I hope not TBH, season 10 will be shorter so I'd like them to use that time to focus on the Oni, the overlord's return would detract from the impact of the Oni who they've spent two seasons building up.

Yeah, agreed. The Oni deserve to be their own thing.

Tommy Andreasen did say it'd be spoilers to say if he was an Oni or not.

He might not appear, but maybe we'll learn something about him. Could even incorporate his Legacy design into a flashback from long before time had a name.

I don't think so, because the new Oni shown in the trailer is clearly wearing a new mask with different horns and a different face than the other masks and the other masks were Oni General masks.

Its head is smooth like Mystake's.

I think the horns are just his horns.

The Overlord is pretty much Oni in everything but name... Him coming back wouldn't really detract from anything if it's not emphasized

That a big assumption. no-one in the show has link the two. I mean he appeared in his true form as a dragon the enemy of the Oni so if he was in season 10 I'd want him to be a dragon not an Oni if he had be more than just himself.

Maybe it could work but honestly I wouldn't want them to take that risk.

There's quite a lot linking them actually even if it's not outright said. The Oni are described as Shape-shifting spirits of darkness. Meanwhile what's the overlord? A spirit of darkness that has shape-shifted throughout the series. It was never actually said that The Dragon was his true form, and who's to say an Oni can't do that either? It just makes sense.

I mean it wouldn't have to be such a big reveal... I haven't even seen Legacy but that's a sure success anyway so why not take a risk afterwards?

The Overlord is the living embodiment of Ninjago's darkness, he isn't an Oni. He's a spirit that rose from the shadows. With no build up or mention of him these past seasons, it would be weird to shove him in there alongside a new group of villains in only four episodes.

I mean, I wouldn't say it would be entirely out of nowhere, since what allowed him to return to Ninjago back in Season 2 was Garmadon tipping the balance of light and darkness in Ninjago far enough in darkness's favor, and if what we've seen in the trailer is any indication, the return of the Oni themselves could potentially do that just as well as Garmadon himself did (whereas most other past villains haven't been as overtly darkness-themed or had the same specific ambitions of extinguishing the light that was the First Spinjitzu Master's legacy).

Also, re: the season numbering discussion that was going on in the sets topic:

On 12/31/2018 at 5:19 PM, Thedarkmaster2 said:

You only get 11 seasons if you add both DoD and The Skulkin season.

Season 1 was not just half a year like DOD It was an enitre YEAR! of Skeleton sets and episodes.

So? Lego has also called it season 1

In the United States, Great Britain, Germany, and I think most of Europe, the seasons are officially numbered as follows:

  • Way of the Ninja (Pilot/TV Special)
  • Season 1: Rise of the Serpentine (Episodes 1–13)
  • Season 2: Legacy of the Green Ninja (Episodes 14–26)
  • Season 3: Rebooted (Episodes 27–34)
  • Season 4: Tournament of Elements (Episodes 35–44)
  • Season 5: Possession (Episodes 45–54)
  • Season 6: Skybound (Episodes 55–64)
  • Day of the Departed (Halloween Special)
  • Season 7: Hands of Time (Episodes 65–74)
  • Season 8: Sons of Garmadon (Episodes 75–84)
  • Season 9: Hunted (Episodes 85–94)
  • Season 10: March of the Oni (Episodes 95–98)

As of right now, I expect that there will be an 11th season, but it has not yet been named or announced.

In the Danish DVDs, the pilot IS considered Season 1; however, in that numbering system, Rise of the Snakes and Legacy of the Green Ninja (episodes 1–26) are ALL considered Season 2, so from Season 3 onward the numbering is the same.

The Australian DVDs also number the first couple seasons that way, but their season numbering is even stranger, because they consistently treat one year as one season: thus, they treat both Tournament of Elements and Possession (episodes 35–54) as Season 4, Skybound (episodes 55–64) as Season 5, Hands of Time (episodes 65–74) as Season 6, and both Sons of Garmadon and Hunted (Episodes 75–94) as Season 7.

I mean that's what Onis are! Spirits of darkness. I mean there have been allusions to him.

Is it darkness being in favor in general that brings him back, or darkness being in his favor? His darkness is part of Ninjago's balance, but the Oni are from outside of Ninjago. I just mean, even if they are very similar, it seems weird he hasn't at least been directly referred to by name.

Well, Garmadon's Oni blood was a big part of what enabled the Overlord to manipulate him into bringing about his return, so there might be some connection there. I'm not saying that the Overlord's return is a sure thing, but if the Oni invasion did somehow bring about the Overlord's return, I don't feel as though it would be out of nowhere, nor that it would contradict any of what's been established in previous seasons.

Darkness is darkness (Just look at Kingdom hearts) Also The Overlord only got freed because the balance was imbalanced! The Oni's actions would imbalence it to his favor. And they wouldn't want to spoil it obviously.

Just saw both episodes too, gotta say - That intro is just awesome! Never expected that video (We are Ninjago) to be it. Possibly my favorite out of all the seasons! Definitely eager for the next to air!

  Reveal hidden contents

If the realm crystal can be destroyed. Why did the first spinjitzu master take it to his grave? Why even keep it around?

Y'know, that's a really good question there.

I’m pretty sure in Skybound it was destroyed by a simple shot from Flintlocke’s gun, which (while erased) was still a really baffling moment when it just randomly shattered

True but why keep it around after Morro used it in Possession? Wouldn't destroying it be for the better?

I guess for narrative reasons it makes sense for the writers to keep it around to use it as an ex machine device in the future (as they just did), but in-universe I guess the power to explore other realms is always something useful to be able to have, so they just stored it under lock and key

Morro's realm was destroyed, so why destroy something to travel if the threats gone.
