Jim Posted February 20, 2013 Posted February 20, 2013 (edited) Wow. Why doesn't Lee do something like that which you could build from only 10 core sets, and 20 expansion kits? I have decided that this year I will be buying the education edition of EV3 with software, 1 expansion kit, 1 IR Sensor, 1 IR Beacon, and 1 more Medium motor to fill that Port D... All for a grand total of $615... Maybe we can join forces hehe I am planning on buying two retail sets, 2 extra M motors, 2 extra IR Beacons and some extra wires etc Regarding the other parts needed, the red panels and grey frames, etc, I can probably go halfway with my current inventory Although I am more interested in instructions for EVan. I have many sets(8285,8258,8969,8043,8110,8051,8067,8261,9392,9394,9396,8081,NXT 2.0+rechargeablebattery+compass and gyro sensor+ FLL board from 2011) but not near enough parts and not the right parts to build EVan... With 2 retail sets, you will have 2x the software. Maybe you could send me the extra. And I could save $100... I could give you an e motor for it... BTW, sounds like you will have a superb EVertime! Jim Posted February 20, 2013 Posted February 20, 2013 Looks like we have a lot of the same sets Getting the retail version twice is just because it's easier to get a hold of. I will PM you about the software Since I saw the color scheme of the EV3 set, I have started collecting black and white panels. Nowhere near enough for EVan, but you have to start somewhere. Really looking forward to my EVertime Quote
Ramacco Posted February 20, 2013 Posted February 20, 2013 @Potry: Why do you want the software on dvd? It will be downloadable online for free from the LEGO website. About the Dragon: It uses 6 EV3's and 18 motors if I remember correctly. Quote
Burf2000 Posted February 20, 2013 Posted February 20, 2013 Hey guys, I have just come back from LEGOWorld as I was part of the MINDSTORMS EV3 stand so if you have any questions, I will try to answer them. They had a lovely swarm WIFI demo! and some really cool remote control Android examples. The new Autodesk iPad app for building the models was very nice to. Quote
AVCampos Posted February 20, 2013 Posted February 20, 2013 I have one! (a question, not an EV3) Just as there's an instructions app for iPad, will there be one for Android tablets too? Quote

I don't think it will be free: http://www.legoeducation.us/eng/product/ev3_software/2577 Or is the educational version cost and the retail version free??? That would save some money.@Gekke Ted: I just saw that you are in the Netherlands, so shipping would be outrageous from me in the usa... Quote
Burf2000 Posted February 21, 2013 Posted February 21, 2013 Good question, I assume they will do a Android tablet app but that can be a pain due to the different screen resolutions and hardware spec Quote
DraikNova Posted February 21, 2013 Posted February 21, 2013 The software is free, check the discussion from a while back. Quote
Ramacco Posted February 24, 2013 Posted February 24, 2013 Today I went to Goes, Martyn and friends showed EV3 and it was the first time I build and programmed something with EV3! I also showed some robots there, but those are not in the video. Quote
Carsten Svendsen Posted March 1, 2013 Posted March 1, 2013 Speaking of NXT, check out this site I just found. It has got so many awesome things for any NXT http://www.active-robots.com/robots/lego-mindstorms-nxt-accessories Quote
Crazydance Posted March 1, 2013 Posted March 1, 2013 Only one question... PS has a remote... WHERE IS IT FOR EV3? Robotics are cool but look at the tracked contraption... Should have been nice if that had a manual mode as well. But you never know. Maybe it will be possible in the future :) Quote

Carsten Svendsen Posted April 24, 2013 Posted April 24, 2013 Can someone tell me how that chain link can sit in the middle? Quote
legolijntje Posted April 24, 2013 Posted April 24, 2013 I think it is connected to 1 or 2 other chain links whereas the last one is connected to a beam using 2 1-1/2 pins. Quote
Carsten Svendsen Posted April 24, 2013 Posted April 24, 2013 Oh great, now I can't find the image 'cause it was too big for some people living in the stone age with a 1024x768 monitor Quote
legolijntje Posted April 24, 2013 Posted April 24, 2013 It's just a text link in the post: http://cdn-ci24.actonsoftware.com/acton/attachment/2543/f-010a/1/-/-/-/-/image.jpg And it was not too big for people with a 1025x768 monitor, the image is 2000x2645 pixels, so it is too big for any screen unless you got one of the new 4k screens. DLuders Posted May 18, 2013 Posted May 18, 2013 (edited) "Electric guitar, dinosaur top new Lego Mindstorms EV3 models" "Lego will soon launch its programmable robotics platform's third generation, with 17 models, 12 of which are community created. Lego showed off three of the best of those 12. "SAN FRANCISCO--If you don't think a playable Lego electric guitar, complete with the ability to play different notes and adjust pitch, is possible, you don't have enough faith. "Later this year, Lego will launch the third generation of its popular Mindstorms programmable robotics platform. Known as EV3, the third-generation kit will come with plans for 17 different models. But 12 of those models were created by members of an elite, hand-picked, team of Lego community members. "Now, with the eighth-annual Maker Faire hitting the San Francisco Bay Area this weekend, Lego is unveiling three of the 12 community-created models: an electric guitar, a triceratops, and what amounts to a whack-a-mole arcade game. "At a demonstration here earlier this week, Lasse Stenbæk Lauesen, a software and applications developer for the Mindstorms program showed off the three models. One of them, he modestly noted, was his, created when he was a member of the expert panel that chose the 12 models. Since then, he's joined the mother Lego ship at headquarters in Billund, Denmark. His triceratops was designed to recoil and roar when someone puts a hand in front of it. "Lego plans on unveiling the remaining nine community-created models over the summer, most likely in conjunction with the SparkTruck, a sort-of Maker Faire on wheels that is touring the United States this summer. "And, of course, given that the Mindstorms EV3 platform is all about giving people -- kids and adults alike -- the ability to create their own programmable robots, there's little doubt that within days, or even hours, of the platform's launch, the number of models will expand quickly from 17 to nearly infinite. "But for now, it's worth appreciating the idea of a playable Lego electric guitar. Even if it can't quite menace you the way a triceratops can." Edited May 18, 2013 by DLuders Quote
Someonenamedjon Posted May 19, 2013 Posted May 19, 2013 I wounder if the psp controller would work with the ev3 (http://mindsensors.com/index.php?module=pagemaster&PAGE_user_op=view_page&PAGE_id=84), by the way, my robofest team only got 3rd place in the world competition because the metal detector was not on If i had won first my team would have received an ev3 at the spot Quote
