Boettner Builds Posted March 11, 2014 Posted March 11, 2014 Not too bad! Its funny about GG and MS, They really aren't THAT nice! So i'm not wooried about thier CRAZY prices. But The FB is REALLY nice. Less than 3 Bills is not bad! Quote
gunm Posted March 11, 2014 Posted March 11, 2014 I thought I was going to swear off these modular sets due to lack of space/cost, but I'm really leaning towards getting this set! My son wants this too, so I might get him his own for his birthday. Quote

My son wants this too, so I might get him his own for his birthday. I would say go for buying this set. It is one of the most beautiful modulars Lego has released so far, and the internal design is the best yet out of all of them. If it wasn't for the fact my money is currently going to the 3 modulars that were discontinued before I knew about them, I would be getting this and then the Theater after. I have been digging through my lego's the past week and have set aside parts for the GG, CC and MS. Started to order parts off BL last Friday for the remaining GG parts I did not have on hand. Quote

I honestly didn't want to go over $250, but the $20 shipping put it $5 over that number. ...and I've got some lowball bids on a couple currently available sets. If I get outbid on those, I'll just go to the LEGO store 3 miles from my house and get points for them. Edited March 13, 2014 by rollermonkey Quote
rollermonkey Posted March 14, 2014 Posted March 14, 2014 I just got a Grand Emporium, NISB, for $100. :D <Very happy guy. Quote
The Jersey Brick Guy Posted March 15, 2014 Posted March 15, 2014 I'll be picking this set up next month when it's double points. Can't wait! Quote
The Jersey Brick Guy Posted March 16, 2014 Posted March 16, 2014 Yeah, I was going to be getting it soon, might as well do it and make it worth the points. Once I get that, I will have either bought or brick linked every modular house. I am also almost done my police station and 2 other ones I have been working on. Quote

LegoSjaak Posted March 27, 2014 Posted March 27, 2014 I finally managed in getting all my modulars downstairs from the attick and i made some pictures of them together.. Here is also the XL-Parisian Restaurant in it's natural habitat.... Quote
Stefano Posted March 27, 2014 Posted March 27, 2014 looks better than the original if you ask me ! Quote
Xyver Posted March 28, 2014 Posted March 28, 2014 That does look good LegoSjaak, if S@H had allowed me to buy two sets, I would have done something similar. After building the (all but) standard PR this week, it is definitely their best one yet. I own FB, GE, PS and PC and have built a custom CC from parts, but the detail in this set was so much better. It was an absolute pleasure to build, and not repetitive like FB&GE are at the front. I'm a sucker for dark blue too, which helps, though I'm not sure about the green. One MOD I do make to all my buildings is to raise them up 1 plate to get a better footpath. This has created an unexpected bonus on the inside as I kept the ground the same height and it means that the brown (wood?) platform just inside the front door is now 1 plate higher than the floor, making a nice little raised entryway. Most people will never see this, but it is a nice extra feature. Now I just have to find a space in my layout for this, it may have to go in the suburbs rather than the City centre though. Quote
Inzane Posted March 31, 2014 Posted March 31, 2014 Its funny about GG and MS, They really aren't THAT nice! Say... WWHHhhaaaattttt??? I would agree with you on market street, but I think you need to give Green Grocer a closer look. Quote
Boettner Builds Posted April 1, 2014 Posted April 1, 2014 Say... WWHHhhaaaattttt??? I would agree with you on market street, but I think you need to give Green Grocer a closer look. Ok, saying that about GG makes me feel a little better about missing it. But MS pretty much sucks. Quote
Faefrost Posted April 1, 2014 Posted April 1, 2014 Say... WWHHhhaaaattttt??? I would agree with you on market street, but I think you need to give Green Grocer a closer look. GG is a fantastic building. But always strikes me as a hair over scale compared to the others. MS just does not flow as well with the other sets. Just a noticeably different design aesthetic. A little more obviously Lego than the other Modulars. Quote

Has to do with its origins maybe, MS is technically a fan creation and was sold as "Lego Factory" IIRC. Quote
Inzane Posted April 1, 2014 Posted April 1, 2014 (edited) MS is an ok set in it's own right. Like you said fan creation. Also consider it's original price point and piece count relative to the rest of the modular line. All said, its not bad. It's just not a standout. Green Grocer on the other hand, is hard to criticize in any department. It raised the bar. Also, one positive about market street is it may be the only set that would look good connected to the right side of Parisian Restaurant, given the stairway on the side. Most of the other buildings on that side would sort of block it and obscure the side view of the patio. Edited April 1, 2014 by Inzane Quote
TheLegoDr Posted April 1, 2014 Posted April 1, 2014 I agree about Green Grocer being too tall/big compared to the others. Especially depending on which other modular it is next to. I modified my own version of it and I wanted to make it one stud shorter. I just didn't know how I'd accomplish it with the big white windows on the side. I figured by reducing the height, then the tan strip of plates wouldn't line up too well with the windows vs the rest of the building. But Market Street is obviously a fan creation. Plus it is the only "modular" that used normal faces instead of the classic smiley. So by that categorization I will not count it with the rest of the line . Quote
badbob001 Posted April 1, 2014 Posted April 1, 2014 I have the Green Grocer, Fire Brigade, and Cafe Corner side by side and it looks like the Cafe Corner is undersized. Quote
TheLegoDr Posted April 2, 2014 Posted April 2, 2014 ^ I'd agree with that statement too. But I still think GG is too tall. Quote
elleana Posted April 2, 2014 Posted April 2, 2014 I have the Green Grocer, Fire Brigade, and Cafe Corner side by side and it looks like the Cafe Corner is undersized. Add an additional first floor. Quote
Inzane Posted April 2, 2014 Posted April 2, 2014 Add an additional first floor. You mean 2nd floor? Or are you calling the floor above the ground floor as 1st floor? I've never understood that convention. Here in Canada, the floor above the ground/main floor is always Floor 2. Quote
stevkir Posted April 2, 2014 Posted April 2, 2014 I like the variation in height. It gives it a more realistic feel to the buildings as in any real city the floor heights and the mount of floors per building are not always the same. one building could have floor to ceiling heights of 2.74 meters and the other 3.35 meters. Did it in meters since 80% of the world uses it and us crazy Americans still use the feet. Who knows maybe in a few years after the US dollar is no longer being used as the world currency because we print money to pay our debts and the US is in another recession in a year or 2 from now we will adjust to the world for our measurements.
