Ki-Adi-Mundi Posted May 5, 2011 Posted May 5, 2011 Like you said, minifigs make money. And Vader was near the Falcon while it was in Docking Bay 327, so as choices of antagonist minifigs for that set go, it's not a bad choice. Why TLG didn't just add another protagonist minifig is beyond me. *snip* Just as you said. Minifigs make money. Getting all the main protagonsists with just one set would reduce sales of other sets. TLG wishes us to open collections, don't they? Having some antagonist included does severely influence playbility within one set and Vader certainly makes for a good 'bad boy'. The minifig combination for the new Falcon seems to be kind of a compromise. I for one would have preferred more 'baddies to put up a fight' but a starter would love to have the main crew. I am fairly sure that such a person would try to either get the Tantive or Luke's speeder to complete the crew of main protagonists. Overall, i will be happy to finally get OT Vader who misses in my collection while Chewie and Han already have a bunch of twin-siblings. Btw., as a non-registered customer who ordered at S@H - will i get those VIP points or whatever stuff has been told next to the red brickling on the order page? Quote

If you didn't order while logged in with your LEGO Club Online account that's linked to your VIP card, unfortunately, no. I know back when they had the old stamp program, you could bring in a copy of your S@H invoice and they'd give you the stamps, but I'm not sure if they still do that for the VIP program. Quote

It was my first order at S@H and do not have any official Lego store around so the matter might be pretty futile then, anyway. I hoped for some goodie code or stuff instead. Thanks for the info, though. Quote
spurs Posted May 6, 2011 Posted May 6, 2011 Why does LEGO never make a Jedi packed set? That would make money wouldn't it? Quote
Brickdoctor Posted May 6, 2011 Posted May 6, 2011 Why does LEGO never make a Jedi packed set? That would make money wouldn't it? Not necessarily. People would probably only buy one of a set with so many named characters, and putting all the Jedi into one set would make fewer people want to buy other sets with Jedi in them. Lots of people would buy the set, for sure, but based on how many times they would do so and how that would affect other purchases, TLG could end up losing money. Quote

Brickdoctor Posted May 6, 2011 Posted May 6, 2011 I suppose, however wouldn't a Jedi Temple set be a real fans fave? Yes, and it could happen, but not jam packed with popular Jedi. It's just not a smart move for TLG, for the reasons I mentioned. TLG has to make money, and minifigs are one of the best ways to do that. Spread out the popular ones and they'll probably sell more sets. Quote

I mean a redisign of the creepy CW faces. They could really do with redoing Ashoka and possible give us a DS minifig. This could be the new model of figs???? Quote

What does that have to do with the the quote of my post you included? And what do you mean by 'design flaw'? That's a very vague term when you consider the many factors that make a good LEGO set. Brickdoctor Posted May 6, 2011 Posted May 6, 2011 (edited) Sorry I was disturbed I mean why is there sometimes a blip? Meaning... The closest definition of 'blip' that I can find to fit your sentence is "an unexpected, minor, and typically temporary deviation from a general trend", and if that's what you meant, that's still not very specific. And LEGO sets always follow specific guidelines based on the type of sets they are, so as whole sets I doubt that there are 'blips' very often. I suggest you read over the Site Guidelines and make an effort to post in good English. Edited May 6, 2011 by Brickdoctor Quote
Ki-Adi-Mundi Posted May 7, 2011 Posted May 7, 2011 This year's 'May the Forth be with you' event was good, indeed. What's the next date based special offer when can expect? Is there a specialized threat for all kinds of special offers or is it the one mentioned above? I'd like to plan ahead a bit with my budgets. Quote

Praiter Yed Posted May 10, 2011 Posted May 10, 2011 I'm trying to make a Speeder Bike and TLG don't make the parts I want in browns, so I decided to make the Hoth version. I assumed they would be exactly the same as the Endor speeders except white, but there are inconsistencies in the reference material that I've found. Admittedly the reference is not great - I've only managed to find various images of a model kit and an illustration from DK. Can't find much on wookipedia either... The model seems to have a white blanket or pack on the back whereas the illustration features a heating unit, the model also has sturdier pedals. I'm thinking the illustration is probably most accurate. Many people here have far superior SW/EU knowledge than yours truly - so I wondered if anyone knew either where I could find better reference images or just knew anything about these? Quote
XimenaPaulina Posted May 11, 2011 Author Posted May 11, 2011 I wondered if anyone knew either where I could find better reference images or just knew anything about these? Maybe fallenangel could provide images of the studio model, which is probably the best reference to base your MOC. Quote
Brickdoctor Posted May 11, 2011 Posted May 11, 2011 Out of curiosity, is one of the pieces you need that only comes in white the 1 x 1 plate with tooth? Because the day that comes out in brown I'm buying some for my speeder bike. Quote

The full-size prop: There does seem to exist an inconsistency in that while the scaled miniature sports a "pack" on the back (a feature which, I might add, was curiously omitted in The Essential Guide) the full-size prop does not. Technically, both would be screen-accurate, but I would go off the miniature since full-scale props are traditionally built smaller and have to accomodate real people (the same could be said for the T-47 and the X-wing). However, the illustration from the Incredible Cross-Sections does seem to be a variant, so I would go ahead and put in a heating unit. Hope this helps. By the way, that "model kit" is actually part of a Hasbro playset: I think we can all agree that Hasbro isn't exactly the most accurate source. Edited May 11, 2011 by fallenangel309 Quote

Danthebrick Posted May 12, 2011 Posted May 12, 2011 Just had a quick search round and couldn't find answer - is there a good technique for removing keyrings from chain? I was under the impression they disconnected easily but after a initial tug they don't seem to budge. I guess the alternative is using a small hacksaw so any suggestions welcome on the best way to remove and then fill to look reasonably good. Many thanks Danthebrick Quote

Many thanks Danthebrick The easiest way is to take a pair of needle-nose pliers and twist and bend the ring until it snaps off. However, for more playability you can take a pair of wire cutters, cut off the ring, slip off the head and hair/headgear, and cut the metal again just above the neck. Quote
