Rapseflaps Posted October 17, 2013 Posted October 17, 2013 That's really cool. Final design is better though. :) Quote
timmyc1983 Posted October 17, 2013 Posted October 17, 2013 I would like to echo everyone's sentiments here, it really shows the true spirit of this community that you would respond to concerns the way you did Jamie, good on you!! I'm glad to be part of this fantastic community and share in the inspiration I get from the LEGO sets and from other people's MOCs! Keep up the great work Jamie and everyone!!! Quote
Aanchir Posted October 17, 2013 Posted October 17, 2013 I think the real message we can get from Jamie's post is that the LEGO designers actually DO pay close attention to how their models are received by the community. The concerns Jamie was responding to weren't the kind that erupts into a huge controversy on every major LEGO blog. It was just one member's personal worries about the possibility of one of their building techniques being borrowed without informing them. But obviously it still came to Jamie's attention and he quickly showed up to lay those concerns to rest. I'm sure the LEGO designers are grateful that a community like the AFOL community exists to provide detailed, insightful feedback to every detail of their models, but we should also be grateful that the LEGO designers so value the opinions of the community and aren't just content drawing all their conclusions on what they do right or wrong from objective sales data. Jasper Joppe Geers Posted October 17, 2013 Posted October 17, 2013 (edited) Hi Aanchir, Many thanks to you and the others for the replies, i'm really grateful. I was also rewarded a personal message from Jamie, which only shows how kind a guy he is. He doesn't usually visit our forum that often, and to respond to a particular messsage is very, very kind. The fact that he went so far to take the trouble of posting his feathered version of the Green Grocer makes me blush on the cheeks, and I never wanted to take this duscussion so far. My initial response to this set was and still is a very positive one! I really envy Jamie's work, and can only hope that one day i'll make it at the designers team. haha. The use of the feather technique felt first to me like a compliment. The whole discussion if this was his or mine idea first is a rediculous one, and not constructive. I'm only sorry that my feelings about the feather technique was understood as some sort of disappointment and frustration, I was just in two ways about it. I know now that this idea spent some time on his desk being unused, even before i created my Police station Moc, and i simply can not know what ideas he has on his desk anyway. He's very good in keeping secrets! In my mind, the use of someone else ideas is a great compliment and recognition, and that is how it should be. I think i have my lesson learned now, and i'm very grateful for that. And, i think at this point Rick would perhaps say: Back on topic now please! Cheers, JJ. kevin8 Posted October 17, 2013 Posted October 17, 2013 Jasper, anyway, you had a great idea for that kind of decoration... and your Moc is simply great... Quote
Captain Settle Posted October 21, 2013 Posted October 21, 2013 Aww man... I was about to go into a dark age, which I was happy to do due to the aspect of saving money, and then I log on and see this masterpiece. Well I have to buy it. Quote
badbob001 Posted October 21, 2013 Posted October 21, 2013 I recently came out of my dark ages and wanted to start off slowly and concisely by just collecting minifigures. I always admired the modular building sets and thought they were too big of a jump for me at this point. But then news of this beautiful Parisian Restaurant comes out and even before I can even get the set, I already own much of the previous modular sets. Damn you LEGO, damn you. Quote
merman Posted October 22, 2013 Posted October 22, 2013 Well I had a discussion the other day when I walked the canals of Amsterdam (where I live), how great it would be to have an Amsterdam modular. I am a huge fan of Jamie's work, because he really demonstrates the possibilities with Lego are endless. Maybe he and JJ could work together on an Amsterdam modular... I wanted to express my thanks to Jamie in PM but he probably reveives tons of those and it is a bit fan-freakish also... Quote

The 10190 modular was already some kind of amsterdan modular.. so, i guess they prefer other type of buildings first... Quote

I have always wanted to see Alois' Cafe 't Hoekje released as an official Lego set. One of my absolutely favorite modulars I've seen. Quote
ritzcrackerman Posted October 23, 2013 Posted October 23, 2013 Is it any wonder why Jamie is a rockstar in the AFOL world? That was an exceptionally courteous response. Quote
Wodanis Posted October 23, 2013 Posted October 23, 2013 (edited) It was truly nice to see Jamie responding. I'm always intrigued by other design concepts behind the scenes. In fact the alternate GG is pretty cool to see and one can tell how the concept works only so far before Jamie needed a rethink with part of the design. Jasper you definitely inspire me with some of your works so keep on building! I'm really excited to get my hands on the Parisian Restaurant and see the build for myself Edited October 23, 2013 by Wodanis Quote
TheLazyChicken Posted November 2, 2013 Posted November 2, 2013 I just want to let you know that I found out where the hot dogs are, they are in the dumpster bin. There is also a review on it on brickset. (Sorry for no links, I really don't know how to post them on my iphone) Quote
jfbat Posted November 2, 2013 Posted November 2, 2013 Here are the links to Brickset, which apparently has already received a set (am I wrong in thinking a review wil be posted here as well in the near future?) Review: 10243 Parisian Restaurant, part 1 Review: 10243 Parisian Restaurant, part 2 Quote
SwissBrick Posted November 2, 2013 Posted November 2, 2013 Thanks a lot jfbat & TheLazyChicken, bet there is a high hitrate at brickset now... Anyhow, the review just confirmed my will to get it, and not just one... Quote
eurotrash Posted November 2, 2013 Posted November 2, 2013 Dang! That review and the accompanying pictures have just increased my need for this set by a factor of 10! Quote
ShaydDeGrai Posted November 3, 2013 Posted November 3, 2013 Dang! That review and the accompanying pictures have just increased my need for this set by a factor of 10! You are not alone - this has the makings of a real gem. Quote
technicmad Posted November 3, 2013 Posted November 3, 2013 Hi, hope you don't mind if I drop a link to my pre-release review of this great set http://rebrickable.com/blog/2013/review-10243-parisian-restaurant Quote
Darth Kram Posted November 3, 2013 Posted November 3, 2013 (edited) Great review, thanks. If only it didn't come out just after Christmas when I will have already spent a lot of money on presents! Looks like I'll be asking for gift vouchers this year! Edited November 4, 2013 by Darth Kram Quote
Roebuck Posted November 3, 2013 Posted November 3, 2013 The only complaint I have with this set is that we did not get he promised seagull apparently We can only hope the realise there mistake and do like they did with the admiral daughter’s extra dress in imperial flagship 10210 Quote
Roger_Smith Posted November 3, 2013 Posted November 3, 2013 Wow, now I want this set even more. The amount of details is breathtaking. Having the 1x1s beneath the outside seating area spell out "CHEZ", for example, that's something no one will ever notice in the finished set, yet it's such a great detail that shows just how much thought they put into this. Also, I only just now noticed that they used a gate as a shade over the outside seating area. Me want now! :D Quote

The same thing was done with the Corner Cafe (of course, it's by the same designer): Quote
kermit Posted November 4, 2013 Posted November 4, 2013 I just saw the review of this model on brickset and no seagull was present in the set. Quote
Temet Nosce Posted November 5, 2013 Posted November 5, 2013 It looks like the best modular set by a mile. I don't mind that it is slightly thinner, I think the details and the fact it isn't a full 32 stud wide all add to the charm of it. I still need the Town hall and Cinema for my collection, but this is a day one must buy for me! Quote
Cwetqo Posted November 7, 2013 Posted November 7, 2013 We got this (I dont know if it was already posted here): On behalf of the LEGO Creator Expert Team:“The Creator Expert team would like to thank you for helping us communicate the launch of 10243 Parisian restaurant. As careful as we were trying to provide you with as many details as possible, we seem to have overlooked one inaccuracy in regards to the set having a seagull. The seagull was indeed included in an earlier version of the model, but was later swapped out so that we could include other details like the wedding ring instead. Hopefully you’ll agree the proposal scene helps our story more than the seagull. We apologize for the confusion and have updated the text on LEGO.com to hopefully avoid further confusion. http://shop.lego.com/en-US/Parisian-Res ... ng=listing Kind regards and many thanks for your enthusiastic support of the Creator Expert line, The Creator Expert Team” Quote
