CMP Posted October 8, 2013 Author Posted October 8, 2013 Really blowing the special effects budget here. Thalion created a small flame and tried to scorch the purple mass. "Stand back, everyone! I'll deal with with!" Maurice de-equips the White cloak again and puts on his new Sterile Gloves. Then he pulls out a Fire bomb and stuffs it down the throat of the Plague Doctor. "Take cover, it's gonna blow!" Together, at the cost of 1 ether and one Fire Bomb, Maurice and Thalion immolate the Plague Doctor. A shrill hiss emits from the strange mass, as if crying out in pain as it withers and blackens under the flames that slowly consume the former alchemist. The party's sure this time; he's not getting back up. Wally recovers a few moments after the Plague Doctor is nothing but ash. The young gnome shakes his head in horror. "Man, that was nasty." Knife-Tongue wipes his mouth after emptying his lunch onto the ground. He still looks a little ill at the sight and smell of the Plague Doctor's demise. Even Melvin makes a slight gagging noise. "Gah. Reeks of death here now." The cook nods to each hero in turn. "Ye have my thanks for helpin' me and Knifey here out, but I think we outta head back to the ship now. Don't fancy bein' around when the Town Guard lays their eyes on this scene here, ehehah." The dwarf sets off, Knife-Tongue shaking Thalion's hand before leaving. "I hope fo fee 'you agaim fomefime, my fwiem. Goo' wuck wif aww youw efcapef." Once the sailors are gone, Rian finally pushes himself off the wall he'd been leaning against. "I....I think I'm gonna head out, too. I....really would rather forget everything's that happened today," he mutters, with a glance at the ash pile. "...I mean, none of you really think the Guild's like all that, right?"
-obelix- Posted October 8, 2013 Posted October 8, 2013 Thalion shook Knife-Tongue's hand and nodded at Melvin, "Goodbye my friends, and thank you. Likewise, I hope we'll see each other too. Say hi to the captain for me!" With them leaving, he looked at Rian, "I don't know what to think... What the purple doctor told could be the truth, or it could be a product of hallucinating from that parasite on his head, I think we'll not learn the truth this time..." Thalion then turned to Red, Wally and the party, "I think its time to head back, wouldn't you agree?" OOC: for the special effects!
Etzel Posted October 8, 2013 Posted October 8, 2013 "I....I think I'm gonna head out, too. I....really would rather forget everything's that happened today," he mutters, with a glance at the ash pile. "...I mean, none of you really think the Guild's like all that, right?" "I guess he exaggerated a bit, but I honestly don't care that much about what the Guild of Invision do. You can dabble with your brews and potions all you want, just don't do anything like we saw today."
JimBee Posted October 9, 2013 Posted October 9, 2013 Hybros stared as the fungus-augmented carcass burned to a crisp, but did not show any reaction on his face. He nodded towards the departing alchemist and sailors. "Well then, em... I guess we had better go as well..."
CMP Posted October 9, 2013 Author Posted October 9, 2013 (edited) "Good to hear....I...can't imagine the Guild ever doing something like that to someone, but I can promise we're not as corrupt as that man seemed to believe. Since you helped me out, I'll put in a good word with the Guild for each of you. Thanks again." Rian leaves. Only the heroes and the reporters are left. Wally is folding up the AIUPIIUP. Red finally finishes scribbling, having gone through several sheets of parchment. "All finished. Let's get out of here." She leads the party back to the Eubric Herald building. It's already in the afternoon. The busines at the unveiling must've taken longer than they thought. They barely manage to make it inside before the dark side of Crescent Hill is nearly plunged into darkness as the sun dips past the hill itself. Rook is gone, leaving only Dash Boulder, editing his way through a stack of paper at the speed of an aepyornis, and Professor U'Reeka, doing some mechanical work on the printing press. He's quick, however, to stop and his work to examine every last inch of the AIUPIIUP. "You'd better not have damaged it. This took years to design and months to perfect, and years to design." "Nope, not a scratch, Professor." Red hands over her report to Dash. He looks over it critically. "Not too shabby, kid. Some of this might be usable." He then proceeded to start crossing out every other line. Red rolled her eyes, reaching behind his desk and pulling out four pouches of coins, tossing one to each party member. Each contained 50 gold. "Your payment. Thanks for the help out there. You guys really aren't as bad as we used to say." The U'kin pulled his eyes away from his precious device for a moment, frowning at the crate full of automaton parts Thalion dragged along. "What is that thing, what is it? That is the mark of the Tritech Company. Were those Ji Pei involved with the unveiling, were they involved with it? I don't think you should "study" these pieces either, professor. Death and mayhem are the only things that will come out of those, I tell you. Master Thalion, lets dump the pieces of this disgusting machine in the sea where they can do no damage."
Scubacarrot Posted October 9, 2013 Posted October 9, 2013 "The Tritech Company... Those bastards were involved with an assassination on the Bonapartes I helped deal with. I tend to agree with Ratibor, but I'd be fine with you studying the parts, U'kin, but there is no way you're returning the parts to the Ji Pei. From what I hear, last time that happened it resulted in what we just had to fight." "Your payment. Thanks for the help out there. You guys really aren't as bad as we used to say." Guts chuckled: "You've been giving Heroica bad press? Only about half of the 'heroes' are rotten, the rest of us, surprisingly okay. If I might make a small request, I'd like a copy of the paper this article is going to end up in."

OOC: I wouldn't want to lower Thalion's reputation with the Ziegfrieds, so he'll pass on the Guild's rep. But the Ji Pei one, that'd be nice... "What is that thing, what is it? "I have no problem giving you these parts to study and later return to the Ji Pei, and if you could send my regards to them the better. But if my fellow companions are against it, I am fine with just leaving the parts with you, or throwing them or whatever." Thalion said, looking at the U'Kin. He turned to the party, "But let me tell you this, the Ji Pei already have superior models of automatons then this." He points to the pile of metal that was once the fake Masked Man. "I heard it from master Legonardo himself, that they used the Sentinel we fought and returned to them, to upgrade their machinery or whatnot, and those new models helped us fight the remainder of 108 Stars of Destiny bandits in Xu, and even transferred some of their elemental energies to us, in and out of fight. So there is absolutely no harm in returning this one to them, like I said, they already have superior ones derived from the one similar to this... So Guts, if there is going to be another fight with the Bonapartes, in which if I may add, I would help the Ji Pei, there would be a lot more trouble then this junk heap gave us today..." "And one more thing, like master Guts, I would also like a copy of the paper!" He adds with a smile to the newspaper men. OOC: With 50 gold from quest reward Thalion should have 622 gold total (472 + 100 from Guts + 50) and one pair of Twin Sais less in his inventory. Edited October 9, 2013 by -obelix-
Scubacarrot Posted October 9, 2013 Posted October 9, 2013 "You would kill in a conflict that you yourself have no concept of it's cause. That's pathetic Thalion. The Ji Pei are a well respected family, I assume the Tri-Tech company has gone rogue under their control. If not, the Ji Pei are a bunch of pathetic blue idiots, unless their goal is for Eubric to be razed to the ground, and since their Matron is apparantly fond of designing horrible looking buildings, I doubt it. The Tri-Tech company is bad news. The Ji-Pei... I don't know, and I don't care. That's all."

"I am not some murderous cutthroat to kill without knowing what is going on, all I said was, that if there was a dispute between the Bonapartes and the Ji Pei, I'd rather help the Ji Pei solve it, because I helped the Bonapartes in the past and saw what they did to their prisoners. You know too, you were in the Hovels too. I have helped the Ji Pei two times so far, and they have behaved far more honorably the the Bonnies, both times. I dont know their motives, or any other house' for that matter, and I dont care to know them, but anyone who slays their captives, especially after they promise to be fair to them, is not right in my book. But all that aside, anyone who knows me, knows that I would much rather avoid the bloodshed if at all possible. Like I tried to reason with the Plague Doctor today, but failed unfortunately..."
JimBee Posted October 9, 2013 Posted October 9, 2013 Hybros shook his head, and glared at Guts. "You know nothing of the Ji Pei, either, so I would suggest you keep out of it. Thalion is right, and I, too, have seen well enough of the Houses to know the Ji Pei are..." Good? "...Useful. U'Kin, you can send good word with my name as well."

Very well master U'Reeka, you have our permission to study these and return them to Ji Pei along with regards from Hybros and myself." Thalion handed the Masked Man bits to U'Reeka.
Scubacarrot Posted October 9, 2013 Posted October 9, 2013 (edited) Guts spat on the ground. Honour. What a load of bullocks. Honour didn't win battles, honour didn't better the lives of people. A dirty stab to the groin could do both those things without a shred of honour involved. "Bullcrap. Those four in the hovels were Wolfgang, or Wolfgang-hired, feeding people lies and trying to kill them. It was the right call, what I would have done. Hybros, you only care for the blue people because you have some pathetic, baseless hope they can help you find out what you are. And despite your constant refusal, it might be time to accept what everyone says. You are a sodding demon. That's what you look like. And Thalion, next people that get hurt because of that thing, it's on your head, you better be prepared to deal with the consequences. I'm out." Edited October 9, 2013 by Scubacarrot
Etzel Posted October 9, 2013 Posted October 9, 2013 Maurice looked with anger on Thalion and Hybros. "How can you even consider give back the parts when you have seen what may be made from them? One less machine of murder and mayhem is something everyone should stand behind. And if it hurts the Ji Pei, well that's even better. Worse people can't be found in Eubric!"

"And you look more like an old man than a warrior, so then maybe it is time to hang up your dagger and give up on this revolution for Eubric you have in mind. So long as we are conforming to the suppositions of appearance, heheheh..." Hybros said it coolly, but inside he was burning. Unlike the same argument with Maurice and Eric last time, however, he didn't let it show. Maurice looked with anger on Thalion and Hybros. "How can you even consider give back the parts when you have seen what may be made from them? One less machine of murder and mayhem is something everyone should stand behind. And if it hurts the Ji Pei, well that's even better. Worse people can't be found in Eubric!" "Yes, I remember our time in Jolly Roger's Grotto well, Maurice. Those machines were no fun to fight, eheh." Hybros coughed. "But you are wrong about the Ji Pei. It is not they who have caused this destruction today, it was those who's bodies now litter the street in the Hovels." He pushed his hat up to scratch his head. "And rightly so, heheh..."

U'Reeka took the parts with a nod, setting it down and already digging into it. "My thanks to you master elf, I am sure these will come in handy with my research, I am sure. If it is any consolation to the rest of you, you have on my word as a son of Dastan I shall not put this machine to any purpose it may have been used for in the past. If it is any consolation to you." "Done here. Gnome, put these through the printer, asap." Wally grabbed the papers from Dash's desk and hurriedly set the blocks from the story Red had completed. Minutes passed as the party argued over the Ji Pei parts. Soon enough, papers started flying hot out of the printer. The young gnome started stacking them as fast as his tiny arms could, but paused just long enough to hand an issue to each party member. The headline? MASKED MAN IMPOSTOR: ALCHEMY ATTRACTING ALARMING AMALGAM OF APOCALYPTIC ANOMALIES? Copy of The Eubric Herald - (Gives the target the transcended- and inspired- effects for the duration of one battle) "There. Think our business here's done. Get out while you still can, damn machine makes the room as hot as Hel is cold." The young gnome slipped something resembling a crude map into Hybros' paper just before handing it off. "That's for you. If you're actually the only one of....uh, whatever it is you are, you can at least find your way to Zylstra. We've all got eachother's backs down there." Dash pulled a thick, stone pipe from under his desk, stuffing some sort of tobacco into it and striking a match along his own arm to light it. "Might've been a real clusterfuck of a public event, but at least Eubric's got us and you to thank for spreading the truth. That'll be some small comfort to the public." Hopefully this will offer some answers." He headed towards the door, and nodded to Thalion. "Well done today, Thalion." He hesitated. "Maurice, Guts." He departed, and pulled out the map quickly, barely containing himself. He tried to read it and follow it. OOC: Hey, it's worth a shot I guess. No problem if you don't want to continue this right now, Pie.
-obelix- Posted October 10, 2013 Posted October 10, 2013 Thalion bowed to the newsmen, "It has been a pleasure working for you. Red, Wally, stay safe!" He turned to the party, "Excellent work today everyone, it was my honor to fight alongside you. I guess we'll see each other at the Hall" and with a slight bow, he left.
Scubacarrot Posted October 10, 2013 Posted October 10, 2013 Guts was already gone, heading for the harbour. How could people be so foolish? Sometimes the raider wondered if this pisshole of a city was too far gone to save...
Etzel Posted October 10, 2013 Posted October 10, 2013 "Thank you, Mr Dash. It was a smart move to hire us for today, otherwise your co-workers might have ended up poisoned or worse. I hope we have proved that Heroica heroes can do their job, no matter what may come their way." Maurice leaves as well. Today had been a long day and he wouldn't mind a hot meal and a comfortable bed before setting out on new adventures.
CMP Posted October 10, 2013 Author Posted October 10, 2013 (edited) He departed, and pulled out the map quickly, barely containing himself. He tried to read it and follow it. OOC: Hey, it's worth a shot I guess. No problem if you don't want to continue this right now, Pie. I'll have to leave most of it up to you. Hybros makes a beeline for the nearest manhole, as per the instructs of the map. Trudging through the half-dried sewers, he's surprised to find a cistern at the end; with more than just sewage floating around. A gnome in an enormous hat leaves the gray building, turning towards the giant mushroom before catching a glimpse of the imp. He walks over quietly, then sizes up the assassin, offering his hand with a welcoming smile. "Welcome, friend. Tell me, what is it you've come seeking? Buried treasure? Lost fellows?" "...Or a new life?" Edited October 10, 2013 by CallMePie
