Jim Posted October 16, 2013 Posted October 16, 2013 This wonderful book is avaiable, at least the eBook is available for download. I have browsed and it seems like a wonderful book for the novice to intermediate Mindstorms builder. http://nostarch.com/ev3lab Quote
DrJB Posted October 17, 2013 Posted October 17, 2013 Just got an email, then checked legoEDU website. For those interested in the NXT EDU box, it is on sale on the EDU website. Quote
Jim Posted October 17, 2013 Posted October 17, 2013 Moved your post to the general discussion DrJB. Quote
DrJB Posted October 28, 2013 Posted October 28, 2013 (edited) I stumbled upon a youtube educational video where one can do data logging with the NXT. I tried my 'retail' version of NXT-G but could not find such functionality. The question then is: is there a difference between NXT-G EDU vs. retail versions? I thought they were identical and such 'differentiation' was on EV3 only .... Anyone can shed some light? Also, what does it take to do data logging on the NXT, purchase software from Lego EDU ? Edited October 28, 2013 by DrJB Quote
Conchas Posted October 28, 2013 Posted October 28, 2013 The difference was already present in NXT. You need the EDU software to access the data logging functionality. Quote
Philo Posted October 28, 2013 Posted October 28, 2013 OTOH even with retail version you can save files with sensor data. Program is a bit less obvious, but pretty feasible (and actually more flexible). Quote
peter_m Posted November 18, 2013 Posted November 18, 2013 I have bought EV3 Education for $323 - which for Poland seems to be quite good price. Do you think that IR Beacon and sensor will be soon available via S@H? I know that they are available on bricklink, but bricklink will not accept my VIP points :P Quote

Could be tomorrow, could be somewhere next year. Nice to hear you bought the EV3 set btw Quote
peter_m Posted November 18, 2013 Posted November 18, 2013 Nice to hear you bought the EV3 set btw That's not what my fiancé said ;) Quote
Jim Posted November 18, 2013 Posted November 18, 2013 That's not what my fiancé said ;) You can buy a retail set as well. Your fiance will understand that you really need those beacons Quote
peter_m Posted November 19, 2013 Posted November 19, 2013 Ahh... This is not good. My 45544 has been delivered - but inside instead of rechargeable battery I have found a notice from TLG that they have found an error in circuit and removed the battery from all of the sets. And that they will provide it later... to the ones that have ordered the sets from them. I will probably not be able to force the guy I bought it from to send it to me when he gets it (if he gets it). Blah... I should have bought 31313 :( Quote
Cwetqo Posted November 19, 2013 Posted November 19, 2013 Thats strange. I got 45544 directly from importer last week and it had rechargeable battery inside. But its obvious that it has problems, because it was not powerful enough to properly drive gyro boy (other models are not that sensible). OK, it worked, but results were much better with regular 9v batteries. peter_m: i would not worry too much: I also bouth 8043 (excavator) second hand and when they had problems with linear actuators, i just filled out complaint form on lego.com an got new ones in few days. I dont know if its different with education sets, but it would be very hard to track customers who bought sets in regular store (no one lefts his adress at TRU or other shop). Did you get special code or something? If not, even note about missing battery could be proof that you didnt get one. I wou speak with local importer if I were you. Quote
Jim Posted November 19, 2013 Posted November 19, 2013 The note might be enough! Just scan it and send it to customer service with your address, stating that you regret the battery issue, but that you are looking forward to using their great product and will be eagerly awaiting the new battery. peter_m Posted November 19, 2013 Posted November 19, 2013 Thanks for advices! I was planning to call customer support, to ask what should I do in my case - I had quite a few discussions with them lately (regarding S@H orders etc.) and they always were super helpful. Do you think that I should mention that I have bought the set from 'unauthorized' source? Quote
Jim Posted November 19, 2013 Posted November 19, 2013 Not sure. They might ask you, because it's an educational version. You can honestly explain the situation.... Let's hear what others think Quote
peter_m Posted November 20, 2013 Posted November 20, 2013 I called Lego support today. The lady told me that they will do their best to send me the battery :). They will start sending replacement batteries in 10-14 days. Quote

peter_m Posted November 20, 2013 Posted November 20, 2013 Nice! What have you told them? That I have bought sets (yes, now it is 2 of them :P) from unauthorized source and I doubt my source (private person) will get the replacement batteries for the sets he sells. Quote
DrJB Posted November 20, 2013 Posted November 20, 2013 (edited) If the sets you bought were new/sealed and no one tampered (tried to open) the batteries, then I am not sure the 'non authorized source' argument holds. What if I receive a set as a gift (for christmas) and it has a defective battery. I do not have the receipt, does this mean Lego will not replace the defective part? As long as the defective parts are genuine Lego (anf they may ask that you send them back), you should qualify for a free replacement. Edited November 20, 2013 by DrJB Quote

True, but I have bought EV3 Education Core Set - which theoretically should not be widely available. Edited November 20, 2013 by peter_m Quote
DrJB Posted November 21, 2013 Posted November 21, 2013 I'm not sure I 'agree' with that. I have purchased many items from the Lego Education site 'directly' ... as an end-user. I do not work for any school and my understanding is that Lego sells to whoever has $$$ to spend. Thus, I would not be too concerned to tell the story as it is. Let us know what you find out, either way. Quote
peter_m Posted December 5, 2013 Posted December 5, 2013 (edited) I called Lego support today - and they told me that the sets I have bought were not supposed to appear on European market and I will not get the batteries... :( Any ideas what can I do about it? Edited December 5, 2013 by peter_m Quote
Lighti Posted December 5, 2013 Posted December 5, 2013 hmm, maybe try to find a fellow helpful EB member living in the US trying to get the batteries for you, and then mail them. (pretty strange that lego doesn't sell those education sets in europe, and make such a big deal about it) Quote
