I'm thrilled with the Parisian Restaurant (PR). It doesn't really matter to me if its not the same height, it is a restaurant after all. Once I finally complete my Green Grocer and Cafe Corner I will just need the Cinema and the PR then I will be able to make that modular line up in GRogall's sig picture

Roofline is exactly 28 bricks high, not counting the chimneys. The roofline of the Pet Shop (both buildings) is 26 bricks and one plate high, not counting the little fence bits on top or chimneys. This is definitely not the smallest modular by height, and I can't for the life of me figure why people are so concerned about its size.

EDIT: Same exact height as the main roof of the Café Corner, too, not counting the little fences, chimneys, or tower.

Would you prefer to buy a house with 9 foot ceilings or 7 foot ceilings? I think many people like the higher ceilings even though it costs more energy to heat or cool.

Buying any lego product is an invitation to add your own personal style to it. That's one of the great things about lego. For a small cost, you are free to make the parisian restaurant as tall as you like. And, I'm free to change some of the colors.

I hope to buy two of this set, then MOD the second one such that it's a mirror image of the first. Change the color of the second one and put a clothing boutique on the bottom floor with a coffee or ice cream shop upstairs and you've got a nice counterbalance that lets the upstairs seating shine.

The positioning next to the Town Hall does make it look small. It would fit in better in between or next to the Pet Shop.

A town hall is supossed to be much bigger .. Really I don't get the complaints about size (earlier complaints was about the lack of interior design, sigh), please stroll along a street with similar buildings, they're are ALL differet size! Be it Paris or my hometown Aarhus (with similar architechture)

Don't like it? MOC!

This is taking Modulars to another level, Modulars - like all LEGO offerings - evolve .. Wunderbar I say :classic:

Many would prefer and many cannot afford, thus LEGO is true to real life. In a typical european city there will be houses from the last hundred years, all of vastly differet architecture

Thanks GRogall for rearranging that picture (although you didn't have to to appease me!)

I will agree wholeheartedly with everyone that city skylines are of varying heights, I think I was more thrown by the original location of it next to much taller buildings. Usually it isn't that jarring of a elevation change and is more gradual over the entire block. So with the new set-up, I love it! I think it all depends on how it is placed on the street. I'd prefer to have it closer to the cinema and a hotel anyway, so it works out. I think I will still MOD the height slightly, but I don't want it a whole extra story high like in that cropped photo. Although, thanks for doing that, satly! I think I just want it an extra brick high, which won't take away too much from the entire facade. But more than likely I won't modify anything structurally and just change the dark red carpet area inside the cafe.

Otherwise, it is a beautiful building and I can't wait to add it to my collection. Olive green and dark blue go so well together. My tie today is actually a mish-mash of those colors surprisingly enough.

Unfortunately due to the architectural style, I think the PC stands out the most and this blends in well enough.

The only problem that I can see is that it's not modular any more! Yes - it fits in with the other buildings, so it's modular in that sense, but previous designs have had copyable middle floors or could be placed side to side to make a bigger building. With this one, the main door on the second floor wouldn't line up!

I totally missed that! That's actually a pretty nice way to solve the problem too - I knew I should have never doubted Jamie.

How about this solution? http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?i=5961428 http://www.flickr.com/photos/100586330@N06/10162147153/ Edited by satly

That is how I would arrange them. Maybe throw GG out. Or put it beside the TH. I just realised how ridiculously high it is!

They really look so cool one next to each other, thanks for posting this.

And like everyone else I cant wait to have this set. :excited:

The NZ (New Zealand) price appears to be $300 NZD from the lego shop... I love this series, and this one looks great like the others in the series; though I might need to get a second job to keep up with all the sets I want.

p.s. $250 AUD for our mates across the ditch ;)

The Parisien Restaurant is on the Shop at Home site.. in the discription is: "Intricate exterior details include facade with croissant detailing, bus stop, sidewalk, scooter and even a dumpster and trash can at the back"

Has anyone already discovered the bus stop????

Its the same Bus Stop that Café Corner has! The little bench!

, well, okay... so it is only a bench.. in the climate that we experience here in Holland today, you will need more than a bench to have people to take the bus..it need to protect people from wind and rain.. that's why i couldn't find it... :sceptic:

Grogall, thankx! Now we only have to find the seagull... maybe it is a contest... or we have to think out of the box to find it... The one who can find the seagull gets a free admittance to the Lego factory and may shop for free for 5 minits.... :sweet:

I went to my local LEGO store in Massachusetts yesterday -- and found out that Jamie had been in there not an hour earlier! (He apparently used to work there). I could have asked him drectly about the seagull!

It's a beautiful building. The ppp and interior detailing more than make up for the smaler statute -- which I think is perceived more because of the patio than the actual height. You could string some lights across the top of the pati for some true al fresco feel -- and I think it's nice to have something in the back of the row.

It's a nice "solution", but not very realistic. The only way to get to the artists studio is by crossing the floor below.

Perhaps the floor above the couples apartment could be an apartment that belongs to the artist? It was just a quick picture to demonstrate that it still can be a modular building in the sense that you can still stack multiples of the middle floor :classic:

I was fortunate enough to see this unveiled in person by Jamie Berard himself this past weekend at BrickCon in Seattle, WA. I had a few minutes to look at the actual set, and it is truly lovely. If anyone is wondering, the reason Jamie wasn't as involved in the last two modular sets is that he was very busy designing the Sydney Opera House, which he also talked about at the Con. It was a great weekend, a fantastic Convention, and as a plus, we had a surprise visitor on Saturday: Mr. Al Pacino. I didn't get to speak to him, but he passed me on several occasions while he took the opportunity to look at everyone's stuff before the public hours began.
