Sure wheels, but let competitors choose the tires.

Maybe a good limitation would be only 43.2 mm tires are allowed:

And for giggles even both balloon tires in this size:

How about contest about biomechanical beings? So creatures that represent biological entities but with mechanically actuated limbs and other internals. Creatures that walk, crawl, flap, flail, hop, sway, wag, etc. but are not obviously robotic in nature. To make it extra challenging I'd exclude the use of Mindstorms and other parts that rely heavily on programming, as this is Technic and not Mindstorms contest.

While Technic as a product line is mostly about vehicles and construction equipment, I always like to see something that breaks the mold and expands into other areas of Lego building.

I’m in agreement for limiting wheel rim diameter but not the tyres or width.

also as I previously said a box length and width to fit within (perhaps based on the car transporter or corvette) but not too big a constraint on the height?

I like the idea of a small car contest. IMO the sclale of the corvette is too small to recreate a car accurately enough. On top of that, you can not really add any features other than steering and a working engine.

1:12 would be more suitable. The scale allows to incorparate suspension, hog steering, advanced door mechanisms, active aerodynamics and a fake engine in a car whilst not compremising the interior or exterior.  This scale would give a more 'technical' aspect to this challenge. Suitable wheels are 56908. We are looking at builds (LaFerrari, Mclaren P1 (still a WIP of me) and aventador SVJ respectively) arround the 1500 parts range. The aventador is designed by @mihao

@T Lego - but I would ban replicas of actual cars and make it about coming up with something original.

Agree too many car & vehicle related contests.

Should be some based on engineeering problems / solutions etc.

Nothing to date for a GBC contest.

Just to add something in. We should consider a competition where the majority of people can enter based upon the parts they have. BrickLink sellers might not be able to get to post offices in their respective countries as governments impose restrictions.

What about using only parts of one official lego set (or no more than 2 sets) it will be like a B-model contest.

Only original (not based on existing car)

We did a C model contest a while back but everyone could chose what set they worked from.

The obvious thing is @Jim won't be able to please everyone ... it's impossible !

Free set choice is perfect!

I have also a non-vehicle related idea. It would be similar, as the computer game: The Incredible Machine, bit something like GBCs.

Goal: build a machine to forward a certain Object (ball, small basic Technic assembly) from Point A to Point B.

Coordinates of Point A: 5 studs high

Coordinates of Point B: 20 studs high; X=30 studs; Y=30 studs away from Point A

C-model contest is also very good! So everyone can get into the fun, based on own sets. I think, this is the most viable option to reach most member, also not dependant on Bricklink orders (which will be problematic in coming weeks/months).

Any thoughts for a new contest?

I am relatively new here, do you have a list of all the previous contests... so to avoid repeating too much...

I feel like the contest voting system is too much effort. I'd rather just click a vote on a poll instead.
So basically choosing which contestants moc is best in personal opinoin.

Making a dedicated post and distributing points is enough effort for me to just not vote.

I guess lazy voters don't count

The "Something that will fit the 42098 - Car Transporter. " combined with the " Maybe a good limitation would be only 43.2 mm tires are allowed: "  sounds nice.

That way it will be a more apples to apples contest. Yes cars... boring to some, but challenging to stand out within those constraints

For example given wheelbase/track ranges, max height and the list of tires allowed. Perhaps two categories, Model Team / Technic.

I think rules that give a certain level of consistency to all the entries make for a better contest.

A couple ideas..

  • Machinery -yellow of course- in a given scale.
  • A very small context to design an Intermodal container at a given scale and then
  • Given that "standard" design build anything designed to move that container.

Apart from Disney+ finally arrives in the U.K. next week and The Mandalorian has priority over everything

Having another contest soon would be great.  It would give us a reason to stay inside and healthy.

What about something a bit broader?

My thought was having to make something non-motorized, might not even need a size restriction, as the lack of a motor would limit that to an extent.

I'm totally not biased because I don't have many small panels, flex axles, and wheels...

a GBC contest would be good

I would love to do a GBC contest, but I am afraid the majority will not be interested in such a contest.

Typing this reply was more effort than voting for a contest. Just sayin
(I am working on a new helper website for Eurobricks, so maybe the "click to vote" scenario will become a reality soon....soon-ish.....2021-ish)

I am thinking about doing some shorter/smaller competitions. Since TLG is suffering from Corona as well, I probably won't have prizes anyway. Well, maybe I can arrange for some coffee mugs, like we for in the pullback contest. Six week build period, so we can do "Small Car", "GBC", ...
