First of all, welcome to EB!

I think the odds are higher you've made a mistake somewhere in the build, considering you got your first SW set since years. Extra pieces are normal though!

I just finished the build (looks awesome) and after double checking I'm positive there are 2 pieces missing from bag 3. In fact it appears they put 2 wrong pieces in the bag as there are pink and dark brown pieces, neither of which have any business being in this set! I've read on here though that TLG are good with this sort of thing so I'm not worried.

*oh2* Nice detail! Didn't even spot that one in the trailer! Remember Lando hitting the sattelite dish against the innards of the death star in the return of the jedi?

I think it's rather strange they did change the stormtroopers, but did keep the X-wings and Tie Fighters. I may have expected some new technology in the year between, like E-wings or fighters that are looking mint, and for the Empire they had all kind off Tie Interceptors which were a ton better, and I think the average Tie pilot would have liked a hyperdrive on his ship!

BTW: Am I the only one who thinks that voice-over is irritating? -"have you felt it?"- not to speak about that stormie without helmet.

The stormie without the helmet is one of the lead characters. The voiceover was great (supposedly Andy Serkis' voice).

They didn't just change stormtroopers; those X-wings are new. Didn't you see the "Force for Change" video with Abrams standing in front of one? They're based on McQuarrie preproduction art from the original film. The TIEs may have differences not apparent in that brief clip we saw.

It's 30 years later, in-universe and out; change happens. We may see all kinds of other starfighters during the film; X-wings weren't the only Rebel fighters we saw in ROTJ after all, nor were basic TIEs the only ones we saw.

The droid may not be an actual astromech of the "future", it may just have a head resembling one (more like the original Kenner R2). It's functionality is likely hidden within its ball shell just as R2's tools were all hidden.

I still think it's strange, but it will probalbly make sense after seeing the movie. After watching the teasor for about 50+ times I kinda got used to the voice, but still IMO I think they could have done better.

I did see all the changes on the X-wings, and yes I've seen that picture, and I see the Tie's have changed from black-gray to gray-black in the trailer, but it still seems too much recycling to me. And I know that it is McQuarrie reproduction, but why do they have to resemble McQuarrie art in the first place? - Rebels did use all kind of McQuarry designs, why EP VII too? Why didn't they just made entirely new designs? There are other ways to create the SW feeling in stead of using only SW ships. I mean 30 years... That seems enough time to make all kinds of new ships for both rebellion and empire. It needs to feel like a new chapter in the SW era, not 2 years later or something like that.

"The Force AWAKENS" seems like a entirely new time has come, with most of the force (and so old times) forgotten, so why keep the same ships? (okay, the force may have been forgotten already in EPIV)

I think if Lucas made the movie, there wouldn't be that much of the old designs and McQuarry stuff in both Rebels and EPVII. It seems like now that he's gone from Lucasarts, that the team lost the ideas and inspiration and just recycles old stuff to be sure everything looks SW-y like it came from the same age as the original trilogy.

I hope the movie gives a good explanation for all of this, and then we'll see if all of it makes sense.

Is there an expert Aurebesh reader somewhere over here?

The X-wing's pilot's clothing contains some letters, I can read: zRFet RRUq... But that makes no sense at all

To be honest, I don't get where this 'they are lazy because they only recycle old designs'-bandwagon comes from. If you look at the vehicle designs of the prequel movies, stuff was made to look like a less evolved version of vehicles we knew from the Original Trilogy.

There were wedge-shaped capital starships that looked like early star destroyers. There've been walkers in any shape or size. There were republic ships that looked like an early version of the corellian corvette. There were CIS ships that were reminiscent of the ship designs in the rebel fleet. You had ships with elements of later Tie fighters.

So I don't get why not use similar designs for the new movies. Also, if you look at the lifespan of real fighter craft and warships, for example, you get to 30+ years of service for many. I'd rather have a wellmade rehash of vehicle designs than a poor rehash of the story.

It says: "Pull to Inflate" in upside down Aurebesh.

Oh well that makes much more sense! Upside down, of course! thanks :sweet:

Ashame that the pilot's name was not on there or something like that.

We won't be getting any character information for a while I think. The pilot we saw in the X-wing was Oscar Isaac's character, he may be a kind of analogue to Wedge from the OT but with more plot involvement, as opposed to just appearing in space battles.

the pilot is actor Oscar Isaac...his name's still a mystery. He's the 3rd lead, after Boyega and Ridley.

EDit: didn't see Atlas' post.

Put things into perspective, TWP. How about taking a look at real life military hardware. It can go through revoluntionary changes (from 1912 to 1942 during 2 world wars) or much more evolutionary changes like 1984 to 2014 during time without major wars. The F-15 Eagle first flew in 1972, and is still a front-line air superiority fighter for many nations. Same for the F-16. The M1 Abrams tank went into service in 1980, and the variants are still the main battle tank 34 years later for many nations.

Having X-Wings and TIE Fighters that look very similar but more "evolved" compared to the ones in EP IV-VI is quite logical, especially since the galaxy is in a post-war period. Military spending would be down relative to the buildup during the Empire, so the governments would just be modifying and enhancing current hardware.

That's the thing though, we don't actually know anything aside from the fact that the Death Star has been destroyed again, and Palpatine and Vader have both been killed. The civil war most likely did not end with the victory at Endor, but again, we can't really know until more stuff is canonised or the film is released. For the record, I don't have a problem with the new wings and designs. I quite like them. But I think a lot of people are relying on assumptions that have no basis in the canon that we have now. That's all.

With the release of the new SW Movie trailer this past week, I am wondering if anyone thinks, for better or worse, that the new release of the seventh episode will have on LEGO SW models. I think that it will positively affect old UCS sets. Especially the Falcon, as long as new verions or remakes do not come out. BTW..... earlier this year there was rumored a new remake of the UCS Falcon- has anyone heard anything about this?

I seriously would not doubt it if TLG had something up their sleeve that they release a new UCS Falcon near the date the movie is released in 2015.

Thoughts? Anyone have the inside scoop?

As there is a lot of discussion regarding the effect Ep7 will have on Lego sets already going on here I took the liberty of merging your topic with this one.

Hey guys, can anybody tell me whether the Darth Maul head piece would fit onto my Darth Maul minifigure? I have the earliest version, I think, as I bought it in 2002 or 2003.

Also, does anybody know a fitting cape for the new Yoda figure?

if your referring to his horns, then yes they fit on any standard minifig head. they do have printing though, and I can't say for certain it will line up well with the older head.

Yes, I just checked, and the Darth Maul head piece looks Great on the old school Maul.

As for Yoda, I think one of the LOTR capes look best. I like the dark green one that Frodo wears. You could use Hobbit sized capes of whatever color, really. :classic:

To Canadians members:

Do you know if Toys R us replaced the 20% promotion for good?

All we got lately was bonus airmiles...

If they did + low CAD $ (Not worth to drive 2h to the US) we are going to have a bad year money wise.

Am I the only one that only buys original trilogy sets?

Nope, I'm relatively new to collecting Star Wars sets and apart from the Rebels set for my son I'm pretty much sticking to OT

Nope.

Just OT for me.....although I made an exception for The Ghost and The Phantom.

However.....big chance I'll get all/some of the Episode VII sets......
