Are you guys interested in joining contests without prizes (cash or Lego sets)?

Winners get the appropriate tag, frontpage and they will be added to the (soon to be created) Technic Hall of Fame etc.

Obviously, I will try to organize at least one (bigger) contest with great prizes, but we could do more smaller contests if they don't require prizes.

That would be an ideal setup IMHO. To be honest most of us have enough official set and parts and winning another set would just contribute to the part count of our parts storage. The idealistic approach you suggested should be more than enough motivation. Frontpage, Hall of Fame and a unique tag - to say it with Dustin Hoffmann's words from the motion picture Wag the Dog: "I want the credit."

Another suggestion: to keep the winning entry even more present the community could offer to make building instructions for this particular model.

That's great to hear!

I totally agree with having the winning entries in a more prominent place. I'm working on a Technic Hall of Fame and the winning entries will be posted there.

I should add by not having prizes, the contests can be more experimental or have very narrow themes - some examples could be - only build with a certain subset and quantity of parts, build your interpretation of a specific object/machine, use/don't use certain colors, etc...

I'm also fine without prizes. I think it will lead to more creative MOC's if you are just participating for the experience, instead of, for prizes.

Also when do you think the big contest will be, I'm already planning for it.

Wanted!

I am looking for someone with proficient graphical skills to create promotional images for contests and theme months. I am only so-so skilled in Photoshop and I feel this is holding me back from organizing more contests etc. Having all you skilled guys (and girls) around, I can only imagine that there must be one or two who can create these kind of graphics.

What I am currently thinking of is two types of templates, one for Contests and one for Theme months/periods, so both image types are immediately recognizable as being a "Eurobricks Technic Contest" or a "Eurobricks Theme ....something". The actual content depends on the contest or theme of course.

I would like to know if there are members out there who would like to give it a go. To give you an idea, the image I created for the last content was pretty well received at TLG, so the bar is not that high

Send me a PM if you are interested and possibly post (or mail me) an example of something you've created. This can be something totally different or an example of how you would create a promotional image for a fictitious contest.

The upside is eternal gratitude! The downside is that you might be excluded from entering the contest, but that depends on the time it will take you to create such an image. If you can create an image in a week or so, I don't have any problems with you entering the contest. I could already announce the contest theme to the other members when you start creating the image. We'll figure something out.

By the way; if everything goes according to plan, the next contest will be in May this year.

I was procrastinating and by chance ended in the Wikipedia entry for Lego; a remark called my attention:

"If all the Lego bricks ever produced were to be divided equally among a world population of six billion, each person would have 62 Lego bricks"

So that could be a nice idea for a mini contest. What can you do with your 62 "bricks"?

I have another fact for you, Wikipedia is outdated. A few years ago that fact became a hit for some reason and it showed up everywhere, including Wikipedia.

Nowadays there are already somewhere around 70/80 pieces for each person on earth. With a bit of Google you could find the exact number, because I read it on multiple sites

Yup it is obviously outdated, as there are way more than six billion people and with a net growth of roughly 3 people per second vs more than 1000 parts per second that 62 figure is going up every day.

I did like the idea for a contest, not really concerned with the exact number that only TLC can estimate at any given time...
