Ritz Brick Posted August 17, 2011 Posted August 17, 2011 How are the quality of the minifigures in the Starwars watches and clocks? I don't know about all of the watches except for the Luke Skywalker one and the Darth Maul one, they were both regular figures for me and came with the chrome hilts. Quote
Mr Man Posted August 17, 2011 Posted August 17, 2011 How are the quality of the minifigures in the Starwars watches and clocks? All the watches came with the normal same quality figs as in the normal sets. The Obi-Wan watch came with an exclusive fig, same quality just new. Quote
K-Nut Posted August 17, 2011 Posted August 17, 2011 I'm debating on whether getting the Republic Frigate or the Clone Turbo Tank. Can anyone give me a side by side comparison and/or tell me which one is better? Quote
Ki-Adi-Mundi Posted August 17, 2011 Posted August 17, 2011 I'm debating on whether getting the Republic Frigate or the Clone Turbo Tank. Can anyone give me a side by side comparison and/or tell me which one is better? Huh, that's a question only you can answer. If your budget allows for only one of both sets, i would advise to base your decision on the following aspects: - what would fit better into your collection: a starship or a ground vehicle? - what set of characters is of higher interest for you? Which chars do you already have? - which set is better designed and offers more bang for the buck - opportunity to MOC/display or whatever? If i were you, i would go for the Frigate. Well designed and playable at the same time. This is the same ship like in TPM (EP I), which significantly increases value of the set. Only the colour scheme and enhanced weaponry is different. It is nice for display and unlike it's predecessor you have some interior places to do something with. The Turbo Tank has very bad designed (weak and oddly looking) axles and is of little use outside the animated series. It has, like the Frigate however, some nice minifigs included. Really a question of taste, i guess. Well, i have a question myself: - Are there any regular (so to speak: annual) sales by S@H, TRU and other retrailers to be expected anytime soon? Quote

Brickdoctor Posted August 18, 2011 Posted August 18, 2011 I think this question would most appropriately belong here. Somewhere in this thread's history, I remember KDM saying it was okay for Star Wars fans to ask which Star Wars set they should buy here. Quote

If Comrade Brickdoctor says it, it must be right. In that case... 8089: 7964: 8089 has better shaping, but 7964 is solid and swooshable. My vote goes to the latter. Quote
Brickdoctor Posted August 18, 2011 Posted August 18, 2011 If Comrade Brickdoctor says it, it must be right. Unless it concerns a little-known fact about the studio models, like the stands of the Tantive IV*. *Trapezoidal shape of the radiator grille of the T-47 excepted. Quote
Ceroknight Posted August 18, 2011 Posted August 18, 2011 I think I was the first to ask which set I should get on this topic..not that I listened... However I agree with fallenangel and I'd get 7964 Quote

Professor Jones Posted August 18, 2011 Posted August 18, 2011 Would you recommend the visual dictionary and/or the character encyclopedia ? I don't know what to expect from these books. If they only are glorified catalogs I'll pass, but if they provide some insight about how the sets are designed and interesting anecdotes, then I'll buy them. Quote
Ritz Brick Posted August 18, 2011 Posted August 18, 2011 I just picked up the new Naboo Starfighter and Mace Windu's Jedi Starfighter. In my version of MWJSF I never got the separate bag that's supossed to contain the spare Battle Droid Arm and a blaster. In KimT's review of the set it shows them included. Has anyone else had this? Also with the Naboo Starfighter, does the Naboo Pilot not fit in the cockpit? It seems like his helmet is keeping the screen from closing all the way. Quote

I would get both, I don't own the encyclopedia, but I know I was surprised how much interesting stuff was in the visual dictionary and I am expecting the same with the new one And you get exclusive ceremonial Luke and Han! K-Nut Posted August 18, 2011 Posted August 18, 2011 (edited) I have finally designed to get the frigate. I would get the tank but to me that wheel design is . Besides, I need the Eeth Koth minifig! EDIT: Is the encyclopedia out? EDIT: Maybe my target is the only one who had it but All Star Wars is on sale! They were sold out of the Frigate and Falcon, though. ButterMelon Posted August 20, 2011 Posted August 20, 2011 The frigate is basically a rehash of 7665 Republic cruiser in more utilitarian colors. I don't have the frigate yet, but I do have 8089 Turbo Tank and the 7665 Republic cruiser. As far as builds go, both were very enjoyable (about 4.5 hours each). I would say that the part variety for MOC building is probably a little better in the turbo tank. I don't find myself using large wedge plates for much of anything, and the frigate has a lot of them. The turbo tank on the other hand is pretty short on bricks and slopes of any kind. And the frigate has the large cylinders/cones and macaroni bricks. Kind of funny, but if you used the large wheels of the turbo tank for engines, with a few more wedge plates you could build a pretty close approximation of the frigate. But you couldn't build the tank from the frigate part kit. The tank will probably dissapear from shelves in the next 6 to 8 months. I think I would buy the tank, and then try to buy the frigate later. Quote

While i think that the tank will get sold out earlier - i simply cannot believe that it sells enough to get a second production run, what might quite likely be different with the Frigate - i guess that you are right that MOCs come to mind with the tank at hand. If i had it, this would be the first set to be ripped apart for spare parts. I wouldn't do that with well designed sets. Quote
r74 Posted August 26, 2011 Posted August 26, 2011 Does anyone know how long the lego Deathstar will be available from the lego website, i am thinking getting this set for my little boy for christmas and price is cheaper than ebay, says back orders being taken expect delivery sept 20th, does this mean this set is coming to an end and is going to be harder to get or is it they just cant keep up with demand? I am tempted to order one now but do the lego website ever have any offers nearer christmas as even 10% disc will save you over £27. Quote

Lego is showing available today so bit the bullet and paid £274.99, it can only go up in price as it seems its over the usual 2 years a set runs for. Quote
Kaitan Posted August 29, 2011 Posted August 29, 2011 At the risk of betraying my next project, does anyone have any decent pictures of the studio model of the twin pod cloud car? All the ones I've found so far are of the hasbro remakes or people's own models. Many thanks! Kaitan Quote

Brickadeer Posted August 30, 2011 Posted August 30, 2011 Hi, I just realized that some of the heads of my clone troopers have hollow studs while others don't. Bricklink doesn't distinguish between both parts, so I wonder if anyone has information on what sets/figs where produces with a hollow stud head and which were not. Thanks :) Quote
Clone OPatra Posted August 30, 2011 Posted August 30, 2011 I don't think there is anyway to know. I've seen reviews of the most recent Clone battlepack where some of the heads are one way and others are the other way. There is no way of tracking it. Quote
distortme Posted August 31, 2011 Posted August 31, 2011 I'm building a MOC [in my head at the moment :)] that has Jabba in it, and I don't have either the Palace or the Sail Barge yet and I want a bit of an idea of how big he is for scale. Can any one provide me with a basic size of height, depth and width in bricks so I can create a basic blob to add in the MOC as a placeholder? Or if you're feeling really creative, a super-sweet basic brick based model that I can use that adheres to the basic dimensions :) Coz if you don't I will once I have dimensions. Thanks in advance!
