Can I be your friend???

I have seen some sets on auction sites that are 99% complete - using substitute parts like black mast instead of gray and of course the levers are black. I have come close to buying these as a way to avoid the headache of brick linking such a large set. If you have the extra money, it might be a good option for you. The way I see it is that if you were to start with one of these 99% sets and piece out the correct parts you would probably still end up at or around the cost of a used set that is complete. It all depends on how much effort you want to put into it and what level of accuracy you want.

The 10179 has been a thorn in my side ever since I passed on the $500 retail... Live and learn I guess!!!

Hi, there's a general Q&A thread pinned to the top of the forum, I'll merge this with it in a bit :classic:

Good luck if you decide to build one via Bricklick, it's certainly a mammoth project!

Oh thanks, sorry for the mistake at posting!

Anyway..it's a present for a friend of mine! I just want to know what's the quickest or easiest way to buy all the bricks once you have a list of them! I'm not really good at these things....sorry guys!!

I don't think there is a quick or easy way... But there is a very costly way though

Hi guys! So I was rebuilding my tie defender today and I noticed that the cockpit is sagging a lot. Is this normal? I did have to change some things on my version since the two technic pieces that hold the three wings on broke, and I needed to replace it with an alternate solution. I'm planning on modding the set more, but haven't gotten around to it yet. I might make it's own topic when I finish, but until then any help is appreciated. :classic:

It's not bizarre at all, a lot of hinged pieces tend to age over time. For instance, the landing gear on my 2006 X-Wing has become very feeble over time and sags a lot when I'm swooshing it around. The TIE Defender has been around for about 4 and a half years, so age could be a possible answer to your problem. But I'm pretty sure if you replace it with a newer version of the piece, there should be no sagging whatsoever.

I see some conflicting info on the 'official' size of one, but for an AT-AT to carry 40 Troopers, plus a crew of three in the cockpit, plus multiple speederbikes, would it be possible to actually fit all that into a 'true' minifig scale AT-AT MOC?

When I and EB member Ras74 built a minfig scaled UCS we used the scale from this page.

And then its not possible to fit the things mentioned above. When searching for info and pictures for the build we realized thet the AT-AT varies alot in sizes in diffrent scenes in the movies. And to be able to fit all things mentioned the size has to be bigger than what specified from the wiki page.

Full of even moar snowies

That is the best I could do. Full interior as per the incredible cross sections book, which even so, is apparently not correct... but meh.. it gave the most insightful interior shot so used it as source.

Haha I have no idea! how big is a minifig supposed to be if it was in metres? I think its probably quite a bit bigger, but I used the size of the minifigs fitting inside the head to base the size of everything else around... So somewhere itll be completely out of scale I highly expect.

*edit* it is roughly 16 and a half minifigs tall if they were to be stood on the head stud connected together.

How tall are you basing the height of a minifig to be in real life sizing?

Ok fellow collectors: how long do you guys think Jabba's Sail Barge and The Rancor Pit will be vailable before they will be retired?

Rancor Pit - I think this would be its last year

Sail Barge - Should be here one more year

As in: Rancor Pit - 2014 is the last year? (retiring in december 2014?).

Still in doubt about this set....the Rancor itself looks great. Malakili is ok....but I don't need the rest of the set.

You and everyone else it seems! Albeit making up less than 5% of the parts in the sets; it's worth (Bricklink) is actually 25-30%...

Yup. I looked and the Rancor + Malakili + shipping would be no less than +- € 25. The complete set is +- € 55.

Regarding the Sail Barge: I want the Weequay, Slave Leia, Ree-Yees and Max Rebo.

I already own Jabba and R2.

Bricklinking the 4 figs is almost half of the set itself.....but the Barge is more worth it than a simple (Rancor) cage. (which I won't use as it kinda f**** up Jabba's Palace imho.

First things first: the A, B and Y Wing this month, and next month the Cantina + some BL figs.

Hello there,

I'm new here on this forum, and recently came back to collecting LEGO after I gave up my entire collection (mostly 20 odd year old City and Technics sets) a few years ago and made one kid very happy. Found out a few weeks ago there was a booming community of fellow Lego-nuts, so I had to register. And I was wondering if I could ask some questions to you people regarding some sets I've been interested in? I try to get the most iconic pieces from the movies, like the Falcon, Tie Fighter, UCS Sandcrawler, the UCS Red Five X-Wing, ... all for building and displaying purposes.

What's on my wishlist:

  • 10225 R2-D2
  • 75052 Mos Eisley Cantina (a must imo)
  • 75054 AT-AT
  • 75020 Jabba's Sail Barge
  • but I'm torn between the UCS 10227 B-wing (priced at about € 200) and the 75050 B-wing (€65). Is the quality and the exclusivity of the UCS set justifying the price difference? (maybe a weird question to ask to fellow collectors, but I just want the most bang for the buck, and maybe saving funds for other pieces)

Your thoughts on this list? Thanks in advance!

I only have 75050, but I would say it's a great set to get if you don't have the last version. The minifigs are great (especially Gray Squadron Pilot), the build is really fun, and it looks pretty good on display, even though the s-foils don't close all the way.

Hello and welcome to eurobricks. Based off the sets you want to acquire, I can tell your a big collector, so the UCS B-Wing wouldn't be a bad idea for you to pay for. However IMO the B-Wing isn't really a good set to be a UCS, although many may disagree. I think the 2006 version is really cool too, and although it's retired you can still get it between 30 to 40 euros. I think it's better because it's very detailed with some cool play features, and it looks great on display. However the newer system set has some cool things itself, like the amazing minifigures it comes with. Whichever one is better is just a matter of opinion, however I think you will be more satisfied with getting one of the system sets rather than the UCS set.

The only bad thing I could say about the new system B-Wing is that the wings are too thin, but at that price/piece count some compromises have to be made. It still looks nice on display and the minifigs are great. The Grey Squadron pilot is the best pilot minifig imho (but that is because I have a soft spot for the design).

A word on displays: I think that a Lego display should feature minifigs. It is Lego after all, not Revell. Hence the quality of the minifigs is an important point to me and the recent waves have loads of quality minifigs.

A question: What are the best buys to build a Kashyyyk scenario? Nothing fancy, I am just thinking about the platform Yoda was on when Order 66 was issued and Gree tried to kill him.

Obviously, the AT-AP and the new Kashyyyk battle pack would be good for the figures and vehicles. However, there's also a couple other non Star Wars sets that might be a good bet for scenery/Wookiee constructions. The two that spring to mind immediately are the Hobbit Warg attack set (not sure what the exact name is; the one with the tree) and the Goblin King set. Both have a lot of interesting parts in various shades of brown that would do quite nicely for a ramshackle Wookiee outpost, or simply some background scenery.

Yep, Attack of the Wargs and GKB are both great to have. Laketown Chase is also a good choice. Pick these up if you find them on clearance: 50% off or more.

But sets can only get you so far; you'll eventually have to use BL/eBay for the leaves because AotW doesn't have enough. So, you might as well buy slopes and leaves on BL and build a tree, because it's easier, and you won't end up with extra parts or figures.

Have fun building!
