When is the Entry topic going to be created? I think I will try this...(though I hardly think I can match all these people!) Hmmm.... All kinds of ideas...

And I am guessing that you are not allowed to use Lego CAD programs?

Posted

I also think it should be anonymous so it doesn't turn into a popularity contest. I.e. entries sent to the convenor of the competition who will then list it with some kind of generic code for identification purposes and no distinguishing text/logos/etc on the photos/videos.

It's veering more towards a 'max 1500 parts' now, I think it should rather be a definitive rule that puts the max level of on model at around 500 pieces.. So 500 + 500 + 500 is OK, 500 + 400 + 200 is OK etc, but not 700 + 300 + 500 ...

Just my 2 cents though, Jim makes the rules :classic:

Your two cents are exactly what the initial part count limit was all about! So let's stick to this.

Max 500 per model, but chain links and tracks don't count. As for the trailer....you can use less parts. The 500 is a max limit, no need to use them all.

I will create the entry topic in a bit.

No digital entries.

What does it mean by "Entries are to be placed in the Entry topic in this forum?"

Does that mean we should reply to this topic with our entry? Or start a new topic with [TRIPLE]?

I will create a new topic, where every contestant will make a post with their entry.

If you want to show your work in progress you can start a new topic, starting with [TRIPLE]. But don't forget to post your entry in the Entry topic!

Agreed. Any one model can only have 500 parts as originally stated (give or take a sensible leeway). If another model only uses 300 parts then that's fine, but you can't use the 200 allowance you've saved elsewhere.

You don't HAVE to use 1500 parts in total. If you only use 1000, that's fine.

Indeed!

Quick question... do all three models have to be made at once or can they be made separately and then LDD/POV-Ray renders etc used to present them on a suitable background? I'm not sure I have enough Lego to make all three models and may need to build each one individually and then deconstruct them to make the next one. I mean.. we seem to have half a room full of Lego but we've recently begun organising it so that my Sons and I can sit and build together, and to separate the Technic from the Bionicle from all the rest and the amount of Technic may not stretch that far and my budget won't extend to buying all the extra parts needed.

I would like to say that you are allowed to build them separately, but the contest is all about the three models working or acting together, so I'm afraid I need to say no. Sorry mate.

If you think out of the box, you might need very few parts for a great set!

It will be an open competition. You are all voting, so I'm counting on objective votes

We might do an anonymous contest in the future to see which setup is better. But part of the fun is the open spirit (imho).

edit:

ah i have a question:

should we make something with PF or something that can be "sold", meaning something not too expensive that kids can play with?

You can use max 500 PF motors per model

Just kidding. Read the rules and the rest of this topic and it will all be clear!

I'm expecting a lot from you

Game on!

Very interesting contest! And IMO the part number range hits the sweet spot between allowing for interesting models and vehicles, and not needing to be a LEGO millionaire to enter. But, due to time, unfortunately I won't be able to participate. Good luck to all!

As long as you don't create three similar models, like a blue, red and green car :sweet:

 But that would be invalid anyway, since it was (kinda) presented before.

Constructicons, assemble!

That post made my day! But be careful: it refers to a competitor...

I have a genius idea but I'm pretty sure that 10 other entries will have the same...

Are there any ideas how we can make sure ideas are not stolen? I mean what will be considered plagiarism? This "triple" theme idea is awesome, there's rooms for some very different and distinct ideas, but I fear many contestant-thought-unique ideas will be repeated.

Would the same basic idea (for example truck+trailer+car on top, or horse+car+driver) mean plagiarism?

The only thing I can see as a solution is a fixed and relatively late date when contestants can start publishing their builds (be it WIP or finished).

Well, maybe my whole question is stupid, and whoever posts his/her idea first is the idea "owner" and any other entries with the same idea are plagiarism.

That plagiarism thing... IMHO it is more about the execution. I expect a lot of variations of the same and it will be awesome to see how the same thing can be so different. But whoever is worried about originality can simply wait until the last day. Of course in the meantime someone can make a WIP with the same idea and then waiting will be moot point

This is a great challenge. Thanks for posting this. I will have to try to do something very unique, including a machine never done in Lego before. The part count might be a little bit of a challenge.

It seems like there have been an awful lot of questions, so I hate to add one more, but here goes:

We can include a video-presumably so we can show off the functions-but is there a time limit? Also, is there a restriction on video edits (cuts, transitions, voice-over, etc)? I'm not thinking of anything extravagant (I understand that the spirit of the competition is to show off our building skills, not our video editing skills), but I wanted to be on the safe side.

I guess that's two more. Thanks in advance!

Regarding the video....go nuts! Do a full-feature movie with real voice acting

(Do include some static pictures please)

Are we allowed to paint a certain Lego brick that we don't have the color for?

No painting. Chrome is an exception.

You could order the part, or make sure we don't notice

There's no owner of an idea. If you think your idea can be stolen, don't create a WIP topic. Easy as that.

And if I could compete, I would avoid the car and trailer concept

Not that I'm afraid that my idea is stolen, but I'm afraid that I can be accused for stealing if I post something after another similar entry.

But forget it, it's only my dumbness I guess, I was accused with stealing in the previous competition too.

This is a great contest, although I have no idea what exactly to build  good job there's a nice amount of time

Edit: would 500, 500, 100 be allowed?

As far as I'm concerned; when someone posts a WIP, their idea can be copied/stolen/borrowed. Posting a WIP is at your own risk. So don't worry about it too much.

Sure, no problem.

I got used to use lots of system pieces to give my models look of real machines. So I wonder if I could built those three models as mix of technic and system pieces (technic frame and mechanisms') with covering of system pieces, giving them more Model Team look?

Or it should be a model which uses only liftarm/technic bricks/panels to recreate the shape of machines?

What a great topic for a competition. I have a seed of an idea forming but whether when it grows it turns out to be a rose or a weed I'll have to see.

Any way, I'd like to wish all taking part the very best of luck.
