Sisco Posted February 3, 2011 Posted February 3, 2011 Don't know about a protocol droid, but I did find this Astromech droid. R2-Q5, or R2-D5 in 6211. Quote
XimenaPaulina Posted February 3, 2011 Author Posted February 3, 2011 Does the black protocol droid in the Death Star Playset have a specific name? Was it even in the movies? I don't remember seeing any black protocol droid in the movies, and Wookieepedia doesn't have any entry of such appearing in the movies. Maybe that's why it was just labeled as 'black protocol droid' in the DS playset. If it had a specific name I see no reason why they wouldn't name it properly (like C-3PO and K3PO). Quote
Brickdoctor Posted February 3, 2011 Posted February 3, 2011 It's a black RA-7 protocol droid, but TLG used the head from the 3P0 series instead of molding a new head. Quote

Yeah RA-7s were extensively used in the DS, but it still has no connection whatsoever with the black protocol droid in the DS playset, which is clearly a 3P0 based on the head and torso print. I guess they just randomly put it in there together with the black astromech without any reference to any specific named droid (unlike R2-Q5). Quote

Well the torso of the RA-7 itself greatly resembles that of the 3P0, and there aren't many people who notice that kind of thing in the movies. I think TLG just didn't want to make a new mold, similar to what they did for the old TIE Pilot. Then they just gave it an anonymous name in case geeks like us came around and noticed the wrong head. Churchill Posted February 3, 2011 Posted February 3, 2011 Why I would have this one I don't know, but after seeing the picture, I realized somewhere around here is an old Kenner action figure of that droid..... Quote
XimenaPaulina Posted February 3, 2011 Author Posted February 3, 2011 Well the torso of the RA-7 itself greatly resembles that of the 3P0... Based on these images I don't see any similarity, as the RA-7 lacks the distinct circular thingy on the standard 3P0 protocol droid. But yeah, like you said these are minor things that only 'geeks like us' will bother to discuss. Quote
Fallenangel Posted February 4, 2011 Posted February 4, 2011 So the other day, I stumbled across this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZxmA_RVJWvs&hd=1 I can tell from the first few seconds that this is definitely not the '98 Special Edition. However, I am aware that there is a "bastardized" version of the film in which some, but not all, of the extra scenes and changes from the Special Edition are present. Unfortunately, the irony is that though I like the X-wing I own only the Special Editions of the movies, so I have not seen the original "unaltered" Death Star trench run in years. Can someone with the '04 versions verify whether this actually is the original? Quote
Brickdoctor Posted February 4, 2011 Posted February 4, 2011 (edited) I looked at the first 30 seconds (no longer 'cause it stopped downloading for some reason), and in a side by side comparison with the original theatrical release it looks to be identical, except it's in full screen format. The Legonater Posted February 5, 2011 Posted February 5, 2011 (edited) Yesterday I was in the city and found- for once- more than just the T-6 and Bounty Hunter ship. I had around fifty bucks on me, so- based on what was there- it was down to purchasing the Battle of Naboo with the Mando pack, or the Battle of Geonosis. I wound up going with the former because of it's larger selection. Do you think I made the right choice? Edited February 5, 2011 by The Legonater Quote

Thats a really tough call, I really don't like the battle of naboo, I think the speeder is ugly and who needs more droids if you already have the MTT? But The mando battle pack is cool, not for the models but the figs themselves. But with the Battle of Geonosis, it is terribly over-priced for what you get, so it's a real tough call. I would've went for the Battle of Geonosis as I hat the battle of naboo, then got a mando BP later. But thats just me. Quote
Dumbfire Posted February 5, 2011 Posted February 5, 2011 Mandalorian Pack isn't that great and you could always pick up the Battle of Naboo later since you know, its more of a Battlepack / Army Builder then a exceptional set even though its one of the best sets of the year. I would have gone with the Battle for Geonosis. On the other side, stores are open on monday again Quote

Mando pack, well, if you had the chance to get the clone one and picked the Mando instead then I don't think that was so good. Quote

Yeah, it's been a month and I still haven't seen the Clone BP- in fact, this is the first time I've seen BoG, BoN and the Mando BP. Quote
Dumbfire Posted February 5, 2011 Posted February 5, 2011 I'd have gotten 2 Naboo's. If that was possible, I don't know what price it was exactly. Quote
sok117 Posted February 6, 2011 Posted February 6, 2011 why does everyone like the battle of naboo so much? I mean, its my least favourite PT character, a bunch of Droids, and an ugly speeder. Why does everyone hold it with such high regard? Quote

Why does everyone hold it with such high regard? It may have something to do with the 8 B1s That's what it is for me at least, I can see how one might dislike it. there's also a fair amount of modding opportunity, plus 8 2x2 light bley double jumpers Quote

Why does everyone hold it with such high regard? Least fav PT character & lots of droids per dollar with a speeder with high modding potential is how I see it. And in my books, I'm looking at a bunch of CW sets and a failed OT wannabe in the rest of the wave. Quote

I guess this sums it up pretty well I've got another question for you guys I'm working on custom Republic Commando figures, if your familiar with the game, would you use orange or red to do the markings on Boss, on some of the screens I've found they look red, and on other they look orange, answers are what I'm looking for and would be appreciated! nevermind Edited February 6, 2011 by sok117 Quote

It really depends on what type of clones you specifically want to build an army of. If it's just an army of normal clones, the 8014 Clone Walker Battle Pack is the way to go. If it's only the clone minifigs that you're interested in, it's more practical to buy individual clone minifigs online as you could save on shipping cost and maximize your budget. The new 7913 Clone Trooper Battle isn't as effective as an army builder as 8014, since you only get 1 ARF, 1 Horn Company Trooper, and 2 Bomb Squad Troopers (which I highly doubt one really wants build an army of). It would still be more practical to buy individual figs if you plan to build an army of ARFs or Horn Company Troopers. With regards to your profile, you need to reach 10 posts first before you could view and edit your profile. Quote

As others have mentioned, bricklink is the way to go. And I would advise you to be more conscious of language conventions in the future (e. g. capitalize your 'I's and differentiate between 'your' and 'you're'), as this is an international forum and not everyone here is a native English speaker. This isn't YouTube/facebook/AIM/Myspace/Yahoo/flickr/an online chatroom. Edited February 6, 2011 by fallenangel327 Quote
DS2626 Posted February 7, 2011 Posted February 7, 2011 (edited) Thanks guys! I'll probably go for the older battle packs that have four plain clones,a vehicle(which I don't really like but a couple would be good for my army) and some accessories. I agree that the new BP is not that great as no one really wants an army of bomb specialists :D EDIT:Thanks again guys for you quick and detailed responses, I definitely made the right decision joining this forum.
