Okay, now I can talk about this set! Wow... what a set. This is probably my favorite modular. There's so much stuff going on. I was disappointed by the last two modulars, but this definitely made up. I love the olive color scheme, the dinning area, the outer stairs, the baseplate, the rolling pin, the fact that there is a frickin' adorable story behind the set, and so on.

The $10 price raise is inconsistent, but that kind of went for the Town Hall set. Additionally, the fact that it's coming out in January might mean that I'll be able to get it for my birthday if there is an early release in December! :sweet:

Also, loving the new moped and flower-pot pieces. :classic:

I'll bet your picture on here will be Twitch and the Pretzel Girl standing in front of this building once you get it!

Next modular : A school! That would be totally awesome!

forgive me for bringing this up, but this set really makes me think whether Jamie created this by himself,

or with (a lot of) inspiration from the AFOL community. When i look at those gray feathers close to the roof,

it looks very similar to the ones in my police station Moc a few years ago (check Muntstraat Police HQ if you like)

It feels a bit like he used my idea, which should be some sort of compiment i suppose?...

The images of your moc are no longer avaible, so we can't say anything to your assertion.

Now it's gonna be that! Thanks for the idea!

Hmm, does that count as a government building?

Still keeping track...

2007 - CC - business/corner

2008 - GG - business/residential

2009 - FB - govt

2010 - GE - business/corner

2011 - PS - business/residential

2012 - TH - govt

2013 - PC - business/corner

2014 - PR - business/residential

2015 - hmmm

Wow! LEGO Creator has done a great job with this set. I really like the detail on the roof. Not sure what the white crossants are doing on the roof though... LOL

Two things about this set:

One, it is a restaurant just like a lot of the ones my wife has worked at (she's a chef), so maybe she will be convinced that the $160 will be well spent, as opposed to something like a train or a big castle.

Two, yay for the scooter.

OH, AND BTW, MOST INCREDIBLE LEGO SET EVER.

The only problem I can see in this set is that if it is connected to another building the window on the wall with the stairs will get covered up.

It looks like it's placed in such a way that it isn't covered up by the walls of most Modulars, which are roughly 16 studs deep, with about 8 studs of free space in the front and back of the building.

Ok, a lovely set i must say, really wonderful to look at and a great joy to build but...

Do you feel wronged by this? Let's look at the facts:

1. Jamie Berard is an Eurobricks member, your buildings got quite a lot of attention on Eurobricks, so chances are that he's seen them (and admired them)

2. Lego has a finite number of pieces, so people are bound to come up with the same solutions again and again (see the controversy surroundig the haunted house and an earlier MOC)

3. Even if Jamie was inspired by earlier MOCs regarding some details on this building, it's still completely his creation (and yes, I know, a lot more people are involved with creating a set like this in Billund). All artist get their inspiration from other artworks. And isn't that one of the reasons we post MOCs on Eurobricks?

4. Lego will never aknowledge aftewards that they've used a certain MOC as inspiration (unless it's cusoo, of course)

So you'll never know, but needn't feel bad about it, I think.

Well, the colour scheme might not be the most obvious one would expect from a building in Paris, but I'm loving it!

Inside and out, colour combinations, everything just works.

And besides, one can't keep building tan buildings forever, now can one?

Looking at the list of wooootles above, 2015 building should be government. Bank, School or Post office? White would be nice. There's no white building yet. But first, we wait for this one. I can buy this for my wife (and myself!) for Christmas, with a bit of luck.

Until then, we keep on MOC-ing.

But why do they use the dull 'classic' minifig faces for modulars?

I like the new facial expressions of modern sets much better!

This is one we noticed as well. Pity!

We might have to replace them ourselves.

I mean, a smiling waiter? In Paris?

Good point Alois, i don't feel wronged about this, but like you said, i don't know how to feel happy about it either. Let's leave it, and again, forgive me for bringing this up.

Cheers,

JJ

The price is ridiculously to high. This is a 100EUR set. Nice set otherwise.

It's in the same pricerange as the previous sets and I read that the price per brick is lower.

The set seems smaller that the first ones, but the amount of details is much higher.

So I disagree that this is a 100 EUR set, should it be a 100EUR you wouldn't get all the details in the set.

Now that I've had a day to look at it and the initial excitement of having a new modular building has worn off ( and exercising the typical American politicians right to 'flip-flop') my eye is a bit more critical. Really don't like the white and the detail on the top, front level. I think the following definition applies to that area of the building:

gild the lily

1. To adorn unnecessarily something already beautiful.

2. To make superfluous additions to what is already complete.

I also see some comments about the outside of the building being given less attention than on previous modulars with added stress placed on the interior. I hope this trend doesn't continue. My main interest is in the building design and not the interior. It's sort of like when I watch one of those shows on HGTV and the hosts have a budget to redo a property. They spend a lot of the budget on furniture and non building components. That adds no value to the building. I want the effort and expense dedicated to the building and not the furniture or interior details.

I also think the door to nowhere on the back, second level doesn't make a lot of sense despite some of the rationalizations that I've seen for to design component.

And, given the detail on the side of the building, this is, for all practical purposes, another corner building.

As far as ranking it, at this point I would put it ahead of MS (which some don't consider a modular), CC and FB. I definitely don't like it as much as GG , GE and PS.

I hope my comments, while they probably are a minority view at this time, will stimulate some more discussion based on having a bit of time for the design to have 'soaked in'.

Wow, wow, wow.

Amazing. and those printed tiles... and that scooter. Not to mention all those other details.

I don't hink I have been so pleasantly surprised by a new LEGO set for some time.

You touched on something I see nothing wrong with. I feel completely okay if others get inspiration from others - especially LEGO and other members of the community. As long as LEGO builds on, and grows with, our building techniques - we grow on each other. And I would want LEGO to continue building off our ideas so they can keep creating models that have our taste and interest...like this model.

I'm just happy we have someone like Jamie to keep giving us amazing sets :)

just my 2 cents...

Well I have one complaint. Don't get me wrong, I love this set, must own it.

But why do they use the dull 'classic' minifig faces for modulars?

I like the new facial expressions of modern sets much better!

I really like the way they keep the classic faces on the modular series. On the same token as the way they avoid using stickers in the modulars... And isn't this one of the reasons people don't consider Market Street a real modular building...?

are the only things missing in this set, and will be substituted really quickly when I get it.

Don't get me wrong, I love the classic smiley faces as much as anybody, but they feel at home in the 80s.

I love the classic smiley face. I replaced the new faces with all classic smiley in my town. The great thing about Lego is you can custom a set to your liking, you don't have stick with what's provided in the box.

Don't like something? MOD it to your personal tastes. :classic:

Google "french balcony" and I think you'll see what Lego intended to do with that "door to nowhere"... ;)

Don't get me wrong, I'd gladly choose modern-day minifigure faces over classic minifigure faces in a heartbeat. The little sparkle in their eyes and the more dynamic facial expressions (eyebrows on modern figs are pretty much standard, not a variant like they were back in the day) add a whole other level of liveliness to minifigure design.

But at the same time, I like that the modular buildings use classic smiley faces. It creates a sense of unity among those sets (well, all but Market Street, anyway) and sets them apart from LEGO City. It also helps to reinforce the idea that the modular buildings are about the construction of the sets, rather than being character-driven like Star Wars or Ninjago. And finally, it lends them a remarkable sense of retro chic. Even if the buildings themselves are nothing like what we'd have seen in sets from the 80s, there's that prevailing sense that the sets hearken back to an earlier era.
