Laservampire Posted September 30, 2013 Posted September 30, 2013 Man I hate Lego's "licenced logos must be a sticker" policy. Ugh. Quote
eurotrash Posted September 30, 2013 Posted September 30, 2013 By my count, the set has at least 133 stickers. That's just.......no....... /shudder/ That could be three DSSs Quote
The_Skirrid Posted September 30, 2013 Posted September 30, 2013 133 stickers? That's more than the first 5 Fast and Furious movies put together Quote
LEGO Historian Posted September 30, 2013 Posted September 30, 2013 (edited) I see that Medium Azure came out in 2012... http://www.bricklink...talogColors.asp The relationship between TLG and Maersk goes back farther than the 1650 Maersk Line container Ship of 1974. The first LEGO Maersk model was the 0751 glued retailer display model of 1959-60 (with regular blue bricks) of the first REGINA MAERSK ship (1954-70). The first of 3 Regina Maersk ships was the first ship (christened 1955) that contained the Maersk blue hull (in real life). Here's part of the story on the first 2 Maersk ships from my next version of my Unofficial LEGO Sets/Parts Collectors Guide available as a DVD/download.... (all future versions are free to current owners)... http://www.youblishe...LY-LEGO-MODELS/ Gary Istok P.S. Sadly the real Maersk ships are no longer made in the Odense Denmark shipyards... but in South Korea... Edited September 30, 2013 by LEGO Historian Quote
LEGO Historian Posted September 30, 2013 Posted September 30, 2013 Going off on a tangent about the real Maersk EEE Class Ships... This is specifically designed.... http://online.wsj.com/article/SB10001424052702303759604579093173058403920.html Not to let this happen... We shall see... Quote
AncientDayz Posted September 30, 2013 Posted September 30, 2013 This model almost angers me. If not for the stickers, this would be a definite day 1 buy. However, all those stickers are keeping my wallet stuck shut. I HATE stickers, let alone STAMPs. Ugh! What a waste of a great design! Quote
antp Posted September 30, 2013 Posted September 30, 2013 A solution to eliminate a lot of STAMPs would be to replace the 2x4 containers by 1x2s (as I suggested they should have done). This would fix the scale issue and allow to make multiple colors at the same time... I might consider doing that, though that it would require a lot of 1x2 plates and tiles, and containers would be unmarked. Quote
jimoakley666 Posted September 30, 2013 Posted September 30, 2013 Another Maersk ship? Come on, Lego, give us something new. The train they brought out was great. Different. But this... I'd much rather a mini-fig scale ship. There are so many iconic vehicles I'd rather see Lego attempt for the first time. A red London Routemaster bus and black cab would be cool. Or a Virgin Train. How about a Spitfire. Minifig scale. Or a JCB backhoe digger. I could go on for hours... Quote
antp Posted September 30, 2013 Posted September 30, 2013 (edited) Maersk is an usual partnership for Lego, so comparing that to a red bus or a JCB digger is irrelevant... Instead of one more ship they could re-do a container truck like they did several years ago (as the train was already made two years ago), but making that ship is logical with the release of the new Triple E ships by Maersk this year and next year: it was possibly asked by the company. Holodoc Posted September 30, 2013 Posted September 30, 2013 Stickers over multiple bricks + no MAERSK-blue? No. No, thanks. Quote
KLF Posted September 30, 2013 Posted September 30, 2013 There is still place for a MAERSK Air plane. Quote
ep3_lol Posted September 30, 2013 Posted September 30, 2013 I've come to accept stickers, but I will not buy another set where they hold bricks together. I thought those days were gone. Nice kit otherwise. Quote
dr_spock Posted September 30, 2013 Posted September 30, 2013 P.S. Sadly the real Maersk ships are no longer made in the Odense Denmark shipyards... but in South Korea... I guess Daewoo could built them for less. Here is a time elapse of the Triple E construction: http://gcaptain.com/building-the-worlds-largest-ship-in-50000-pics/ Quote
Herky Posted September 30, 2013 Posted September 30, 2013 Really like this ship, once I got past all of the aforementioned stickers...like seemingly everyone else, that is the deal breaker for me unless the price point is pretty low, but I do appreciate the time they took to make this ship look really nice. True it's a container ship and we know the partnership with Maersk and TLG (I bypassed the train, wish I hadn't) and I agree with comment that said this one is being put out due to the ship being launched, I just can't get past the stickers though. I love building the sets, but I hate putting the stickers on, would rather they come pre stickered myself. It's too bad too, cause I bet this will be the downfall here. Quote
dvsntt Posted September 30, 2013 Posted September 30, 2013 Am I correct in my determination that this model does not include any parts in Maersk Blue? Quote
LEGO Historian Posted September 30, 2013 Posted September 30, 2013 Am I correct in my determination that this model does not include any parts in Maersk Blue? They didn't come out and say that... but with "medium azure" being the color of the hull... an educated guess would be "NO". Also if Maersk has retired the use of their trademark Maersk blue color... it can only mean that Maersk blue parts for sale online (such as Bricklink) will likely start rising once again (as they did when the 2006 version of 10152 sort of announced the premature end of Maersk LEGO products). Funny thing about the 2006 version of the 101052 ship... TLG was so sure that the production of that color would cease, they called on all the model shops for extra 2x4 bricks in that color (to include in the set), since another production run was not going to happen. That's when it was discovered that many of the 2006 versions of that set had very old (pre 1983) 3001old (no cross-supports) 2x4 bricks... a part that was never found in that size/color in any previous LEGO set... http://www.bricklink.com/catalogPG.asp?P=3001old&colorID=72 Quote
Rob Klingberg Posted September 30, 2013 Posted September 30, 2013 This looks like a beautiful model. I hear what people are saying about the stickers, but I actually see that as an opportunity to mod the ship so instead of having a small number of brick-built container stacks, you actually had individual containers you could add/remove. Will definitely keep my eye on this one for possibilities.... --Rob Quote
Dutchy Posted September 30, 2013 Posted September 30, 2013 But the question is... Will it blend? Quote
Laura Beinbrech Posted September 30, 2013 Posted September 30, 2013 I might have to get one of these: I'll most likely use that massive 12x85? hull to make a system-scale cargo ship, though. Quote

Edwin Korstanje Posted October 1, 2013 Posted October 1, 2013 (edited) I don't like the smal and bad designs of almost any TLG ships. The new Maersk is for mine SL Gabon, deck fil up and have no real details, only stickers This is a ship . Edited October 1, 2013 by VFracingteam Quote

Itaria No Shintaku Posted October 2, 2013 Posted October 2, 2013 I was there and though I am usually not interested in those sets, I was amazed. Also I was surprised for the decision to avoid using Maersk Blue, but I can absolutely confirm it is medium azure, it has been said and confirmed during the presentation of the model. Quote
badbob001 Posted October 2, 2013 Posted October 2, 2013 (edited) Going off on a tangent about the real Maersk EEE Class Ships... This is specifically designed.... Not to let this happen... We shall see... I can't find any info on the anti-piracy features of this ship other than something about a NATO escort. Perhaps the secret is in plain sight in the LEGO model: the life boat cranes are really guns. Update: I found a different link to the WSJ video that actually worked and it does mention that pirates will need a 20 meter ladder to board the ship. I still think having guns would be safer, even if they are just water guns. Imagine automated water gun torrents that can pressurize water into a laser-like beam.
