Sir_Basil_Ashton Posted March 11, 2012 Posted March 11, 2012 Hi, I have a question about this part from set 7676. I recently bought them via Bricklink labeled as new. When I hold them against the light, the material looks, well, "pigmented", as if the material contains a lot of small dots or very small bubbles. Is that normal? I just inspected that piece out of the family collection and the ones we have don't seem to have small dots or bubbles. Are the bubbles/dots throughout the whole piece or just over where it's printed? Quote

Are the bubbles/dots throughout the whole piece or just over where it's printed? Thank you. They are very small, but everywhere. More precisely, they are part of the surface of the inner side of the canopy. Their concentration seems to rise from the edge to the center of the inner side of the canopy. I can feel them when I move a finger over the surface. To seem them clearly, I have to hold the canopy against a source of light, otherwise they are hardly recognizeable. I have some windows that have scratches on them, and it is similar to what you are describing. Edited March 11, 2012 by LEGOman273 Quote

On Bricklink, there is a close shot of the canopy from set 7163. If you look closely, it seems to suffer from the problem I described here; you can see a lot of reflections caused by "dots", that is irregularities of the surface. It is probably due to air getting into the plastic when it was being moulded. I can post a pic of an air-filled Lightsaber blade for comparison if you want. Quote

These bubbles are larger though and in the plastic. Quote

rakky Posted March 12, 2012 Posted March 12, 2012 Does anyone know of anyone who has made their own versions of the skiff guards fro ROFTJ? I am making them at the moment (21 to make, including sale barge guards) and wanted to see what other people have come up with to see if mine are as accurate. I have already ordered lots of stuff from bricklink so im hoping i don't see anything that will make me think thats much better than my ideas, but at the same time it would be interesting for me to see what i could improve. Thanks. Quote
moop Posted March 12, 2012 Posted March 12, 2012 (edited) So, I recently got a huge lot of Lego pieces. I noticed that there were quite a few of this piece in the lot. Does anyone know the name of it or maybe what sets besides the Death Star that it may be from? http://www.pophate.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/03/Screen-Shot-2012-03-11-at-8.24.26-PM.png I guess I can't post images so here's the link to the image Edited March 12, 2012 by moop Quote

Thanks. I haven't made any Skiff Guards, but I do know of some Minifig pieces that would be useful. I would suggest getting a few Turk Falso Minifigs, plus some Turk Falso head pieces. A few Shahan Alama 'Figs, and heads. If you can wait that long; get some of the new Gammorean Guards, and some Kithabas + Kithaba-heads. Also, some Lando-in-Skiff-Guard-Disguise 'Figs (old or new) would be useful too. As for clothes; Shahan Alama's torso is good (just change out the gold arm), as is Kithaba's and Lando-Guard's. Outside of SW; PQ's Jake Raines has a good torso piece, though it does have some yellow at the top. One Guard (a human) had no shirt on, so the shirtless torso would work for him. Legs are easy, as most pirates (and Skiff Guards) had dark red, dark blue, dark green, tan, dark tan, or sand green legs. Headgear is also easy; bandana pieces work well and, as many Guards didn't wear hats, some need no headgear. In addition, take into consideration that not all of Jabba's Skiff Guards were aliens; some were human. Also, check Wookipedia and here (screenshots) for inspiration. I hope that this helps. Quote
rakky Posted March 12, 2012 Posted March 12, 2012 Thanks Legoman, that screencap page is really useful as I have only been uising a site called skiffguiards for my info beforehand, there are some better stills on this site. I will be buying multiples of the new skiff i think, as well as maybe 2 jabbas palaces for the gamorrean and others. Thanks for the in depth answer dude, i ordered some of those heads this morning :) Quote

rakky Posted March 12, 2012 Posted March 12, 2012 Cheers will do, the only parts that are worrying me are some of the helmets and the Niktu guards faces but I will get round it. :) Quote

A modified Uruk-Hai helmet could work for "Unidentified Mercenary Pilot". More later. Quote
rakky Posted March 12, 2012 Posted March 12, 2012 cheers dude, I totally forgot about LOTR lego pieces, when do the summer sets normally come out anyhow? Quote
LEGOman273 Posted March 12, 2012 Posted March 12, 2012 (edited) cheers dude, I totally forgot about LOTR lego pieces, when do the summer sets normally come out anyhow? Exact release date is not sure, but sometime around June/July. TrU gets sets early, so if you can handle the markup, you can get the sets around June. Speaking of LotR, the goblin and orc heads could be useful. Perhaps some of the torsos, too. Edited March 12, 2012 by LEGOman273 Quote

LEGOman273 Posted March 12, 2012 Posted March 12, 2012 Would someone post a pic of Commander Fox with the new dark red visor, please? Quote
StoutFiles Posted March 12, 2012 Posted March 12, 2012 Shouldn't it be "always in motion the future is"? Nope. In the OT Yoda doesn't rearrange words every time he talks. They really ham it up in the PT. Quote
