Jedi-Bendu Posted September 25, 2014 Posted September 25, 2014 Which snowspeeder is better? the new 2014 version? Or the Wampa Cave snowspeeder? The Wampa version has a few bricks more.....but some of them are for the cave.....so comparing just the vehicles the new one has more parts.....but does that make it better? My dilemma is this: -Get 8089 (Wampa + snowspeeder) (and miss out on Dack (I already have pilot Luke + snowtroopers) and get Zev Senesca which I already have) OR -Get the new Snowspeeder + bricklink the Wampa and Hoth Luke Quote
Venkefedo Posted September 25, 2014 Posted September 25, 2014 The newer set looks really nice, and the pilots have great (some might say too much) detailing... and the Wampa & Hoth Luke are great figures, too, so just BLing them after getting the new set might be the best option... ...or you could always get the Wampa set and then the Advent Calendar, which is like getting Dak--just with a basic generic pilot head instead of one with more personality & dual-expressions, and then BL a new helmet to make Zev into an older-style Snowspeeder Wedge or Hobbie Quote

AudiBobaR5-D2 Posted September 25, 2014 Posted September 25, 2014 75055 is the only ISD that I have, but I love it. The interior is large enough to allow for some modifications if one would like, and as stated by others the minifigure selection is fantastic. The ship itself is also VERY sturdy and able to be moved around without fear of something breaking off. The inclusion of a handle to carry the ship that neatly hides itself when not in use makes playing with the ship quite easy. I'm actually buying another one during October for Double VIP points for my little nephew as a Christmas gift. He's only 4 years old, but is able to build some complex sets with help from Uncle Justin. :) He will LOVE the set as he goes crazy about minifigures and loves Darth Vader. Thanks so far of the advice about if I should get 75055 or not. And I'm swayed of possibly getting the set. On another note regarding 75055, never knew there was a pic of Death Star II in the background. Quote
Venkefedo Posted September 25, 2014 Posted September 25, 2014 (edited) Thnx. And what about the vehicles? Are there a lot of differences between them? Some... the canopy assembly looks a lot smoother on the newest. The rear cannon mounting/flap assembly is very different, and the 'middle' part of the cannons are fatter now, using the 'ridged' 2x2 round bricks and R5-D4-type 'heads' rather than technic pieces. But most of the front looks very much the same aside from deco/colors, as to be expected in a Luke-vs-non-Luke snowspeeder. EDIT: I'm just judging by pictures; you can download the instructions & compare them step by step, piece by piece for a better understanding of the differences Edited September 25, 2014 by Venkefedo Quote

Previous iterations used a 3x12 wedge plate for the edge of the wings, but the slope was too shallow, and always made the speeders look too square and boxy. For 75049, they used 2 3x6 wedge plates on each side, giving the edges a much steeper slope, which nails the overall profile of the vehicle. This also allows for the rest of the wings (both the laser cannons and the sloped bricks that hold them) to be more accurately shaped as well. I have held off on buying previous versions (like the wampa cave or battle of hoth), but 75049 was good enough for me to finally get one. It has the new spring launchers that are in a lot of the sets in this wave which I don't ever plan to use, but they are well hidden under the wing and don't hurt the profile of it at all. Aesthetically, I prefer the orange striping on the other Rogue speeders to the gray on Luke's, but it's film accurate. There are still some annoying things, like having a ton of stickers for a small set and the x-wing/y-wing canopy instead of a properly shaped new one, but those were issues with previous versions as well, and compared to those it's still a marked improvement. Chills Posted September 26, 2014 Posted September 26, 2014 @Thorg - Thanks for the insight. I didn't notice the change in the slope of the front edges. I have to agree that the new speeder looks much more movie-accurate than the older versions. That pretty much clinches the set on my "want" list. Quote
Jedi-Bendu Posted September 27, 2014 Posted September 27, 2014 Thorg & Venk: tnx. That was exactly the info I needed! New Snowspeeder + BL the Wampa & Luke it is! Quote
AudiBobaR5-D2 Posted September 28, 2014 Posted September 28, 2014 Does anyone know how I can make a custom mini version of the Death Star II at all? Quote
Venkefedo Posted September 28, 2014 Posted September 28, 2014 Sure, play around in LDD and/or Google "death star II MOC" and see what pops up Quote
AudiBobaR5-D2 Posted September 30, 2014 Posted September 30, 2014 Does anyone know when set 10236 is going to be discontinued any time soon? Hopefully not soon, like this year. Quote
Gremer Posted September 30, 2014 Posted September 30, 2014 (edited) Based off of the Executor's 3 year lifespan, I would guesstimate summer 2016. Edited September 30, 2014 by Gremer Quote
rollermonkey Posted October 1, 2014 Posted October 1, 2014 Meanwhile, the big R2 and Death Star sets just keep on keepin' on... Quote
mattdev25 Posted October 1, 2014 Posted October 1, 2014 Does anyone know if we'll ever get an updated Cloud City? Quote
Venkefedo Posted October 1, 2014 Posted October 1, 2014 Does anyone know if we'll ever get an updated Cloud City? Nope. Many of us are speculating we may see some Cloud City love in 2015, since A) we're getting a UCS Slave I with a new Bespin Guard and an updated ESB Boba, and B) it's painfully obvious at this point that Cloud City is one of the few remaining OT locales in desperate need of an update (the other major one being Dagobah). We've had oodles of Hoth, Tatooine, and Endor in the last several years, but the only Bespin Luke/Leia/Lando figures Lego made was back when licensed figures still (mostly) had yellow skin. Quote

Would like to finally get the set, and was slightly worried about when it will get discontinued. Still plenty time to save up for. On another note. Is it worth parting with all things TCW in favour of OT. Big fan of both, but more OT/PT fan than TCW. Edited October 1, 2014 by AudiBobaR5-D2 Quote
Robianco Posted October 1, 2014 Posted October 1, 2014 My Lego store still has the Executor in stock... I've never picked one up though... there's something about the scaling and build I've never been sure of. I may be in a minority for this but somehow the figures just don't work with it. Quote

I got it three weeks ago from my wife Robianco. Build it if you can afford it. Build isn't that fun as DS, but it blows the latter out of the water by the sheer awesomeness as a display piece! It is sooo imposing... Honestly, I can't stop staring at it. Last thing you'd be thinking is the flat bottom. Quote
rexusprime Posted October 4, 2014 Posted October 4, 2014 Hey guys! Do the Rebels mini figures have the same style as the OT and PT ones? I know they don't have big eyes like TCW but do they match with normal mini figures? Quote

DanishLegoLover Posted October 4, 2014 Posted October 4, 2014 i know this is is a weird comparison, but i have no idea of which one to buy. The Death Star has way more pieces, but Cloud city has my favorite movie scene of all time (Luke vs Vader + "i am your father"). What is your opinion? Quote
Lobot Posted October 4, 2014 Posted October 4, 2014 Hi, and welcome to Eurobricks! We have a general Q&A thread pinned at the top of the SW forum, I'll merge this thread with it in a bit It's a good question though; as much as I love Cloud City it does look rather dated, but it includes a rather special Lando (and a certain bounty hunter!). The Death Star contains lots of minifigures and is (relatively) great value for money. I could be totally wrong, but I'm quietly optimistic that we'll get another Cloud City in the next couple of years, simply because it's totally overdue and there's obviously a market for it. Quote
Mr Meleca Posted October 4, 2014 Posted October 4, 2014 I share the same opinion, and Death Star is really huge and a fantastic beginning for a collection. Good luck! Quote
rollermonkey Posted October 4, 2014 Posted October 4, 2014 (edited) I just compared the trooper in the Ghost to the ones in the ISD yesterday. Rebels has a deeper frown and brighter blue markins on the sides of the helmet. The chin marking is slightly different, too. If you break out a micrometer, the eyes are slightly different. On the torso and legs, the print on the ISD troopers is darker and not identical. That said, from more than a couple feet away, the differences aren't actually noticeable, so if you wanted to army build, say for the Emporer's Arrival scene, I really don't think it would be glaringly obvious to most people. The hate the Rebels trooper is getting is way out of proportion to the actual differences, IMHO. Nobody in their right mind would think they aren't both Stormtroopers. Well, you'll agree that's mostly the matter of opinion I for one, think that this miscreation they call a stormtrooper in Rebels is something straight out of Dali's painting... And I would spot that "mouth" from a mile's distance. But that said, I was never a role model for someone "in his right mind", so who knows, perhaps you are right...
