Mr Man Posted June 4, 2011 Posted June 4, 2011 Two questions actually: -Next year we do expect SW to hit cinemas again. Will the new films come in chronological order and annually? -Is the SW license to TLG being continued annually, too or have they taken it for a longer term? -Yes the Phantom Menace comes out in 2012, and they should follow chronologically every year from there. -As far as I am aware TLG renews the license annually. Lego Otaku Posted June 4, 2011 Posted June 4, 2011 Phantom Menace before A New Hope?? BLASPHEMY!!!! With the reissue of the movies (5th times for ANH I think), sale of Star Wars is sure to pick up and LEGO would be a fool to let license end before the movie's started. OK so there will be 3D movies, how can LEGO apply 3D to toys that are already 3D in nature? 4D LEGO that warps time so we could tell Lucas to dump Binks before starting on TPM Quote

As for Jar Jar, well, I'd just eliminate TPM altogether. The years between I and II are so many that both Anakin and Obi-Wan are completely new characters. It's a worthless story. Quote

Brickdoctor Posted June 4, 2011 Posted June 4, 2011 Pretty sure license has been renewed till 2016... That's correct. It'd be neat if TLG did 3D packaging or something for the sets, but I think they'll just stick to the norm. The content of the movies (hopefully) hasn't changed (or maybe I do hope certain parts would be changed, but that's for another thread). Quote
prateek Posted June 4, 2011 Posted June 4, 2011 I don't want Lego to do 3D packaging, as it will just drive up the already ridiculous prices! Quote
Ki-Adi-Mundi Posted June 4, 2011 Posted June 4, 2011 Thanks for the replies. I guess it's a fairly safe bet TLG will go on for the next years. One other thing bothers me: If someone wanted to get an older set that isn't available on the primary market anymore. Would it be possible to recreate the set by ordering all the necessary parts from TLG? Would that work via that CAD (eh, kind of...) program? Quote

Thanks. I will still try to have a look into it. Maybe this LDD can show whether my end can be met. Quote

StoutFiles Posted June 4, 2011 Posted June 4, 2011 (edited) Which makes me wonder - is buying all the parts for an old set off bricklink (minifigures and all) actually cheaper than buying a used copy? For example, if I wanted one of these... Depends how many sellers you have to go through because of shipping costs...but yeah, some sets could be cheaper. I prefer to have the box and manual though, so I only use BL for the occasional hard-to-find part instead of buying sets, I have better luck with eBay for sets. Bricklink sets the market value, and eBay auctions usually end slightly lower. I prefer pick-a-brick online for new pieces(overpriced, I know), and the wall at a store to stock up on parts for cheap. It's a fun game seeing how many pieces you can stuff into a cup. Edited June 4, 2011 by StoutFiles Quote
TheDarkness Posted June 4, 2011 Posted June 4, 2011 Is $100 for 7679(eBay) a good deal? It's around the mark. Bricklink prices for MISB start at $90 US Quote
Artanis I Posted June 5, 2011 Posted June 5, 2011 (edited) Which makes me wonder - is buying all the parts for an old set off bricklink (minifigures and all) actually cheaper than buying a used copy? For example, if I wanted one of these... Typically each set has 1 or more rare parts or minifigs that make it harder to find all the bits in the one place... and generally BL sellers sell most of the bits separately because they don't have the whole set. A whole used set at a time is almost always easier & cheaper. But some models you might already have most of the parts sitting around, you just source the exclusive/rare parts. In most cases, the answer is a big NO. Edited June 5, 2011 by Artanis I Quote

Yep, sadly true. Which makes me wonder - is buying all the parts for an old set off bricklink (minifigures and all) actually cheaper than buying a used copy? For example, if I wanted one of these... I tried it and used some official sets i am interested in as a reference. Huge chunks of the builds were shaded out as being not available for sale. So the question isn't actually about the price but the availability of needed parts. Bottom line is: LDD is a wonderful educative tool and might make for some basic builds for you or your children to create with it. It's an entertaining tool for a computer wiz, too. But it doesn't help you around for official sets (be it discontinued or not). I even think that TLG does not make some parts available on purpose - which is perfectly understandable. Quote
Diggydoes Posted June 6, 2011 Posted June 6, 2011 Not sure if it belongs here but i have a question regarding 10179 UCS Millenium Falcon. I'm actually bricklinking this beautiful Set since i almost own over half of the Pieces, and i don't wanna spend 700€+ on ebay/BL for a pre-owned one! Well here's my question: on www.toysperiod.com in the Instructions to the set it says that part 75535 (Technic Pin Connector Round)could be replaced by 75535B (Technic Pin Connector with Slot). Since the Part without Slot is kind of rare on BL i guess i will go for the alternative one with Slot,BUT i would like to know if the original Set came with the one with Slots,or the one without? I would like to rebuild the Set as accurate as possible so this seems a quite important Question to me. Thanks in advance for your help! Quote

XimenaPaulina Posted June 9, 2011 Author Posted June 9, 2011 Merging this with the Gen. Questions Thread. @stark mark: I haven't seen a brickbuilt MOC of Palpatine's Office but there are a lot of reference material (movie screenshots) that you could always use for inspiration. Quote
stackables Posted June 9, 2011 Posted June 9, 2011 Tantive IV alternate pieces? I just got done putting the Tantive IV together and I noticed that I am missing 3 Tan Tile, Modified 1 x 2 Grille with Bottom Groove. After completion I noticed that I have 3 Light Bluish Gray Tile, Modified 1 x 2 Grille with Bottom Groove left. I double checked everything and it all seems I didn't misplace anything and all is in order. Looking at bricklink alternate pieces, the gray for tan doesn't show up. Has anyone else come across this in their build? Quote

It looks like the earlier set were without slot, and later sets had slot. The slotted connector were listed as alternate on the bottom of the inventory page. You should be able to use either part and still be 100% original Quote
