Governor Mister Phes Posted March 24, 2007 Governor Posted March 24, 2007 This MOC is linked to the Islander MOC Index Here's a MOC Mr Attack submitted to the Islander MOC Index. I'm really liking this! Awesome temple and the best use of raised baseplates I've seen in a while. View more pictures at Xenobuzz's website Quote
Asuka Posted March 24, 2007 Posted March 24, 2007 Very lovely! *sweet* Nice landscaping, and a very smart way to fill the corner holes in these baseplates too. Quote
Aredhel Posted March 24, 2007 Posted March 24, 2007 This looks really great!! A little bigger than my temple :-D -Aredhel Quote
Governor Mister Phes Posted March 24, 2007 Author Governor Posted March 24, 2007 wow this is seriously cool! :-D Yeah, that's what I thought Mr Windu. What do you like most about it? This looks really great!! A little bigger than my temple :-D This MOC should be a inspiration for you! This was the one I found, wasn't it? Yes it was Mr Attack, I shall add that to the first post. Capn Frank Posted March 24, 2007 Posted March 24, 2007 I like the two facial statues in the front, very unique and kool looking. The pyramid is flippin sweet, dunno about the structure on top though, the doorway in is only 3 bricks high. Only an ewok or jawa would be able to fit in there. P Quote
Scouty Posted March 24, 2007 Posted March 24, 2007 The two statues in the front look really nice. And the Aztec/Maya inspired temple in the background looks very well done. The jungle on the side is done well. the doorway in is only 3 bricks high. Only an ewok or jawa would be able to fit in there Nobody can. In order of a minifig to enter a door way at has to have a width of 4 studs wide. Other wise not much can get there facing forward, you'd have to be facing sideways to enter in there :-D . Quote
Governor Mister Phes Posted March 24, 2007 Author Governor Posted March 24, 2007 The pyramid is flippin sweet, dunno about the structure on top though What's wrong with the structure on top? That's pretty much standard in the architecture... Quote
Scouty Posted March 24, 2007 Posted March 24, 2007 Hmmm, it looks like the top part is too big and should be flatned a bit. This is all according MisterPhes' picture. Quote
Governor Mister Phes Posted March 24, 2007 Author Governor Posted March 24, 2007 I think it looks fine because there is no "standard" for pyramid designs. Like Tikal for example... Quote
Eurobricks Emperor Bonaparte Posted March 24, 2007 Eurobricks Emperor Posted March 24, 2007 Very smart use of these high base plates. One of the best Islander MOCs. Yesterday I saw a temple like this one in the movie Apocalypo. This is really a great movie for the "Islander fans". According to the movie, these temples were used for human sacrifices! Heads would be cut off and thrown down the stairs. Quote

I'm a big fan of the Mayas and I think that movie is quite insulting to their culture. But that temple is pretty neat. Quote

simonwillems Posted March 24, 2007 Posted March 24, 2007 I like this temple, very smart use indeed of those raised baseplates. It looks good in the Islander-Index. The looks of the temple are great, except that I would have made it a bit higher to get it more upto the same proportions of the minifigs. *sweet* Quote
Governor Mister Phes Posted March 24, 2007 Author Governor Posted March 24, 2007 Meh... I'm a big fan of the Mayas and I think that movie is quite insulting to their culture. But that temple is pretty neat. Yeah, I know what you mean - a total disregard for historic accuracy which I thought really brought the film down From the Apocalypto article on Wikipedia Inaccuracies The film has been accused of historical inaccuracy and racism by historians, Native Americans, and those in the archaeological community.[2] The film has been accused of fueling a stereotype of native Mesoamericans as bloodthirsty savages with few civilized achievements other than architecture.[2] For example, it was more typical of the Aztecs to practice the kind of human sacrifice depicted in the movie, rather than the Maya. The sun god Kukulkan, to whom the sacrifices are offered, is in fact the Maya equivalent of the Aztec god Quetzalcoatl and did not demand human sacrifice. On the other hand, in Maya rituals prisoners of war were in fact killed "on top of the pyramid [ Quote
Capn Frank Posted March 25, 2007 Posted March 25, 2007 What's wrong with the structure on top? That's pretty much standard in the architecture...... I find nothing wrong at all with the design of the structure; it looks very good. It's just the scale of the structure on top. It's doorway is too small, is all. Unless i'm mistaken, aren't the priests supposed to go into the top structure. Never saw Apocalypto. Kind of sux that it's not very accurate though 8-| P Quote
Governor Mister Phes Posted March 25, 2007 Author Governor Posted March 25, 2007 I suppose you have a point now that you've reiterated that the doorway is too small. Maybe the builder made it that narrow because they would of had to make the doorway 5 studs wide to keep the design symmetrical and 5 was just too wide. Maybe we should attempt to contact him and ask him? Quote
Eurobricks Emperor Bonaparte Posted March 25, 2007 Eurobricks Emperor Posted March 25, 2007 Maybe we should attempt to contact him and ask him? I suggest you guys try this. His email address is available at his homepage. My only worry is that the site was last updated more than 2 year ago (February 12th, 2005). Howerver, he might have forgotten to update this date... Aredhel Posted March 25, 2007 Posted March 25, 2007 This MOC should be a inspiration for you! The temple of my MOC is ready like it is now... And at my MOC it is only a part of the MOC and not the whole MOC :-P -Aredhel Quote
