Sandy Posted January 26, 2014 Author Posted January 26, 2014 "It's a bar, of course we're going in.. oh, we're here. Hello Hathor! Any chance of a free drink?" Nyx smiles hopefully "Sorry, dearie, but you would have to make that dreadful desert go away before I would give you or anyone a free drink. I'm a businesswoman, after all." "Actually, we..." But Byblos doesn't have time to finish his sentence before the others rush outside. "Sorry Nyx, but I think you'll have to skip that drink. I'll get you one afterwards though. Now, to the abandoned house!" The party runs into the house that hides the portal to Eubric, and in a flash they are back at the Oracle's Shrine. There they are met by a tragic sight. "Boohoo! L-L-Liandra!!!" "There there, Sküld. Liandra is with our goddess now." The Oracle turns to the party, and they can see tears in her tired eyes as well. "My visions have returned. You were successful, then. To think my husband's corpse has been kept as a puppet by an archdemon through all these years..." What will the party do?
CMP Posted January 26, 2014 Posted January 26, 2014 Atramor paused on seeing the body on the ground of the shrine, grumbling to himself. "Damn it. What the hell happened? Did someone come out of the portal a minute ago? One with a torn cape and a hat, the other with a bandana and probably chasin' him?"
Sandy Posted January 26, 2014 Author Posted January 26, 2014 "Damn it. What the hell happened? Did someone come out of the portal a minute ago? One with a torn cape and a hat, the other with a bandana and probably chasin' him?" "I.. I... Boohoo!!!" "We did not see it happen. Sküld and I were at my private quarters when we heard Liandra shout, and as we rushed here, we saw her dead on the floor and the doors leading outside wide open. It was some minutes ago, but you will not catch the culprit. He will not be found again until the incident in Goetia. Who he is, my visions do not tell, but he is as dangerous as any carrier of a Pandemonicon." The Oracle gives Byblos a meaningful look. The Metasimian blushes. "Yes, about that... I am able to study the Pandemonicon from cover to cover now. It has finally let me in on it's secrets. It seems I am not as feeble as I thought I was. Thank you for trusting in me, San... err, Semiramis." "It was foretold. Not many things in this life are like that, but you, my dear librarian, have always carried this heavy responsiblity on your shoulders. That is why you were allowed to remain in Heroica despite your... failures." Byblos just nods, falling into a silent contemplation. The Oracle then takes off Liandra's cape and covers her face with it. "Thank you, everyone. Each one of you played an important part in this, not only Byblos. Knowing that my people have finally been avenged is.. pleasing, I must admit. As much as I hate my husband for what he did to Azzurat, I am glad that he has been sent to rest now. Sküld, please fetch the chest with the rewards." The sobbing altar girl does as she is asked, bringing back a small chest containing a bag of gold and a selection of scrolls. "The gold is yours to share as you see fit, but please choose just one scroll each." 1000 gold Scroll of Arc Sleep – Enables casting the sleep-effect to all enemies, forcing them to miss its turn for three rounds or until woken up by an attack. Each casting has a 1/2 chance of success and costs ether equal to the number of enemies. Usable only by job classes with ether. Scroll of Arc Blindness – Enables casting the blinded-effect to all enemies, making them unable to use a physical attack for the next three rounds. Each casting has a ½ chance of success and costs ether equal to the number of enemies. Usable only by job classes with ether. Scroll of Arc Sealing – Enables casting the sealed-effect to the all enemies, making them unable to use a special skill for the next three rounds. Each casting has a 1/2 chance of success and costs ether equal to the number of enemies. Usable only by job classes with ether. Scroll of Arc Confusion – Enables casting the confused-effect to all enemies for the next three rounds, during which they have a 50/50 chance of targeting an ally instead of its opponents. Each casting has a 1/2 chance of success and costs ether equal to the number of enemies. Usable only by job classes with ether. Scroll of Arc Frailty - Enables casting the fragile-effect to all enemies, causing them to take double damage for the next three rounds. Each casting has a 50/50 chance of success and costs ether equal to the number of enemies. Usable only by job classes with ether. Scroll of Arc Weakening - Enables casting the weakened-effect to all enemies, halving their level for the next three rounds. Each casting has a 50/50 chance of success and costs ether equal to the number of enemies. Usable only by job classes with ether. THE QUEST IS SUCCESSFUL!
CMP Posted January 26, 2014 Posted January 26, 2014 (edited) "Goetia...right." Atramor scratches his head. "How is it every other quest I'm on nowadays seems like it just points to a bigger one at some point in the future? But....ya' mentioned the Pandemonicon. Are ya' sayin' he had one at some point? Maybe he's the one who brought Airman here and controlled Namaah.....oh, right, speakin' of which, we killed the demon that Necub- Nebun- your husband brought outta Azazot as well, and Byblos kicked her back into her realm for good. And it seems like half the country's treasury got left behind when ya' fled, too." "Oh, and I'd like the Scroll of Arc Frailty." Edited January 26, 2014 by CallMePie
Quarryman Posted January 26, 2014 Posted January 26, 2014 "Oracle, in the ruins we found 1500 pieces of gold, which we think belongs to you and your people. I'm sure you can find something good to use it for." "I'd like a scroll of arc blindness, please." "And Byblos, I'd like my scrolls back please, you did put them to good use though, it helped us a lot during the various battles." "As for the 1000 gold reward.." "Byblos, I have a feeling you won't be needing an equal share of the gold now that you've mastered the Pandemonicon, so I think it's completely fair that the four of us split the gold. However, seeing as I paid for a cloak and a canteen for Byblos in Farzibar I'll subtract 152 (92+60) gold for that before splitting it, and Docken spent 80 gold to sober up our great guide, so he should get that back too. That leaves 768 gold to split, or 192 for each of us. However, Atramor and Nyx, I can't recall you ever paying me back for the cloaks I bought, so I'll subtract 92 gold for that from each of your payouts." "This leaves us with the following distribution of the 1000 gold:" Namyrra: 528 gold Docken: 272 gold Nyx: 100 gold Atramor: 100 gold. "I'll have to get back to you with the gold for items we can sell once I've been to the marketplace." (OoC: reading through the whole quest again to make sure all expenses are covered is rather boring I must say..)
Brickdoctor Posted January 26, 2014 Posted January 26, 2014 "Thank you, Miss Uq." "Oracle Semiramis, I'll take a Scroll of Arc Blinding, please."
Pandora Posted January 26, 2014 Posted January 26, 2014 "Oracle, Sküld, I'm so very sorry for your loss. If the opportunity arises where I can assist in hunting down the murderer, I'll be happy to burn him to oblivion for you." "Sorry Namyrra, I did indeed forget to pay you back for that cloak, but it looks like things have evened out now, thank you." Nyx pockets the gold. "Madame Oracle, do you have multiple copies of each scroll? If so, I would also like a scroll of arc weakening, and if not I would like the scroll of arc sealing. Thank you" Nyx bows deeply.
Sandy Posted January 26, 2014 Author Posted January 26, 2014 "Oracle, in the ruins we found 1500 pieces of gold, which we think belongs to you and your people. I'm sure you can find something good to use it for." "Oh, you did? I thank you for your honesty, but please, by all means keep it. I do not want any of my husband's possessions, not after he extorted the gold from our people with fire and blood. He was always an avaricious man, so it is no wonder the Archdemon of Greed found him to be such an easy target." "Madame Oracle, do you have multiple copies of each scroll?" "There is only one of each, I am sorry to say." QM Note: I'll post the final stats and some bonus pics after you've dealt the rest of the gold, but for now, thank you so much for participating in this quest! It was long, but I sincerely hope it was worth the time you spent on it.
Brickdoctor Posted January 26, 2014 Posted January 26, 2014 OoC: Do I need to pick a different scroll, then?
Sandy Posted January 26, 2014 Author Posted January 26, 2014 OoC: Do I need to pick a different scroll, then? QM Note: Yes, please. There is only six options to choose from, no multiples. Sorry I didn't clarify it from the start.
Quarryman Posted January 26, 2014 Posted January 26, 2014 "Thank you Madam Oracle, I'll do my best to put at least my part of the gold to good use supporting the local businessmen and -women here in Eubric." "So guys, I guess that's 375 gold more for each of us, can't say I'm unhappy about that."
Brickdoctor Posted January 26, 2014 Posted January 26, 2014 "I'll take the Scroll of Arc Sleep, then, Oracle Semiramis."
Pandora Posted January 27, 2014 Posted January 27, 2014 "There is only one of each, I am sorry to say." "Oh, that's ok, I'll just take the scroll of arc sealing, like I said, then." "So guys, I guess that's 375 gold more for each of us, can't say I'm unhappy about that." "Me either, Namyrra." Nyx grins, visibly happier at having a bit more gold than she originally thought.
Sandy Posted January 27, 2014 Author Posted January 27, 2014 The reward is divided, and Byblos returns Namyrra's scrolls. Namyrra then notices that something's amiss: the horde of undead are no longer following on her shadow. "Thank you again, for everything. No matter what my aunt says, I've had enough of outdoorsy life for the moment, so I will retreat into my library again - there's quite a mess I need to clean there. But before I go, I want you to do me a favor: come see me every once in a while, just to check if I have turned into a power-hungry maniac, alright?" The librarian grins playfully, but he knows he's only come past the first threshold in studying the Book of All Demons. What else the previously-sealed pages would reveal to him, he could not tell. When he walks out of the shrine, the Oracle looks after him. "Poor Byblos. He was never an adventurous sort, but what he went through in Azzurat is nothing compared to what awaits him in Goetia." Having had enough of mysteries for one day, the heroes departed for a well-earned rest - before their next adventure. Quarryman Posted January 28, 2014 Posted January 28, 2014 OoC: seems you added to Namyrra's gold without first subtracting the 1500 gold distributed to the party. So Namyrra's final gold should be 961.
