Very iconic ship in the SW universe. It was built leaps and bounds over the previous editions. Between the latter and the included mini figures it makes it a very desirable set. I was able to buy 4 of them before the price went north.

I think it's because the Ties are so iconic, and it's hard to come by nowadays. I bought 3 when they were out, and converted one into a tie interceptor.

Apologies if this isn't the right place, newbie here, but where do people tend to buy from? Are there sites outside of Lego.com, Amazon, etc which people go to? Anyone still buy from their local store?

Trying to build up my SW collection but on a limited budget (whatever the wife won't notice..) so need to find good value for money.

I tend to buy more from Amazon because they actually put Lego on sale. TRU and the independents usually sell at RRP or higher (in my experience anyway). I always wait for a sizeable sale because my funds are divided between other hobbies too.

Have you ever tried buying from abroad?

Not sure where you're from but here in the UK we seem to pay over the odds compared to the U.S. for example.

What they pay in $ we pay in £ (ish).

No, I don't buy from abroad. But I am in the UK. The pricing structure is strange, but I have been collecting for over a decade and it hasn't bothered me.

Don't forget the sales tax that you'd have to add on for the US purchases anyway.

If you're looking to pick up sets for less than retail then Amazon, as stated, is a good place to look. John Lewis tend to price match Amazon though so they have discounts quite quickly on set included many of the recent SW sets, although not the very recent wave such as Tydirium etc (Cantina for £51 etc)

Supermarkets such as ASDA and Tesco also tend to have items on sale and Microfighters are something that you can often pick up cheaply there.

Yeah, i've bought other stuff from the States before so know to factor it in.

How about buying from mainland Europe? Seems Amazon.de is pretty cheap and will ship to UK for a few Euros.

Hey there guys. I'm about to buy a UCS Imperial Star Destroyer 10030 for $2200 locally. He told me the box had sealed broken because of naturally occurrence but he told me the contents inside were sealed. Does anyone face a similar situation and/or can provide photos/details about inside? Such as..

What does the tape look like?

How many white boxes are inside?

I'm not sure if there's a particular reason you're looking to buy the item locally but there are several sellers on Bricklink that are selling complete sets with all the contents guaranteed for around $900 less. There's also a seller who has a set that is described exactly as the one you're talking about for $1600. Even DHL shipping shouldn't be more than $100 which is still a $500 saving?

I forgot to quote I live in Canada and that number is in Canadian dollars. Shipping internationally a 20 pound box worth thousands.. I don't even want to imagine the shipping PLUS the custom fees involved.

Hi hwangmihee1,I haven't owned one personally, but there's a thread on Brickset which may be of help (link)

For future reference there's a general Q&A thread pinned to the top of the forum. I'll merge this with it in a bit :classic:

Cheers, Robin

I've been thinking about making unit 264 from Star Wars Rebels, basically a R4 Astro Droid with the traditional cone head, and been thinking what particular colors to use for the droid in question and the right type R4 based head to the nearest possible.

Thanks in advanced

I guess this confirms just2good's rumor that this set would be retiring by the end of the year to make room for a new Death Star set next year. Kinda sad that I never got it. I can only hope that the new one will be even better, although it will be hard to top this one. :sceptic:

Usually when a product goes "Call for availability" it means stock is running low and they're probably on their final way out.

That's my experience with sets that go into that "status" at least.

Thoughts guys?

Wouldn't be surprised about its retirement. I got mine a few months ago (March) in a LEGO Store, and an employee told me that it was the last one they had in stock and that they wouldn't be ordering any new ones.

Strange that you mention that. The Lego Store I go to doesn't order their sets. They get orders based on their needs and thats it. The Manager has some input, but ultimately, it's automatic for him. Neat.

In reply to your question, it's anyone's guess! Personally I'm amazed that it's still in production after 7 years, but from what I've heard it's been a consistently good seller for TLG.

I'm very happy that I got my Death Star set. Even if it does get revamped later, this one has so many old-school minifigures and so much character already, I doubt I'd get an updated version. Especially since at this point, I have a few updated minifigures from the set already.

Seriously,I don't very surprised with the retirement of 10188 Death Star.10188 has been sold in Lego store in more than 5-6 years, and The Force Awakens Lego sets will hit the store in less than 3 months,so 10188 retirement is actually something's that make sense.

I own one and can tell you there are 4 white boxes inside, plus a cardboard "holder" just for the instruction novel (too big to be a booklet LOL). I think the white boxes inside are numbered, but I have to go home and check. You'll also want to make sure the UCS sticker is in there. I hear that thing goes for a pretty penny.
