vehicle Contest

I don't mind limiting the scope, but I do feel that the Holiday/Winter contest should not be that limiting.

How about build something that incorporates the light brick? Very flashing, very festive.

You did read my mind...or kinda. I was also thinking about something festive...related to the Holidays.

Design a Technic Winter Village set :D

Or Technic Christmas set or something like that.

A quick Bricklink search shows that the light brick has been around since 2008 and has appeared in 50 sets. It appeared in 6 sets in 2023 and 4 sets in 2024, so it shouldnt be too rare.

What about "outdo Lego's 2025 line up and build something that has at least one mechanical function apart from steering and driving"?

Jokes aside: while the idea of a festive contest sounds interesting, I think that color selection might be a bit of an issue for some. Typically red, green and gold are associated with christmas but if someone were to, let's say, mainly build construction vehicles, they would mostly have black, grey and yellow pieces. Not impossible but quite challenging to get it working

How about (maybe for a future contest) a contest for a creation with a "1 input -> at least 2 outputs"-mechanism? Like old sets that were ready for the PF-upgrade used to have these selector gearboxes or optionally something mechanical with linkages for the very creative minds.

C+ contest(Any hub include PF/Sbrick/Buwizz/C+/mindstorm, 4 motor, no sensor)

One-set alternative contest(minimum 100$ set. Not allowed spare parts and extra string/rubber band)

I can't remember, if it has been done, but a contest where the entries have exactly 1000 pcs would turn out quite a diversive one, I think.

I love that idea. Who is going to count the parts?

This is the reason we usually do bounding box limitations (size vs parts).

Dunno if this is even sensible because if it being very specific, but what if everyone gets a randomly assigned set to make a creation out of? Something like 42161 or 42138? I'm just throwing it out there. You also could allow stud.io models for those who don't have that specific set, or the parts that make up the set.

Basically a C-model contest. We have done that in the past and it was fun.

what about a transportation contest, where we build a vehicle (ship, truck, plane, etc.) that carries another vehicle.  -> The load, a.k.a. subbuild, needs to be autarkic. So a Titanic with loads of small lifeboats wouldn't count.

examples 42098 car transporter, 42076 Hovercraft, 42060 Roadwork crew, 42175 Truck + Excavator,

42064 Ocean Explorer? Don't know if the submarine can be seen as autarkic.

Would the load be 42098, 42076, 42060 etc, or would that be the transport vehicle used to carry the other set?

Maybe it's time for the long overdue NON VEHICLE CONTEST :sweet:

Honestly, it sounds like a fun challenge. Especially if the rules on what you can build were very loose, I have some ideas already...

I like this theme, this should bring a lot of new ideas

But what am I going to do with all my wheels and tires then!?!

Conveyor belt wheels, flywheels for a foam dart gun, flotation devices... theres lots of options!

The only problem I see with the non-vehicle contest is judging the entries: how to make a fair comparison between vastly different sort of builds?

On the other hand, this is also an advantage: a contest about cars has nothing but cars and that forces all entries have almost the same features, which gets boring fast.
