Dear all,

I generally post in the Historic Themes forum, but a recent viewing of my Star Wars DVDs, coupled with the preview of the Ewok Village set, has rekindled my desire to add some Star Wars set to my Lord of the Rings collection. I have only ever had two sets, which my wife (then girlfriend) bought me in the late 90s (Jedi Defense with Obi-Wan and a small set with the Emperor and Darth Vader).

What I am interested in are your recommendations for sets. I see Star Wars as my secondary theme, although it might become primary once the Lord of the Rings line ceases to exist, and my re-found LEGO interest would still be alive. Accordingly, I mainly look for sets with high display-value, that are instantly recognisable. I am in favour of the original trilogy but definitely not opposed to the new sets. I am not a fan of the animation series, however.

Thanks for any replies and may the force be with you all!

First a disclaimer, I'm very new to the SW Lego world.

The UCS sets are pricey, but as instantly recognisable display sets can't be beat. The Imperial Shuttle (retired, but I think it still can be found at a reasonable price) is my favourite. IMO the best designed ship in the SW universe. Both the Super Star Destroyer & Death Star are also great sets that have been around a while and might retire in the not so distant future.

Battle of Endor is another set many rave about, but unfortunately it is retired.

Among the smaller current sets I like the Desert Skiff, it's nice and has some key figures. The Endor BP is pretty good too, as well as the current X-Wing and Tie Fighter.

There are so many SW sets that I would probably recommend just sticking with the OT if that is where your heart is.

It's always nice to see people trying out new themes. For me I would get the battle of endor as suggested above, the desert skiff and jabbas sail barge are also a good combo to get. If you want to collect PT sets we've just had a wave of AOTC sets and we are getting a wave of ROTS sets. One other sets I would recommend is the Death Star, because of the release of the ewok village the DS is probably getting replaced so this is a good time to get it.

When it comes to Star Wars, I like Tattooine, Hoth, the Battle of Geonosis (EP II), and the clone soldiers from EP III.

I'm not a huge fan of Endor, but I cannot neglect the fact that it gets the better sets, e. g. Ewok Village, and the Imperial Shuttle already mentioned by LegoFjotten. Hoth, on the other land, still lacks a decent base; plus, the Snowspeeder and the X-Wing still are not looking very well.

Nevertheless, altough retired, I like 8089 because it contains a Wampa. 75014is nice because of the Taun-Taun and the minifigs.

To me, 9490 and 9496are pretty nice as well. 75005comes up with a Rancor, with is pretty iconic as well.

There are a couple of sets from the PT I'd definetly go for, namely 75021and 75019.

edit:

I wasn't a fan of the animated series, either. But after having watched it I have to say that it clearly has its moments, and I regret Disney's decision to cancel the show.

7930 is small, green and not very spectacular, but it is among my favourite sets.

I really want the blue clone that is free with shop at home in September - I was waiting and thought i'd get an early xmas present ewok village, but I am in the UK and it does not show in my basket. I cannot believe they wouldn't honour the deal in the UK. Does anyone know better please???

Dear all,

Thanks for any replies and may the force be with you all!

If you are looking for a good starting point for Star Wars sets, there are few better than http://www.brickset.com/detail/?Set=7965-1 2011's 7965 Millenium Falcon. Granted it's not as nice as the classic UCS Falcon, but hey who has $13,000 just lying around. 7965 will give you a great round up of the core characters at a decent price. It's still on store shelves, but probably not much longer. Combine it with the low cost http://www.brickset.com/detail/?Set=9490-1 and you will have the full primary cast from the first movie.

Thanks for your suggestions. The X-Wing looks great! I had a look at the 2014 thread, and apparently there's a new X-Wing coming. I'm not sure if I should wait for that one, but I don't suppose anybody can tell.

Thanks for your reply! I don't understand the abbreviations, unfortunately (aside from DS, which you explained earlier). Spot the theme-newbie. ;)

Thanks a lot! The battle of Hoth looks great! Endor looks fantastic. I think the Ewok village might be my favourite so far, but it's too costly for a 'secondary' theme - both in terms of money and space it would require to display. But those ewoks are just awesome. :)

Wow! That Falcon looks great! And as you wrote, the included characters are amazing. Thanks very much for the suggestions!

If you want Jek Porkins I would pick up the current X-Wing as for the X-Wing in 2014 it is from the micro sets we are getting next year

Thanks! I think it'll be a toss-up between the Falcon and the X-Wing for me.

The same is true for Germany. I get the VW minibus/camper for free, but I don't get the clone lieutenant.

Yes, as GRogall posted in the brand store calendar thread, the Clone Lieutenant is US/Canada only unfortunately.

I actually don't care much about PT stuff, but I LOVE freebies.

Thanks, I supposed that this might be the case, but thanks for the confirmation! I have a crush on clone troopers of all kinds, so I really would have liked to get this one. On the other hand, the price of this "free" clone can be determined by the difference in the prices for the sets I would have bought at s&h, and the discounted prices I'd pay elsewhere. Seen it this way, it doesn't really make sense to order at s&h anyway.

Hi, here are the abbreviations you might not know:

PT-Prequal Trilogy Episodes 1,2,3

OT-Original Trilogy Episodes 4,5,6

TPM-The phantom menace

AOTC-Attack of the clones

ROTS-Revenge of the sith etc.

I was thinking about the new star wars movies that will be released when it struck me that we may not see any storm troopers. The prequels had the clones and the original trilogy had the storm troopers. I can only assume that means that we will get a new evil army which means we might be getting a new evil army (empire) lego minifigures when the sets based off the new movie come out.

If the movies are set in the New Republic era we will see some Stormtroopers.

Correct me if I'm wrong but I think there are some Stormies because palpatine apparantly survives through four clones because he burst into dark energy in ROTJ and his spirit survived. So we may see stormtroopers, possibly in upgraded armour.

The first generation of stormtroopers are almost all clones. Does that mean the stormies will have clone faces underneath their helmets?

Also, will the new stormtroopers be McQuarrie, OT style, or something totally new?

I'm guessing the ones in Rebels are all clones in new Phase III armour i.e. McQuarrie style.
