I was originally not going to get the Carrier, but did in the end. It's far from being in scale with everything else, but I like it. The minifigs are all nice.

Meh, scale is always an issue, not even the various fighters line up, at least the tie fighters are close enough (the carrier should be ~7-12 studs longer to match perfectly)

Anything bigger then small fighters is going to have waaay too much size variation to find a common scale in Lego anyway.

Ive got my Carrier in the mail, stoked for it, even if ill have to leave it closed till christmas

It's a big hangup for some, but for me the scale difference is only really apparent when you can't put minifigs in something. In this case, you can't put minifigs in the TIEs, and they are far from the same size as the "system scale" TIEs, so it is noticeable to me. If it didn't have the TIEs, I probably wouldn't care one bit. As it is, I care a very very small bit.

Remove the ties and adapt the mechanism to carry two of the upcoming at-dp microfighters, as seen in the series ☺

I think the polybag AT-DP are the perfect scale for use with the Gozanti...

Hmm, i suspect they might look a bit small-ish, i have two of those though, so i could try it out.

Anyway, i suggested the microfighter since Artanis wanted something to carry figs in, and four proto-Ties doesnt make much sense yet.

Should I get the gozanti for my growing imperial army?

I personally like the Gozanti and I think that it's a good addition to your Lego Galactic Empire army, but the windscreen is way too big and make the ship itself looks extremely out of scale.

Well, ill chime in and vote in favor of the Gozanti, it needs a few simple mods (there is a thread on it floating around), mainly the windscreen and spacing on the Ties, but it is a cool looking addition to the Imperial fleet imho, something different then the omnipresent star destroyer

Mine is sitting in the garage waiting for christmas, and its killing me :P

Buying a new or second hnad set is out of the question...so its buying as many parts brand new where possible, and buying everything else in used condition.

if one was not obessed with having the original mold designs, or not too bothered about special printed pieces...is it possible to build 10179?

as in can you find all the parts?....

what are the rare/qunique parts only found in the set?...are there newer sets that have new mold designs that could be used as alternate parts etc?

overall i just want to know if its possible to buy and build it in 2015?

Yes, it's possible, tons of people have built the UCS Millenium Falcon.

I'm not too keen about 10179's rare / expensive parts but I do know that there are two grey mast riggings that are quite expensive but that can be substitued by spray painting the same part but in a cheaper colour or by using other bricks to remodel the area where these pieces are needed, and that there are a lot of grey antenna pieces (grey base and antenna) that can be replaced with black antennas (grey base, black antenna).

All in all, yes, 10179 can be built in 2015 but some modifications have to be done if you want to save a lot of money.

Hi

It's entirely possible to Bricklink a UCS 10179, but the cost will depend greatly upon how accurate you want it to be. I've built two of them in the last couple of years; I sourced everything new but made several replacements and the total was £600 - £625. From other attempts I've seen recently some of the rarer parts are getting quite prohibitive, so you may need to make some more compromises, it's up to you, although buying used parts will help. There's several threads about it, here's a few to start with

For future reference, there's a general Q&A thread pinned to the top of the forum. I'll merge this with it in a bit :classic:

Boba Fett (UCS)

Boba Fett (10123 Cloud City)

Greedo (Original version)

TIE Pilot (UCS)

Bespin Guard (Original version)

Darth Maul (Polybag)

Darth Maul (Clone Wars)

Wullffwarro (Rebels Wookie)

C-3PO (Polybag)

Thats about it off the top of my head... ish...

I didn't realize wullffwarro and the TIE pilot had arm printing. That makes 10 if you include jerk-14
