jdm44 Posted March 10, 2016 Posted March 10, 2016 Does anyone know which sets/subthemes go well together as a display set? I've already collected all the Hoth, Endor and Tantooine (Jabba) 2010 and later sets and they look great as displays when together (will post photo later). But now I'm looking for more to display and was wondering if you guys had any suggestions. I don't really count UCS sets like Slave 1, Death Star, Tie Fighter etc. so you can leave that out. 75131, 75132, 75139, 75140, 75101, 75102, 75103, 75104 and 75105 would go together for an epic Takodana display. They're all currently available. There's also a lot of options with the PT sets. Battle of Naboo, Geonosis, Kashyyyk, etc. The problem with those would be that you would end up paying a premium for the retired sets. If I had so many sets and such a long display bench I would definitely lay them out in order of appearance in the movies; i.e. Tantive IV, Escape Pod, Jawa Sandcrawler, Mos Eisley Cantina, Millenium Falcon, TIE Fighter, TIE Advanced x1, Y-Wing, X-Wing, Death Star.. You know, that jazz :) I would do the same. That would look awesome. Quote
DrJones Posted March 10, 2016 Posted March 10, 2016 Hey guys, after visiting this site for over a year I finally decided to create my own profil I recently bought Darth Vaders Tie Fighter (8017) and the Sith Infiltrator (7961) used, but complete with box and instructions, for 65€. Well not a real bargain, but could be worse Now I'm planning to sell just the Infiltrator, with box and instructions, but without the minifigures. Which price do you think would be reasonable and where should I sell it? Bricklink? I'm from Germany and I don't know if there are a lot buyers from my country. The box and the instructions are in a very good condition, almost like new. Thanks Quote
HawkLord Posted March 10, 2016 Posted March 10, 2016 Sets without minifigures don't do very well on the secondary market - it's a common practice for minifigure collectors to do that. I would say you should keep it if you can use the parts. I would suggest selling it on eBay as a method. Quote

But for the average price, you might end up just sitting on it for a long time. You could try listing it for less, but the pieces are more valuable for MOCs and such, so I would decide how badly I wanted the < $30. Lots of grey plates in that set, I would just keep it. Quote

I would say just keep it for MOCs if you're into that because you're probably not going to make that much from it. If not then you should try selling it. Quote
Super Hans Posted March 11, 2016 Posted March 11, 2016 Hi Guys I've only just starting collecting some OT Lego Star Wars sets this year and now own the following: 75055 - Imperial Star Destroyer 75093 - Death Star Final Duel 75020 - Jabba's Sailbarge 9496 - Desert Skiff 75094 - Imperial Shuttle Tydirium 75137 - Carbon Freezing Chamber 75136 - Droid Escape Pod 75003 - A-Wing 75050 - B-Wing 75081 - T-16 Skyhopper 75052 - Mos Eisley Cantina 75059 - Snowspeeder I'm now running a bit low on display space (and the cash that the wife will let me spend!) so need to start becoming a bit more selective. Which of the remaining OT sets do you think should be the priority to pick up next? Quote
Forresto Posted March 11, 2016 Posted March 11, 2016 Definitely get at least one of the Rebel Alliance and Galactic Empire Battle packs. While they're based off the Battlefront game and not entirely canon (i'm looking at you shock trooper) it still fits into the theme fairly well due to the game's excellent visual design and close adherence to the canon look. Plus you get some great figs. An X-Wing or a Tie Fighter are always a steadfast classic. I must admit I own none of Lego's numerous iterations of either except for the original interceptor set ( yep i'm that guy). The second edition of Jabba's Palace is pretty good for display especially in tandem with the Rancor pit. That'll be a bit pricey though, probably 200 US dollars between the two at least or less if you only buy one. For a little under that you could always get the most recent AT-AT which is fairly impressive. It's a little undersized in comparison to a mini figure according to canon scales but it's still big. You could probably get one of the older ones for less if you get the set without the figures. I don't own the Ewok Village but i've seen it in person several times and that looks really good for display. It's expensive but one of the best UCS recent sets in terms of uniqueness and playability by far. However if you want to wait and save your spending money the upcoming Rogue One movie which is set directly before A New Hope will have a slew of sets in the fall. While we don't know much about it they are bound to stay within the general visual designs of the OT which would mean the lego sets will as well. Quote

Apparently battlefront is canon due to the Battle of Jakku so I guess it makes the shock trooper canon. Quote
Super Hans Posted March 11, 2016 Posted March 11, 2016 Thanks for that! I'm definitely interested in Jabba's Palace due to the decent selection of unique and interesting mini-figs. It's very expensive over here though (UK) so will keep a look out on eBay for bargains. I'm not so interested in the battlepacks as I enjoy building rather than collecting mini-figs. If I see them at a decent discount though I'll pick them up. Quote
jdm44 Posted March 12, 2016 Posted March 12, 2016 I would suggest getting the UCS Slave 1, Sandcrawler, or Ewok Village before buying retired sets that are priced way above MSRP. They're worth saving up for. Quote
Super Hans Posted March 12, 2016 Posted March 12, 2016 That's a fair point. Do we expect the likes of Jabba's Palace to shoot up any more or is it likely to hover around the current price for a while? The Sandcrawler is hard to justify at that price but I guess the Ewok Village and Slave I aren't that much more than the Palace. Will have to see what May 4th deals pop up. Quote

Well that's actually a good point. Those are considered two of the best OT sets made especially the Slave 1. I personally have never liked the Slave 1 (the ship not the set) that much so I wasn't pressed to get it, but the set is one of the most accurate to a movie i've ever seen. I am a mini figure person so Jabba's Palace appeals more to me. But display wise the Ewok Village and Slave 1 are unsurpassed as of today. Quote
Kretnica Posted March 14, 2016 Posted March 14, 2016 (edited) Yo fellas. As a new SW fan i'd like to know how long do you think will sets from new film(Force Awakens) be available ? I'm thinking of picking up a few including Poes X wing and Millinum Falcon but i'm not sure when i'll be able to, hence the question. I think random SW sets are available around 2 years (?) but my wanted TFA sets came with the film release and every other theme that was released to accompany films literally just lasted 1 wave and was done forever (I'm in Europe and im thinking of brick and mortar stores). Do you think they might be retired soon ? Maybe sometime before Rogue One sets are released ? I was looking at Poes X Wing the other day and the seals were 29S5, does this mean they were produced in 29th week, last year? That doesnt sound very recent so i started to worry. Any possible info or thoughts on the subject will be greatly appreciated, Thank you Edited March 14, 2016 by Kretnica Quote
Junior Shark Posted March 14, 2016 Posted March 14, 2016 I don't think the TFA sets will be pulled early to facilitate the sale of the Rogue One sets. Everyone's riding the TFA cash cow 'til they can't ride it no more. The 2-year set life is a pretty good estimation- 2 years from last September will be September 2017, aka Ep. VIII Force Friday. That would be an opportune time to retire the TFA sets. In short, you have a while to pick up the sets. Quote
MysteriousSir Posted March 14, 2016 Posted March 14, 2016 I'd really like to add a Venator-class Star Destroyer to my collection, but I'm not a huge fan of the official model and all the MOC versions I've seen have been either midi or huge. Has anyone ever seen or made a version that's closer to the piece count of the actual set? I'd like to bricklink one around that size, and I may just end up designing it myself. Of course, odds are I'll just get the original version if a cheap one pops up on eBay due to the higher cost of bricklinking, but if there was a good design around that size I might have to get the money. Quote
Lobot Posted March 14, 2016 Posted March 14, 2016 Hi MysteriousSir Most Venators tend to be in the 3-4,000 part region and I can't think of any myself in that range (apart from the official set!) but hopefully one of the other members may be able to point you in the right direction. For future reference there's a general Q&A thread pinned to the top of the forum. I'll merge this with it in a bit Quote
Danorak81 Posted March 15, 2016 Posted March 15, 2016 Hi guys, I have the recent 75094-Tydirium release. It's sitting on a shelf in the lounge and looks really cool. What I'd like to do is have the figures out on display, but not just stood on a length of Lego. I'd like to do similar to the Ghostbuster Ideas set: Thing is, I'd like to have something like the Ghostbusters logo, in the centre. Does anybody know of any specific Star Wars parts (printed or stickered) that could be used like the Ghostbusters Logo? My knowledge of sets isn't in-dpeth enough to know of anything off the top of my head! Any pointers appreciated! Dan Quote
Lobot Posted March 15, 2016 Posted March 15, 2016 Hi Danorak81, the only one that I can think of is the 'Death Star Plans' from the current Droid Escape Pod (part 3068bpb0947). According to Bricklink there's over 2,500 different printed tiles, so you might want to trawl through them (link) if you're looking for something in particular! For future reference there's a general Q&Q thread pinned to the top of the forum. I'll merge this with it in a bit Quote
Covi Posted March 15, 2016 Posted March 15, 2016 You could use the Rebel Star Wars logo which is part 3068bpb0476 which is fairly easy to get for a nice price. Quote
Junior Shark Posted March 15, 2016 Posted March 15, 2016 (edited) Here's one, but it's TFA (and you're displaying the Tydirium), so...: http://www.thebrickf...brick-revealed/ Other than that, you could probably find a big tile printed with the Rebel Alliance starbird symbol. Agent Kallus Posted March 16, 2016 Posted March 16, 2016 (edited) The parts have already been shown but the battle of hoth board game has some great ones. Anyway I want to build a stormtrooper army only small like 32ish anyway do you think it's better to get the rebels battle pack or wait for the rogue one one. Edited March 16, 2016 by AgentKallus of Hydra Quote
Junior Shark Posted March 16, 2016 Posted March 16, 2016 (edited) With the Rebels and new Battlefront BPs you know what you're getting. And you don't have to wait until next January (presumably). Waiting for the Rogue One BPs might not pay out- they'll probably have different variations of troopers, like Scarab and Shadowtroopers And of course, there's the old "Rebels Stormies vs. Movie Stormies" thing.
