I feel that it would be cool if everyone built the same simple chassis, but created their own bodywork. It would be interesting to see their different styles!

Like when discussed in a formula competition, how do we know everyone will have the same pieces?

Maybe a modular chassis design would work, as that would give people more flexibility on choice of suspension, transmission, and steering.

That is kind of what I was thinking! I also thought that it would be kept small.

Okay guys, I would love to start a new contest so you can do some building during the holidays. However, we do have a problem....prizes. Due to some rightsizing warehouse blabla, TLG has cancelled our request for prizes for the last contest. I will make sure the winners get their prizes, but it will probably be booked on our 2018 "budget". Long story short, it will be harder for me to get Technic prizes. I know that having a contest is more important than prizes, but I still feel sorry about it. I have always tried to arrange some prizes. Maybe I can do my best to have a single prize per contest, only for the winner (or maybe a raffle to give every contestant a change).

So my question is; do you prefer a big/complicated or easy contest to start by the end of this week?

I feel bad for the winners, and you Jim. I think a raffle would be interesting, but I think it would be too different for regular contest. Something like make a small, 500 part set thing, or pullback.

I would say a 4 week, easy scale contest. That would be a good way to spend Christmas and New year.

You have no idea how terrible I feel. But I will make things right....if it's the last thing I do

I know, I would donate it I wasn't so far away.

Ok, hope it works out, even as a fun contest.

I think a smaller scale contest with a relatively short timescale would be good.  This would also fit with the calendars of those who are home for a few weeks only.

Too bad to hear this about the prizes. But I'm sure everyone will understand that the forum staff isn't to blame here.

I don't know how I would react if I were a winner, but I probably would have said, oh well. I have enough Lego anyway.

Which brings me to the point: do Eurobricks competitions even need prizes? I think most people who join just like the challenge, and the community feeling that rises from it, and join the competitions purely for fun and to challenge themselves or "pitch" their builds against others. What if the only prizes would be a mention in the competition HoF and the badges usually given out? Wouldn't that be fine for most people? I can't imagine many people having a problem with that, really. (Also, personally, I think a community's budget can be spent in better ways than by giving Lego to people who have plenty of it anyway.)

As for a new contest. I don't have a particular preference, I just await the announcement. Curious what you will think of.

They will get their prizes. There's no doubt about that. I just need to fill out a new request in 2018, so it will take a while. But they WILL get them

True

In the past, most of you have stated that you prefer having a contest, even if there are no prizes. This is all the motivation we need to run a new contest. And indeed...tags, HoF, frontpage, etc.

@Jim as for length keep in mind most colleges go back mid January.

Noted. We are thinking small now. Ending last week of January, or even mid January. But there will be time lost eating and eating and eating during the Holidays. So end of Jan is probably more realistic.

I agree, we don't need prizes to have fun. my ultimate prize would be the Hall of Fame, I Would't need a physical prize, just imagine the bragging rights...

I would like an easy contest for the holiday, even without prizes.
