Jim Posted August 28, 2013 Posted August 28, 2013 I'm also stil following BricxCC, as I enjoyed using NXC a lot! I'm also sure that it's just a matter of time before the alternative programming environments will be launched. LeJOS is already compatible with the EV3 and working very well! However, not easy to install on your own EV3 at the moment I have been looking into LeJos as well, but I don't want to start messing around with Linux and stuff. Installing another Firmware is fine, but I would like to do this with the push of a button Quote
Ramacco Posted August 28, 2013 Posted August 28, 2013 That's what I'm hoping that will come in the near future! I also do not want to use linux and command line etc.. Just plug and play, as it was with NXJ. I hope that it is just a matter of time before it will be implemented.. Quote
Ramacco Posted August 28, 2013 Posted August 28, 2013 (edited) Sorry for the double post, but regarding the firmware version from LeJOS: ' Will we always have to be messing around with linux in a VM & SD card etc to program using LeJOS? Or is this just for the time it is in development? I don't mind using another firmware, but I like the compile and run as it was with the NXT. Even in the future, you will have to use an SD card. But we're looking for ways to install leJOS on an SD card from other OS like Windows and OS X. HERE Edited August 28, 2013 by Ramacco Quote
shifted Posted August 28, 2013 Posted August 28, 2013 (edited) Thanks for the gyro sensor help back on page 12. I'm going to rebuild Gyro Boy again when I can and probably even get it to work this time! If you program a Motor Sensor and a Play Note to loop, wiring the rotation of the motor to the frequency of a note repeating every .01 seconds, you get an awesome sound as your vehicles speeds off that sounds exactly like the GI Joe jet toy I had as a kid! Keep the volume under 10 though Just turn on the motor while this is running, and make sure that final Note setting is on 2! Edited August 28, 2013 by shifted Quote
Ramacco Posted August 29, 2013 Posted August 29, 2013 The day has come! http://www.lego.com/en-us/mindstorms/?domainredir=lego.com Download your EV3 retail software here for FREE :) Quote
MinusZwei Posted August 29, 2013 Posted August 29, 2013 Finally!! Ted, could you check if the intelligent brick that comes with an Education kit can be controlled using the retail software ? Quote
Jim Posted August 29, 2013 Posted August 29, 2013 Will check in a bit Should work but you might need to install retail firmware. Although I think it will work with both Quote
Jim Posted August 29, 2013 Posted August 29, 2013 It seems to work fine! But like expected it's missing the educational sensor blocks and you can't start an experiment (data logging). Quote
Ramacco Posted August 29, 2013 Posted August 29, 2013 (edited) If your EV3 hasn't arrived yet, you can now explore the cool set through LDD!! http://ldd.lego.com/...ges/mindstorms/ (download button in the upper right corner - if you have the previous version of LDD installed, it should update automatically when you open it). Jim Posted August 29, 2013 Posted August 29, 2013 I can also open a program made with the educational version and I see the Ultra Sonic sensor appear normally in a block. So the sensor blocks are in the software, but the user interface is limited to the retail sensors. Seems logical. So I can create a program with all the educational sensors in it and share it with you guys. Then you will be able to copy and paste the sensors Quote
Ramacco Posted August 29, 2013 Posted August 29, 2013 @Ted: Can't you make a program for the ultrasonic sensor by installing these blocks: http://www.lego.com/en-us/mindstorms/downloads/software/ddsoftwaredownload/ And it is logic that you can open EDU programs in retail, since both have the same .ev3 extension (I have both version running as well) Quote
Jim Posted August 29, 2013 Posted August 29, 2013 Here you go: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/2310768/Sensors.ev3 Let me know if this works please @Ted: Can't you make a program for the ultrasonic sensor by installing these blocks: http://www.lego.com/...ftwaredownload/ And it is logic that you can open EDU programs in retail, since both have the same .ev3 extension (I have both version running as well) I think I just did Quote
MinusZwei Posted August 29, 2013 Posted August 29, 2013 For the additional sensors, you have to download the blocks from LEGO.com directly: - http://www.lego.com/de-de/mindstorms/downloads/ev3-blocks/ultrasonic/ - http://www.lego.com/de-de/mindstorms/downloads/ev3-blocks/gyro/ Quote

But I am glad it's working! For the additional sensors, you have to download the blocks from LEGO.com directly: - http://www.lego.com/...cks/ultrasonic/ - http://www.lego.com/...v3-blocks/gyro/ Ahhh even better. Immediately avaiable. Great So we are all good?!?! Quote
Ramacco Posted August 29, 2013 Posted August 29, 2013 (edited) So your program opened in the EDU version, there I can see the infrad sensor and the gyro etc. Same works for retail. Haven't installed the blocks myself (no time atm), but I'm sure you are able to program ALL sensor with the free software, but you won't be able to use datalogging (which I don't use that often) Having the same extension doesn't automatically means they are compliant. But I am glad it's working! I know, but I seemed logic to me that LEGO provided this feature. Otherwise you need to install retail software if you have already the edu. (was the same with the NXT if I'm correct) Edited August 29, 2013 by Ramacco Quote
Jim Posted August 29, 2013 Posted August 29, 2013 (edited) It's indeed what to expect, but you never know So the separate downloads are just to unlock the user interface. I am glad I spent a lot of money on the edu software. Data logging FTW Edited August 29, 2013 by Ted Quote
Ramacco Posted August 29, 2013 Posted August 29, 2013 Haha, but you were able to start programming 1,5 week earlier! I had those software running in Beta from begin July Quote

MinusZwei Posted August 29, 2013 Posted August 29, 2013 So we are all good?!?! Since you are saying that you can program the EDU brick with retail software, I just ordered myself a core kit from Netherlands :) Quote
Jim Posted August 29, 2013 Posted August 29, 2013 Thumbs up! You won't regret it. Very nice kit! The brick is the same so why not! You can install the retail firmware with limited logging options. Might save some memory. Quote
Phoxtane Posted August 30, 2013 Posted August 30, 2013 White parts will come down in price on Bricklink now! Awesome! Quote
