Have you ever considered making a C-model competition? I think it would really get the creativity going with limited parts and it would be great for people not participating as well, since they would get something new to build with their sets.

Been there, done that

But I can imagine doing one again in the future. It's great fun.

Hello,

If I may suggest some ideas, I feel that the "Techlug" (France) style of contests was pretty effective to bring out excellent models and allow rather efficient voting.

I think that the main issue was to put a frame as rigid as possible around what is allowed and what is not allowed.

Some examples:

Contest N°20: http://www.techlug.fr/Forum/viewtopic.php?f=34&t=8213

Build a walking lego machine, with a Lego arm, and which would have:

  • exactely six legs
  • can go right/left
  • all motorised
  • 3 functions for the arm
  • Nr of pieces between 1000 and 2500

Contest N°29: http://www.techlug.fr/Forum/viewtopic.php?f=34&t=10078

Build a skycrane helicopter, which would have:

  • mechanism for the main and secondary rotor
  • mechanism to lift objects
  • can lift a container with specific dimensions (9x11x21)
  • can be motorised
  • max 900 pieces.

As you can see, it is quite complex to make something that would be fitting all these rules, therefore you have to think about many things while designing your model.

And as the frame of rules is quite solid, the voting would bring out really the "best" entry, not only the most beautiful one or the most "complex" one.

I hope I made myself clear enough :)

Hoping Jim has a good competition up his sleeve to quell the disappointment of the H2 sets

Yeah, I know right?

Only thing remotely interesting is the giant tow truck, which still looks "meh" (colors are fine IMO).

The colors on that arctic, "thing" OTOH.... :sadnew:

Jim / Milan - have you ever considered a "Great Egg Race" type competition? It used to be a great programme when I was younger, worth a YouTube search

How about a 'design a proper 40th anniversary set'

Requirements:
- Clear connection to a major development in the Technic brand (see Technicopedia for some clear defining moments or models)
  * Can be a significant model (8880, 8448, first technic model)
  * Can be a significant part or system introduction (first penumatic model, first studless model, flexaxles, etc.)

- Minimum of N (say N=4) functions
  * Drive, steer, lift bed, extend rope
  * Suspension doesn't count as a function

- If steering is available in the model both a HoG and a functional steeringwheel in the dashboard should work

- Modern era model
  * Studless, no model team finish, (very) limited use of systembricks or studded technic

And so forth... I'm sure we can collectively come up with a great proposal for Jim:tongue:

Personally I would also like to limit the model either in piece count or size to make the playingfield as level as possible

I like the sound of that! And I'm not joking. It would be a great idea.

+1

That sounds like it would be really cool. It would be nice to see many modern interpretations of classic and significant sets. Plus, it would be easy for the staff because @Jeroen Ottens laid out all the rules already.

A battle sounds fun, although I have a feeling we will not be seeing Lego BattleBots thought

I plan to compete in this competition, I have missed out on the last few.

So that would be with 'Studded' Technic then :classic:

I'm hoping Jim starts the next competition soon so then we can all start moaning about the rules like we usually do instead of talking about the H2 2017 sets ... ?
